- Persona 5's Joker is too perfect at times. So what if we did the entire game with only level 1 social stats? Is it possible to beat the game without levelling up a single social stat while playing on the hardest difficulty? Well, let's find out! I tried this the first time I played, since Morgana was my healer and Ryuji was my primary physical attacker. When Kamoshida noticed her, I learned my lesson.
and ryuji almost always works because Kamoshida doesn’t care for him whatsoever

For taking the clown, I’m pretty sure no matter what Kamoshida always notices Ann. Sending Ryuji even with poor damage would probably work

At first I thought this challenge run couldn't turn out to be too difficult. Then I remembered that crafting gives you proficiency points. And that certain confidants require a certain level of a specific social stat. Now, that's gonna be entertaining!
I'm going to binge this. You did a good job summarizing, there's so much to this game it's so long. It's interesting to see how much content you're locked out of from not raising social stats! I imagine it's going to snowball badly later on.

A little tip for those facing Kamoshida on Merciless: use Rakunda to lower his defense and Tarunda to lower his attack, the lowered defense is crucial and allows you to actually do enough damage to get the crown. I had to get crafty and fused Pyro Jack w/Pixie to get Bicorn then Bicorn and Pixie to get Slime w/Rakunda and Tarunda.
That is what I did: I explicitly used Joker for debuffing Kamoshida, getting shots in if I could, meanwhile Ann and Ryuji laid on the damage. EDIT: I even took a chance and used Tarukaja on Ann w/ Ryuji and thankfully I still managed to do enough damage to get the crown.
So basically, live like Akihiko. No friends, no hobbies, only protein.

Also, it's good that Insta-Kill (Ryuji 7) got patched in Royal, in the first game, it awarded no exp, money or persona. meaning that Rank 7 was a heavy debuff.
It actually gave you the Persona, but no XP for it if you already owned it

ive seen a playthrough where someone got past yaldabaoth (3rd semester was literally impossible with the ruleset they had in place) by doing nothing so i sadly already know the outcome of this challenge but it will still be fun to watch the "how"

It's Royal exclusive. In the Vanilla version, it was a records store, though the image used for the Sports Store was unsused in Vanilla.

So, shouldn't you already technically fail to unlock the third semester, as Akechis confidant path won't level up?
I'd still watch the rest of the run even if you just get the vanilla ending but I was wondering if this is something you considered.
Only Maruki's confidant is required to unlock the third semester. Maxing out Akechi and Kasumi just extends their storylines, but are not required to unlock the third semester.

This looks like the much easier version of the "slacker" challenge i made for myself...
It has the same limitations on social stats, but i also had to use menus as little as possible, never fuse personas unless i'm forced to, and never advance social links, unless needed for the true ending...
In short, i had to do the absolute minimum amount of things i could, and use as little of the mechanics the game gave me! I also had to beat the game at as low a level i possibly could. Just think the opposite of a 100% run if you will...
I wonder if speerunners have tried this this would be called low%
It happens in alot of games where you get the absolute minimum items upgrades etc

for real, I always make sure to have at least 3 calming aromas when I go to a palace, mainly because a lot of times I decide to just run away rather than taking forever to stealth around. I am severely directionally challenged in video games and I hate having to look around while in stealth mode

Hey do you think Merciless difficulty in P5R is worth it? Is it too frustrating or is it manageable? I have seen people saying that normal difficulty is too easy in this game. Merciless also seems like a better pick than Hard since you gain more exp and the 3x Techincal creates high risk/high reward situations.
Merciless difficulty is a unique way to play the game, but not the best way if it's your first couple times. I recommend sticking with Normal on your first playthrough and New Game Plus playthrough, and only go harder once you have an understanding of the game's mechanics, technical attacks, and prior knowledge of where to get the most level ups and buffs, and what confidants to rank up for efficiency. And while Merciless does give you a double-edged sword with the 3x attacks, the harder the difficulty, the less EXP and money you'll gain. Unless you've played the entire game before, I recommend staying on Normal difficulty or otherwise grinding will be a necessity. Without any prior knowledge, Merciless can be very frustrating.
@@NitsuaGamer Yeah that's what I thought, I played P5 once and I'm gonna play P5R for the 1st time now on normal than. Your videos helped me out a lot in knowing which confidants to max out first, thanks for that.
@@TheMassgames Merciless is easier than hard. This game is very easy, if you can think only a little bit, you won't die a single time on hard.
@@NitsuaGamer Actually in Royal, merciless gives you more exp and money, not less.
I doubt youll ever need to grind in merciless now as a result, making it perfect for NG and NG+ runs if you want that challenge.
Tbh Its the only difficulty I play on these days.

The Ryuji run
This is essentially the Yoker playthrough I've been wanting to run. You only do things that count as physical activities and hang out with people who do physical activities. Going full gym bro. So work out in room, go to the gym, play baseball, run with Ryuji, hang with kasumi, grind in palaces and momentos, hang out with Caroline and Justine (strength arcana + they have you go to the Gym in one of their hangout sessions) and that's pretty much it. Just get swoll and go.

Merciless difficulty is a perfect super hard difficulty. It raises damage dealt by you and the demons by a lot.
So if you play perfectly and exploit weaknesses you can have a really easy time, but if you make one mistake it's all over.

3:30 if you get their health low just by doing smaller amounts of damage, there is a decent chance they will beg for their life and you can capture them. Found this out on a run of mine

I was looking around to see if anyone else had done a ridiculous P5R challenge run. I've been planning a "Required fights only" Run which also limits how far you can go with many of the confidants. While confidants for my run will be blocked because we can't fight the OPTIONAL mementos shadows, here it's because you're too cowardly, not hot enough or you're too stupid. And of course you're level grinding while I won't be able to do that, haha. Interesting to see by restricting yourself by not engaging with a certain aspect of the game just locks you out of the best confidant bonuses in most cases.
I did that on accident without a single max confidant my first playthrough lol (besides scripted ofc) even missed the third semester

You dont get a lot of confidants so it's only really a limitation.

You can hit all weaknesses, leave one enemy left as close to 1hp, and guard. the enemy tends to beg for their life and that's how I got most personas in kamoshidas palace

Hard is harder then merciless cause you do less damage since all weakness and technical damage is tripled in merciless which makes every fight a 1 turn fight pretty much.
incorrect for this run at least he mentions a ton of times where merciless made this hard mostly at the beginning where he cant collect personas because of it and also make the kamoshida boss a little harder and other mentions here and there but mecriless is easier for some fights like the infamous okumara one
