Really useful content. I've played WoW on and off for over 12 years and while I've messed around with individual settings to address in game performance in the past I've never put an effort in to understand optimizing performance. This was a great watch through from start to finish and has inspired me to review my graphics settings on all of my most commonly played games. Thanks for taking the time to put this together.
Not sure if it was covered, but even if you set everything to low, 'Outline Mode' should be set to High if you want to see Disturbed Earth from a distance, it gives the purple outline on interactables.
Why don’t you have 1M+ subscribers by now? That’s ridiculous. I’m a 20 year vanilla launch week player (with several years away to raise a son) and your content is the best I’ve seen. Your info is like dim sum on Sunday: all the good stuff straight away and no bs. Kung hee fat Choy!
thanks so much for the kind words, one of the best comments I've read (had a good chuckle from the dim sum reference). thanks so much, happy new year to you (:
Yeah I guess wow is still a bit niche, but the content here is amazing and super well done, always solves a problem for the viewers. Big respect for your work, I subscribed for your 100k! Almost there! 🚀
@@plummet3860 It just means hes better then you, he got to experience the underneath of stormwind trade district torch glitch and talk to a apologetic npc in wetlands for a few months... But in all seriousness it just means he got a massive game changer gamer tip thats helped him 20 years too late.
Another thing to note is: The liquid Detail settings should be on "fair". Why? Because you can detect ground effects, which are under water more clearly (like volcanic or other boss mechanics). Was super useful in dungeons like tazavesh in the murloc area with dodging volcanics ;)
Amazing video, like always! not only you showing the graphics tab, you also show the people what the actual settings does, amazing explanation aswell, thank you!, now my wow looks cleaner, faster and better :)
Very useful guide, man! 2 things about my experience: 1. Changing rendering scale lower or higher than 100% - dropped my fps by 20% 2. I can't see any visual difference between 16x or 4x anisotropic filtering. So there is no change in FPS as well. Sharpness trick is awesome.
Great video, thank you mate. Couple of things I experienced: 1) Lowering render scale from 100% to 91% lowered my frame rate in every single instance. I lost a solid 15-20% FPS. I played around with the slider but didn't notice any improvement any which way. Edit: did some further testing on this in my solo environments and in some cases I lost 50-55% FPS. 2) Turning off triple buffering skewed my graphics pretty hard, however a game restart fixed it, and seemed to improve frame rate slightly. Also I would recommend using the addon Advanced Interface Options. It makes finding the settings and variables they're set to really easy (under the CVar browser tab).
@@abbeboi1992 I feel like it does cost some performance, and it also makes the game look like borderlands which goes against the intended art-style. but if you like it you like it, i personally feel like it makes my eyes hurt
wow that sharpening tip really helped. the amount of detail and the improved fps i got from this video is crazy. I was normally around 137 fps in the wild and around 35-40 in Valdrakken. With your settings it looks better and I'm around 65 fps in Val and 155-165 in the wild now. That's crazy dude, thank you! I am using a RTX 4070 gpu, Ryzen 7 5600x cpu, 32 GB ram, B550 Mobo for those that are curious.
Yeah I have a weird bug where if I lower the resolution scale it actually makes my FPS worse. So I would play at native 4k and get 90FPS for example but if I lower the resolution scale to something like 60%, I would get 50FPS. It's very odd.
I’ve spent ages trying to make the game look smoother, always cranking everything up to ultra without a second thought. Far from this wisdom -thank you so much!
hello cooper. After 5 years break came back. Today I joined a 25 man normal raid and my fps was terrible. dropping around 20. I have 6700k running on 4.3 ghz nad 980ti. Do you have any tips for upgrading my setup. cpu gpu and motherboard. My monitor is xl2411 1080p and I only wow. Thank you.
