- Today we talk about EVEN MORE Genesis games that ringle my dingle, a little bit more than most games do, these are rough, and in my opinion, there are FAR better games on the Genesis. These aren't the worst, but they certainly weren't fun to me in the slightest.

Golden axe is definitely a top genesis game.

That'd be putting it nicely... I think this RUclipsr is just trying to be an edgelord at this point considering Golden Axe consistently shows up in top 20 lists.
No, I'm not an edgelord, I just rate games based on how I feel about them, for me the jank didn't really quantify a pleasurable experience, like it did for like...Hydlide or Jaws on the NES.
@@Fortefyre It never felt janky to me or to anyone i played it with, they thought it was a fun game, especially when riding the dragons. Every game has its critic's, but overall it's considered a top genesis game.
Stopped the video at Altered Beast because it's easily one of the best arcade ports still today.
I'll make sure to put hot takes at the end of the video next time :P
The Genesis version also plays BETTER than the Arcade original.
Golden axe on this list, i don't know about that, its considered a great port by most genesis fans, its one of my favorite games, beat it with every character on every mode, and we had fun with the 2 player mode. Definitely a top 100 genesis game.

Stopped at road rash 2, it's one of the best racing games on the megadrive
It is a wonderful game until the final set of races, and to me that's incredibly frustrating.
6:27 Turn zoom off in the options menu. NFL 94 and CFNC are the best 16-bit football games ever.

I respect that a lot of people enjoyed Golden Axe but I have to agree. In my opinion it played slow, stiff, clunky, and shallow which really sucked out a lot of the fun for me. It was an early title and it shows. Altered Beast for the Genesis on the other hand is a guilty pleasure for me. It is to a lesser degree than Golden Axe slow, stiff, clunky and shallow but it looks great and being 2D rather than isometric like Golden Axe helps it a lot. My Genesis came with Sonic 1 and a mail away coupon for Sonic 2. Since it had been the previous pack in game Altered Beast was only $15 at my local Toys R Us and was the first game I bought for myself. For that price I had a lot of fun playing it.

Air Diver is still one of the cheap games I need for my collection, but I keep avoiding it because I know it will be bad. This helps confirm it.
I know Altered Beats isn't great, but it's one of the games we had as a kid so I have a soft spot for it. At least it's short and an easy beat.
I wanted Primal Rage to be better. Who wouldn't want to fight as dinosaurs?
I love the way James Buster Douglas looks, but yeah, not great gameplay.
I do like Golden Axe, but it's tough. I wish you could fight better other than relying on dash attacks or jump attacks.
I wanted to like Air Diver, but the cockpit...*sigh*
P.S. months later I am still laughing at your "I'd rather deep throat a curling Iron" comment in a previous video. That was an instant classic. "Getting an IRS audit in the bathtub with a toaster" was very good but not quite at the same level. 😁😁

My favorite thing in Tony Larussa baseball was u could warm up a pitcher, but if u forgot about him, when u checked in on him, he'd be struggling to breathe and sweating lol u couldn't use him

Altered Beast was alright for the time it was released. It was cool looking and we didn't know any better back then. Golden Axe was my favorite Sega game from that period. It still holds up for me today, even though its primitive. Also the Spider Man game from 1991 was fun too.
Golden Axe on this list is a stretch, it's considered a great port by many genesis fans. One of my personal favorites, beat it with every character on all difficulties.

I love Road Rash 2, one of my favorite Genesis games period. But DAMN is it difficult. So I can understand people being frustrated with it. Rented it all the time as a kid though, and got pretty good at it.
It's the leap to uncontrollable for me lol. The first 4 levels are awesome.
Altared Beast (?)....the games was near a perfect arcade port and was also a great display of early 16-bit capabilities. It was a fun and action loaded game, just short.
Road Rash II (?)... it was a entertaining game like its prequel that was also criticaly praised and sold well.
Golden Axe (?)... Oh you commited a cardinal "Sega sin" here my friend. This is a beloved franchise and are very fun games to play at any point.
I really could not grasp these three to be "avoidble games" when they are often among the recommended games lists (!) You must have had a bad day when played these 🤔

The best test for these old games is if a modern kid likes them. my baby sister and brothers absolutely loved golden axe, especially when riding the dragons and blowing flames.

I disagree with Primal Rage, not only do i still primal Rage to this day but the genesis/32x versions are actually pretty decent conversions with their own neat features, for instance Talon's sprint acts as special move and lets you cancel out of the ending lag of every move putting you back in neutral this is specially important for Talon'¥ heavy attacks like his down 3+4 which will leave you vulnerable if blocked due to it's a huge recovery time and you can only cancel it into a special move.
You can combo into Blizzard's ice geyser if you land an air attack that causes your opponent to be knocked back in an arch to the front of you.
I'm not a real technical person when it comes to fighters. Are there any other fighting games you suggest on the Genesis?
@@Fortefyre i honestly did not play a ton of fighting games on the genesis i only got really deep into fighting games much later when i decided to learn primal rage and was able to translate most of the basic stuff i learned playing PR to all the others. I'd recommend Eternal Champions and Street fighter II champions edition is pretty solid, they added it recently to the Switch's NSO.

Buster Douglas Boxing is not the best but not the worst, in my opinion. I did manage to beat it. Final Blow, on the other hand, is freaking impossible for me lol.

