- I took this butcher's knife from my junkyard but i don't exactly know the name of this kind of butcher's knife anyways this old and rusty knife found me something new to restore so i decided to restore it.
I used patch tool in photoshop for thumbnail to show it more rusty.
By the way this butcher knife or cleaver looks like a pirate's sword :D so i found it something interesting to restore. Anyways i did restoration just for fun because the effort and time, i put on this restoration is much worthy and we even can buy such a new cleaver for less amount. So guyz watch the video just for satisfaction and for FUN i am deeply thankful to all of you who gives a thumbs up and appreciates us in comment box because your appreciation encourages us to make something new. Ancient Meat Cleaver Restoration
I made the Brass handle for this cleaver and that was heavy but not too much i think brass handle would work good. As i said i just made this restoration video for fun so i think the brass handle perfectly suits on this cleaver and i like the brass shine as well.
Thanks a lot for watching, I hope you liked the video!

Brass is not easy to cast as like the aluminium but brass needs alot of temperature to melt down we can use our home made furnaces for melting brass. IF you to make your own furnace you can see our another project video about how to make metal melting furnace:

o. Make a simple Metal Foundry Using Fire Bricks.

Brass Almost melts at 900°C to 940°C.Using your Homemade Furnace. While melting brass wear safety masks to avoid zinc fumes. Also Remember to wear other SAFETY stuff during casting Metal because safety is first priority.
It was totally rusted so i removed the rust with the help of DILUTE sulphuric acid. Dilution was compulsory for reaction with iron.
Remember that use the acid with complete safety and having complete information because ACIDS are not playing liquids MUST wear safety or rubber gloves and keep outside all the procedure while you are using the acid because alot of gases fumes releases while the reaction takes place.

metal handles are good for real butcher knives, as it allows you to sterilize them via boiling water
He does them because he is lazy, its easier to cast a crap handle then to take time shapping one with wood.
Osark The Goat no they don't . You know that make this shit called bleach?

can someone explain to me how exactly the handle was made? does the brass melt and replace/take the place of the styrofoam??
Okay, at least the Blade runs through the handle.
Here are the things I don't like about the Cleaver.
1. The Handle is Brass
2. It looks to Tacky(like 6ix9ine's hair)
3. Looks WAY to metallic.

The brass handle looks good , I don’t know why people keep complaining
Because it doesn't, to many of us. On top of that, it sort of destroys the purpose of a knife because a brass-plated handle will have atrocious balance.
The reason why people generally refrain from using metal handles in tools is because they tend to really hurt your hand. They transfer every little vibration and shock straight to your hand. Wooden and plastic handles will cushion the blow a bit more.
It looks nice, it’s just he puts brass on literally every project
I agree.
I enjoy watching this channel. I get ideas for projects. I am already recovering camp and landscaping tool to breath new life into. I, at first, thought this might be a gardeners Billhook for hedge cutting/trimming. If the short curved edge were functional the handle would also get cold in the winter, cramping the hand. Polished metal handles look nice on show pieces/wall hangers.
That is a billhook not a cleaver. It is an old hedge and tree trimming tool.
LMAO sharpened the wrong side!
It's so thick there tho
@@MichaelQuigley-fy5rc Actually most are sharpened on both sides...At least any that I've worked with. LoL.
Would still make one nice hog cleaner though. XD
I have seen videos of people in Asia using knives similar to this though, for cutting fish and such....always thought it was a weird knife for the job though.
I believe that originally it had a long wooden handle, maybe even as long as a meter. Also while I'm no expert, the relative uniformity of the rust seems to indicate a modern steel blade, probably no more than fifty years old. And one more thing, even if you never use it again, make a grinding jig so that you get nice clean lines.
@@jaxsteel2680 I think you're right, it would explain why the holes for the pins are so off center. However, I think someone else sought to turn it into a makeshift cleaver. Regardless of it's history, the lack of a secondary bevel leads me to believe it wasn't meant to be a cleaver.
Edge was on the "wrong side" when he pulled from junk pile. Looks like a billhook or sling blade, but I think it was something else. Or a version I haven't seen. Certainly wasn't a meat cleaver though.
It looks like a bush axe
@@claytonandrews5870 that's what Im thinking pretty sure it's and older style brush axe I seen one with a blade like it on Wrangler stars channel.
Stone Boyd - I used to use a brush axe with a blade like that to clear underbrush on our property in Tennessee. Looks the same to me, but I never paid attention to the details.
Don't you think it would have been better to have done all the work on the blade with the dremel and the angle grinder BEFORE you went and caste the handle????
Agreed.

Restoration:-
- the act of restoring.
- a return of something to a former, original, normal, or unimpaired condition.
I agree the metal handles look nice but it is not a restoration. Random Hands has created a new butcher's knife different from the original. The original maker took a piece of steel and created a knife. If he/she was a crafts-person then the knife could be a work of art but it is unlikely in this case. RH has taken the same piece of steel and made a different knife out of it. He did not restore the original knife. He may as well have made an axe out of it or a picture frame. What he created was beautiful but it wasn't a restoration.
Old Fart can’t you just appreciate his hard work?
I agree
This sounds boring, but I'd really like to see the bucket be restored. I've never seen anything bucket-esk be restored. Hopefully it'll be a bit easier than this tho.

While I applaud your creativity...you did ruin that blade. Turning a billhook into a big cleaver is a interesting idea. Keep it up.
If it's a Bilhook, why is the edge on the opposite side of where it would be on a Bilhook? The bit that extent from the handle is completely flat with no bevel. And handle position is like no other Bilhook I've seen on the internet.
@@Masterfighterx good point. Hadn't noticed the edge. I stand corrected. Still, the blade is ruined but a cool project either way.
While I would've gone for a wooden handle, the handling process didn't completely ruin the whole blade, the sand kept it all from overheating. Dunno if the overheat went all the way to the heel edge though.

I would recommend to use a clay or sand mixture instead of the dirt like mixture you are using for the making of the handle. Clay and sand is alot more compact than dirt is and you use less of it.
Please provide an example of the final results using your method. A good example may help all of us learn

If it’s a bill hook like all are saying, why is the blade bevel on the wrong side? Seems like it was only sharpened on the tip before. And the handle seems to be coming out of the wrong side, like if it was a regular billhook it would be 2 inches lower from where it currently sticks out.