@@AlpiFirat I would recommend to upgrade to any X3d CPU favorably to a Ryzen 7 7800X3d (i used to be an intel fan boy but they are a plague right now and actually degrade as you use them 12th-14th gen) Alternatively since AM5 boards are still more expensive you could go for an AM4 board with a 5800X3d which is just a little bit slower than the 7800x3d... GPU wise the 980 ti is good enough for wow and it is more the CPU (and cache) that makes the difference in wow. I got the GIGABYTE X670 GAMING X AX V2 for my AM5 setup and am kinda happy with it.
Thank you so much for this! Everything was so helpful and I love that you went through what each setting actually does. I just changed all my settings and I love how everything is looking now.
Come on, man... another great vídeo. I'm fighting right now to extract better FPS from my old machine and this vídeo gave me a better understaning of the options that I have. ✌
Was having troube pushing in M+ until i came across this guide Quazzi. amazing as always ( running a 4090 build with a high end processor) and still what a difference! Cheers and thanks for the help understanding everything in the settings.
If you have FPS problems especially during raid encounters or big aoe pulls in m+ you may consider CPU profiling your addons and WA profiling for your weakauras. Due to how WOW engine works it utilises only small portion of your CPU so if you have older CPU or high amount of addons you may experience FPS drops or micro stutters during fights. For me worst offenders were ElvUI, vuhdo and weakauras (but its not possible to play without WA in mythic raid for example). Elvui you can disable and use more lightweight addons to customise UI, for frames use default frames or Grid2 which is way lighter than vuhdo.
Recently came across your videos, after using your UI weakaura's etc. You're probably the most underrated WoW content creator, instead of focussing on raids or PvP you actually tend to focus more on the technical side of things a lot. Which helped me a ton. Hoping you blow up more in the future, loving the content and the podcasts
Quazii your content is peak content creation! I'm retuning to WoW since MoP and I needed your videos to get back into the mix. You're seriously a great teacher! Your words connect with me well and I understand you easily. I really appreciate your videos. Easiest sub ever.
Thank you so much for this video! I can't believe how much this increased my performance while doing little to impact the quality of the game. I went from 55FPS to 170FPS. Thanks!!
The sharpen trick is insane! I actually thought that my vision got worse and turns out is was just the sharpening! One thing though didn't work for me: changing Render Scale to 91 % (or anything below 100%) would reduce FPS for me rather than increase and by a lot. I'm talking about dropping from 60 to 45 in Valdraken and from 170 to 125 in the open world
@@quaziiwow is there any way to tell why all three of the console commands resets to default after I close the game or logout of character and back into character? Is there a specific file I can perhaps change to read only in hoping to update it manually and keep it saved.
@@Rap1dACE Is your Config.wtf file is set to read-only? It should not be read-only. It's in your WoW folder > _retail (or classic) folder > WTF folder.

This guide was great! Really appreciate all the time you put in to testing and dialing in a good balance of fps and visuals. I went from about 70 fps to close to 200 doing this. I went from the base 7 quality to this.
Brilliant and very informative/helpful video. certaintly helped a wow veteran of 20 years. i've never messed with the contrast above default and when i did, it instantly looked better and not washed out. all the other reccommended changes by you also prooved to be very effective. thank you so much.
That sharpen hack looks awful, it oversharpens everything and just exposes the pixels. I think everyone in that reddit thread is crazy if they think this looks good, or they have their monitors configured wrong. Even if you personally like a sharp look, I'd never ever use anything above (below in this case) 1.6 or so... anything beyond that will blow up all pixels and oversharpen it, tested at 1440p.
this is soooo helpful since I accidentally turned my render scale down to 50% and didn't know what happened I've searched so many guides but none of them talked as thorough so I still didn't get my render scale correct....Also I thought environment details were important personally but when I turned it to 1 as you did nothing big happened so I think I will stick to that! thx for making this vid
Nice guide but something to add is that capping fps will reduce your power usage and heat output. One could argue that the extra frames might help in instanced content, but for sure it's unnecessary for outdoor content. On the other hand lowering your electricity bill might be nice. I really wish they would introduce dungeon/instance settings in addition to the raid/bg setting. EDIT: Here is some data with my Zen3 5900x and RTX 3080 going from uncapped (~100fps) to 60fps cap reduces the power usage by 11% from 315W to 280W and when wow is inactive on the second monitor capped to 8 fps the consumption drops to 210W.