Altered Beast at the arcades and on Sega Genesis was decent for the time.
Besides, if you think the Genesis version is bad, then you have to remember the Master System port.

Really can't agree with you on Golden Axe for the Sega Genesis. The best out of all the games you mentioned here. A strong hitter for the system.
Besides, the Pyron color hack makes the Sega Genesis version look even better; not that will change your mind on the Sega Genesis release.
Might have to check that out, I didn't like Golden Axe at all.
Primal Rage on the Genesis was the Arcade port that had me believing that Arcade games *COULD* be porter to home systems and be amazing. Primal Rage on the SNES is completely unplayable and slow and awful. I don't 100% share the option on Golden Axe and Road Rash either, but Primal Rage I take offense to.

Never cared for golden axe or altered beast. We were mortal kombat and street fighter household. Garfield was my favorite game on the Genesis and I did beat it, one of the few I was able to back then. But it gets a ton of hate
Me neither. You'll have loyalists showing up in comments talking about both of them being great and all, and you know, good for them, that's their memory, I can never take it away from them. I'm sure there are some games they don't like I love lol. How was Garfield? I never messed with it.
Being a big SNES fan,I really didn't play many Genesis games....so most of these games I've never heard of besides Altered Beast and Golden Axe. But this was an entertaining video.

Nice video, well presented and written, but some of these opinions seem like just bait at the moment.
I’m going to guess you are young, and didn’t play these when they actually came out, as there is a ton of odd context you have. I always thought altered beast was crap, hated the arcade game too 😅. No way the mega drive port is crap though, basically removed some small graphics scaling and added parallax scrolling. Unless you had the footage side by side, it was very close to the arcade, especially compared to the master system and NES arcade ports of the time.
Sega’s arcade ports of the time were very good on the 16bit system. They were a generational leap compared the 8bit competing consoles on launch and the 16bit home computers.
Later games had bigger rom cartridges so looked better, and the landscape is different now, and some games aged different.
Loved the Korean references, I was stationed as a Hogwon teacher in Busan back in the twilight years of the PS2 era😂
I mean, I'm 32, but I definitely was more of a child of the late 90s. We had a genesis, but only for a few years, those years are blurry in comparison to my N64/PS2 eras. Busan...I remember putting my feet there, then I started teleporting around once the Soju towers came out haha
@@Fortefyre I’m a little over ten years older than you, and some of the golden Axe defenders probably come from an experience of seeing what at the time felt like an arcade perfect port of the game. I personally think it aged better than most of the other pre sonic Genesis games. Also we were getting our news from magazines and games just weren’t as readily available. Even in the late 90s would have PlayStation games that looked a lot better than launch, and arcades, PCs with 3d graphics card looked the business. So at that point if you playing a 16bit game, it’s either for charming graphics or gameplay. That extra layer

Some of these games that you’re saying people should avoid are considered co Classics and obviously have their fans I’m saying golden axe is one to be avoided is blasphemy as a Sega fan, it’s like saying avoid playing the Sonic or Mario games and Altered Beast doesn’t deserve to be on this list, it’s not that bad, some of your list is controversial lol anyway great video.

With 75% of the screen filled up with the cockpit, the frame rate for Air Diver is STILL ass!
I thought that was just me lol.
@@Fortefyre There’s a similar game on the SuperGrafx called Battle Ace, and the frame rate is much better and so are the controls. The graphics aren’t bad, either.
Altered beast, road rash and golden axe prob in my top 10 genesis games
I'm not a fan of road rash due to the frame rate, but golden axe shouldn't be on this list.
Road Rash's frame rate kills the end game, and it's a shame!

Golden Axe? If you don't like the game thats fine, but its a fan favorite and shouldn't be on a list of genesis games to avoid, most people will find that bogus.

yeah bro, you must suck at fatal fury. ff2 on the genesis is the only home port of ff2 with a functioning combo system. it doesn't play like the arcade game. the fatal fury series won't have a functioning combo system until fatal fury special. this game is strange and fast and really poorly balanced like those crazy sailor moon fighters on the super famicom. its a fighting game gem.
whoa, you hate golden axe, too...for being too 'clunky'? oh no, an 80s beat' em up feels clunky. you might as well say you hate double dragon and turtles in time while you're at it. they're all very rudimentary beat' em ups that play practically the same.
I'm dreadful at Fatal Fury lmao. I'm decent at the arcade versions, I've only played up to Fatarl Fury Special though, I'm hoping to whip out the neo geo cd soon though! Thank you for your honesty, and I'm glad these games are fun to you!
@@Fortefyre ff2 on the genny actually plays like a modern fighter where you can chain together normals to specials to supers. its meant to be played with the turbo speed turned on. almost every character has infinite combos.

Primal Rage is garbage on EVERY platform.
I can't stand it lol. I was lucky enough to check out Primal Rage 2 at Galloping Ghost Arcade though, it was a little bit better.
I have to disagree, i still play Primal Rage, is still one of my favourite fighters, learn to play it, it's tough to learn but insanely fun to play after properly learned. I wouldn't have made a whole video about it on my channel if i didn't like it 😂
@@raptros The controls were unique for the sake of being unique. But they’re not intuitive. This game is a pain in the ass to learn. While a one-on-one fighting game with dinosaurs is a cool concept, the execution left a lot to be desired and cut out a lot of consumers with its convoluted control scheme.
