      Thanks so much Josh for your kind comment. Things have been quiet on the channel while I got myself adjusted over here in California but once I get the small matter of the Canyons 100k out of the way this weekend you should start to see much more regular postings from me. Fun times ahead.

    Fantastic video and very impressive effort in the adversity. I've pinched the one foot in front of the other tune!

      Thanks Richard, that was an interesting day out alright. You’re very welcome to snaffle the tune, it’s always nice when you find one that seems to fit the scene well 👍

      Thanks Emlyn, I had to dig deep but without it I wouldn’t have been able, yesterday, to put my name in for the Western States 100 lottery. We never know where the road leads….

      Thank you. I'm over in Chamonix at the moment, not running myself but drawing inspiration from all the great people that have come together in celebration of trail running. Hopefully I can cobble a good video together out of the footage I have been taking.

      @@filmmytrailrun I look forward to seeing it dude. Do you have any recommendations on foot ware for running ? I've spoken to a few people in store and I get mixed advice. Best to ask an expert like yourself. I run more on roads and am currently training for an Ironman 70.3. So not big running distance but after that I'll try out for my first ultra.

      @@wallykav1516 thanks for the compliment. For straight up road running I have been an Asics Cumulus man for years. I have occasionally tried other models like the Nimbis and other brands like Nike but I always returned to the Cumulus. When you put your foot into the right shoe it should feel right. Size is so important too though and that is why I would not buy my shoes online. Not too tight and not too loose. Many brands these days do both a standard and wide shoe. I tried on both before The Cape Wrath and went with the wide fit Hoka Speedgoat. While the grip wasn’t right for the event, the shoe size and fit was ideal. I hope that helps and best of luck in your running endeavors 💪🏃🏻‍♂️

    Amazing effort mate and all despite the stomach going and then the watch, so demotivating not being able to see your time and distance on such long races. Awesome resiliance and time actually all things considered. Bravo from a fellow Irish Runner in Australia

      Thanks Steve, yeah I plan to avoid the watch issue in future…the stomach I’m not so sure about. I still need to work on that piece of the trail running puzzle. I hope you’re hitting some good trails down under and who knows I might meet you at an event some day 👍

    Great watch, mega race, well done that man 👍 Felt for ya hitting the 'stomach' wall, been there, sure is one way of making a tough race even tougher!! Oh and loved the wee intro ⏰ 👌

      Ha ha, thanks Paul. Yeah, you can be as well prepared as you like and still the demons can come calling. Hopefully we learn the lessons and move on. And thanks also, the intro was a 3.30am last minute decision but I think it worked out quite well.

    Time to get a new watch me feels! Corus Apex lasts easily 24 hours WITH navigation and won't break the bank. Will save you so much heart ache going the wrong way and relying on those markers when your tired. Well done for getting it done though mate a great achievement under 22 hours congrats.

      Thanks again Phil, yeah, the watch issue is right up there on the top of the lessons learned list. Hopefully I will get some time this weekend to put that video together 👍

    Great work Dave. I know you were hoping for under 20 hours, but in that weather over that course, honestly under 22 is superb. Great to meet you at the end. Hopefully we will bump into each other in Chamonix next week.

      Thanks Stephen, you were a complete gentleman at the finish line…and you pulled a monster shift of your own. Very happy with the finish in the end but the NDW100 thought me a few lessons that I think have finally sunk in. The very best of luck in the TDS. I won’t be there at the start but hopefully I can capture some B-roll for you WHEN you cross that finish line.

      Thanks David. This race has remained longer in my head than most so before I do anymore videos I am going to circle back and do a “Final Thoughts” video because I definitely learned a lot from that whole experience. Thanks again for subscribing. Some good stuff to come.

    Well done Dave. ;-) Considering your issues with food that was some going. It can't have been easy to keep going when you had very little nutrition. I had comtemplated using tailwind but in the end it was too close to the race itself. It was great re-running parts of the race again. Enjoy Chamonix and see you somewhere in Kerry. :-)

    Great video, I like it. Music is used with spare, there is the full story of your race and the video duration is in synch with the race progress. Other similar videos are sometime unbalanced with a long session at the beginning, at the aid station or at the end. If something goes wrong, like in your case, usually the Go-Pro stay turned off. Well done!

    • @filmmytrailrun
      @filmmytrailrun  2 года назад

      Thank you so much. Yes, rest assured, I will always show the full story...even if it does mean you have to look at me getting sick on the side of the trail.

  • @ewansrunningvlog8747

    Well done! That was a hell of a journey, unfortunate you had stomach issues, I assume that wasn’t an issue for you during CRU? I’ve not started with tailwind yet, typically use water, gels and bars. I assumed I’d need to migrate to tailwind as I ramp up the distance beyond 50km. Sounds like there are mixed views on the tailwind. Do think temperature is a factor re the types of nutrition we should consume during runs?

    • @filmmytrailrun
      @filmmytrailrun  2 года назад +1

      Hey Ewan, yeah, temperature is known be a factor in stomach issues during ultras. Generally speaking people don't tend to suffer stomach issues up to 50K. You should check out Jason Koops podcast "The KoopCast". He offers very sound advice based on science. If you flick through the episodes you will find a few in there specifically covering the topic of nutrition. I will probably do a lessons learned video as well because, as always, I came away from this race with some valuable nuggets.

    The most I've ran is 50k but am considering this 100km for 2023 as a step-up. Sjould I attempt in one day or would a 2-day be more sensible?

    • @filmmytrailrun
      @filmmytrailrun  2 года назад

      Hey Dave, first important point to note is that this 100 miles, not 100k. That said, if you have already ran a 50k then, with consistent training, I have no doubt you would be able for the NDW100. I’m not sure what you mean when you ask whether you should do it in one day or two days. The race is single stage with a 30 hour cut off. Perhaps you are talking about doing it solo as a recce in which case I would break it up into at least 4 days.

    • @markcameron3
      @markcameron3 2 года назад +1

      @@filmmytrailrun it's quite a posh area and the posh people didn't like getting their shoes muddy so topped it with sand apparently 🤣