Ghosted my computer and forgot to backup so much settings after reconfiguring everything and watched this guide. I went from like 60 fps to 120 fps steady. From screen tearing to extreme smoothness and insane performance increase in Raid/M+. I'm so glad I found this video from Quazii it's really the best detailed explanation and way to increase FPS massively! Thanks brother! Keep the good work up!
Just came across your video, it helped me reach ~60 fps on my pretty shitty MacBook without the game looking like I’m playing on ps1. Just in time for TWW. Thanks so much !
Just a note, changing the resolution to 91% from 100% actually made me lose 50fps. I usually sat at 200fps, and after all the changes was at 140ish. Only after going back to 100% resolution it went back to normal fps.
@@nickjason4480 I think it's because the setting itself doesn't activate at 100%, it only begins working if it's set lower than your resolution, otherwise it defaults to a different type of resample quality, the one he uses looks a lot nicer for the little performance hit imo, turn it down then back to 100 and check the ground and area for how much it changes details.
I've been out of the game for a couple of years, your guides saved me a ton of time setting up my UI and tweak my graphics settings for the latest expansion, great guides, great work!
This is THE BEST graphics setting crash course out there. I just posted it on my guilds discord. I got about 65 fps boost, inout feels cleaner, games looks about the same, and I can see all the mechanics way better. A+ Job. S-Tier Guide.
Thank you @quaziiwow for the in-depth explanation, I've used your settings and improved my FPS by a ton, but not comprimising that much on the visuals. Just a side note on the "Render Scale", if set lower than 100% my FPS drops drastically....
I did eveything as you said and I need to admit it is a significant difference. I just set View Distance, Environment Detail and Ground Clutter to 10 because I love the looks of the environment when doing world quests and so.. Thank you very much!
omg thank you so much for showing me the sharpness command. i've been going crazy for years like "is my eyesight getting worse or is the game just blurrier now" this helped me out so much already. ToT
Every guide you make I find is so perfect for 3 reasons 1) its all relevant information 2) extremely concise with no filler so i dont get bored 3) explained clearly and easily Thank you for your guides and your plater profiles, you make this game and community much better!
Absolutely loved this! 🙂 I never took my time tweaking these settings, for.... some reason... 🤷 So I loved seeing this breakdown. I ended up setting my contrast at 70%, and my gamma at 1.2, to get a more "cozy and mysterious" feeling. Looks like a new game now hehe.
I have a 4080 Super followed this guide - Turned out Great - Unchecked Frame Rate Limit of 200 and my FPS in a the City went from 120ish to 220+ - Thx Quazii
16:55 When I drop my render scale to 91% my FPS drops from 80 to 60 in Dornogal. When I move it back up it goes back up to 80. What you're saying makes sense but it's not working for me in practice. Anyone who wants to try and copy this video should test this step individually and see if it helps, because it drastically reduced my frame rate.
I stumbled upon your video and just wanted to say THANK YOU SO MUCH. I haven't upgraded my pc since Legion and don't have the money to upgrade right now. Since mid of DF and now TWW it's been a terrible experience, even though I THOUGHT I had the settings the way they needed to be (everything low). I copied the exact same graphics settings you showed us and my experience is SO much better now, even on an old pc. I can finally play again during big pulls or in bgs and raids. Even getting 100fps in the open world now. Thanks!
Stumbled on that video, probably because it must have been upvoted so much. THANK YOU SIR ! Such a game changer I'm super happy. liked subscribed commented, will chant songs about your wisdom to my kids. thanks man.
Great video, thanks for sharing. It's important to note that for Anti-Aliasing settings, the higher your resolution, the less you need it. So if you're playing at 4K you probably don't need Antialiasing at all. I keep mine low or off on most games at 1440p.
just set up my new rig where I can finally reach nice fps and this video was just what I was looking for to optimise fps/quality, Quazii you're a true life saver of the wow community love your content keep it coming :) also really like your vibes always positive with a ton of knowledge
'View Distance' and 'Environment Detail' helps you with finding your quest objectives. That is, if you don't have add-ons that do that for you. Anyway, this is the best guide for input-lag issues that I've seen on YT.
I've been meaning to watch this video for so long.. I finally did and made the suggested changes and feel so silly for waiting so long. Immediate and incredible changes to performance! Thanks, Quazii! :D
Wow man this channel is absolutely gold I have to share this to people. Game is so much better after following the video and I’m using the UI and weakauras and plater. Wow ty man
I honestly come back to this video every time there's an update or patch and seems to jack with my settings. Even with beefy hardware, I find it helpful to pull back some of the "nice-to-haves" to ensure smooth game play during dungeons and raids. Thanks!
TY! Great video. Only one setting I did differently for my RTX3080 - Spell Density on Dynamic instead of Essential as my card would downclock and drop my FPS. So Dynamic with a target of 142 FPS since my monitor is 144 Hz (no tearing). Thanks again!
Still helping people to this day. I recently came back to wow, and my game was running poorly, especially in cities. I left some settings higher than these for general use, and gathering, but my FPS went from being around 45 in the centre of Dornogal and 75-80 in the open world to 70-95 in Dornogal and 220-240 in the open world! I was already using FSR, but the zoom hack helped a lot with visibility. It's nice to make use of my 240hz monitor in WoW
I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude for your tutorial on settings. I can’t believe you don’t have a million subscribers. Your content is invaluable and if more people watched it wow would be a better pugging environment
Super explanation, even as a non-English speaker who has never studied English I understood everything perfectly. But unfortunately, even with these settings in the Dragonflight capital, I can't get above 50FPS. It's about time I bought a new PC. But that's the lot I have when you work in a social-medical profession, you don't get paid well. So it'll be a while before I can play content with a better FPS again. =) Best regards from Germany and keep up the good work, very good content you deliver!
Have played this game since Vanilla and various other online games. This video and description is without a doubt the best explanation and guide to get the perfect balance between performance and usability I have ever watched. Keep up the great work and thank you!!!!!
This helped a ton! have had particle density on "fair" for years because I knew it made the fine details stand out, but thought it was an FPS killer. Turns out with all these settings combined you can max it out no problem. Also the game just feels more responsive in general
A couple of points to maybe touch on, although you have given one of [if not] THE best and most thorough explanations of WoW's graphical setting I have seen. Enough I assume for most people to have a generic concept of what to set in other games as well, as most of if not all of the setting here are universal throughout other games also. Took me months, and in some cases years to not only figure out what each setting really does within a game, but also the proper combination to hit that sweet juicy eye candie, and still be playable and/or high FPS. You just helped a lot of people bypass a lot of that time by being so in depth. So the first I wanted to touch on was, View Distance; I am not 100% sure if this includes NPC/Players/Quest Objectives or if this is strictly Environmental only. I haven't done much testing myself, and I like seeing the World, of Warcraft, so I turned mine up. If only Environmental (which I assume), then is all good. But if not, it would be nice to spot these things at a save/efficient distance, so maybe turning this up if you feel the same. Again, only if... Shadows. Another finicky B. Personally I like the visuals, and I have to say when on a PvP realm, seeing that shadow of a character standing on top of a building you're coming out of, or around the corner, even that shadow of something flying overhead, at least you know you're about to get ganked, or you can plan your attack/escape. They lose the element of surprise. As a lower level this has saved me a ghost run a few times. So shadows is worth having at least mid setting or most just don't show. While playing around with the settings myself, I found turning up the contrast and dropping the gamma a smidge, made the game a lot more immersive. I had mine set to 75 contrast and 0.9 gamma. Having the gamma at 0.8 is better, but some dark places were just too dark imo, and I'm not turning up the brightness.. You are one of 2 people I have ever seen mention this at all. So cheers to you! Great video all around.
THIS GUIDE WORKS, my game was washed out looking and choppy, I switched to these settings and it looks like a new game and plays 100% better, graphics are so crisp now.
everything worked for me , getting 144 FPS and i've never gotten that. the only thing that made it worse was adjusting the render resolution. Sliding it below or above 100% just decreased my FPS. Great video!!!!
Yooo! Thanks so much for the video lesson! I am playing WoW Classic Hardcore and though some of the settings you've shown are not in Classic I have changed the ones that are included. I am now at over 700 FPS!!!!!!! Dude, thanks!!!

What does being a vanilla player make any difference?
@@plummet3860 It just means hes better then you, he got to experience the underneath of stormwind trade district torch glitch and talk to a apologetic npc in wetlands for a few months... But in all seriousness it just means he got a massive game changer gamer tip thats helped him 20 years too late.
Another thing to note is: The liquid Detail settings should be on "fair". Why? Because you can detect ground effects, which are under water more clearly (like volcanic or other boss mechanics). Was super useful in dungeons like tazavesh in the murloc area with dodging volcanics ;)
That’s correct, imo just the ultra setting is killing performance. The rest have similar performance but you gain a decent awareness boost.
@@tbone8358nah with low u have a white taint on the water with fair it’s transparent already tested it
@@mwlo8635 on fair the water is basically invisible and it’s only on fair. Try it out and test it for yourself. On low water has a white taint
There should be one for ground effects under carpets. Looking at you, DRH.
You also want shadow qual to fair , in some fights u need to see shadow of something to know where gonna slam mehanic ( like tenticles etc)
Amazing video, like always! not only you showing the graphics tab, you also show the people what the actual settings does, amazing explanation aswell, thank you!, now my wow looks cleaner, faster and better :)
Very useful guide, man!
2 things about my experience:
1. Changing rendering scale lower or higher than 100% - dropped my fps by 20%
2. I can't see any visual difference between 16x or 4x anisotropic filtering. So there is no change in FPS as well.
Sharpness trick is awesome.
right re (1) - there's a bug going on that blizzard needs to fixed. covered that in pinned comment and description of video. thanks for sharing.
Great video, thank you mate.
Couple of things I experienced:
1) Lowering render scale from 100% to 91% lowered my frame rate in every single instance.
Can confirm. I play on everything maxxed and i get around 140 fps however setting the slider to 91% dropped me to 70-80 fps.
The sharpen trick is INSANE!
does it affect ur performance ?? taking alot from cpu or gpu ??
@@abbeboi1992 I haven't seen any performance reduction on my end
@@abbeboi1992 I feel like it does cost some performance, and it also makes the game look like borderlands which goes against the intended art-style. but if you like it you like it, i personally feel like it makes my eyes hurt
@@ZiqpY you can turn it down in slider
wow that sharpening tip really helped. the amount of detail and the improved fps i got from this video is crazy.
It's very odd.
yup it's a bug - blizz needs to fix. added that comment to pinned and description (: for now use 100% in ur case.
I’ve spent ages trying to make the game look smoother, always cranking everything up to ultra without a second thought. Far from this wisdom -thank you so much!
Great video
hello cooper. Thank you.
@@AlpiFirat I would recommend to upgrade to any X3d CPU favorably to a Ryzen 7 7800X3d (i used to be an intel fan boy but they are a plague right now and actually degrade as you use them 12th-14th gen)
Alternatively since AM5 boards are still more expensive you could go for an AM4 board with a 5800X3d which is just a little bit slower than the 7800x3d...
Glad I could help!
This is easily one of (If not) THE best Game-Tweak videos on RUclips, not just for WoW but everything.
I'm talking about dropping from 60 to 45 in Valdraken and from 170 to 125 in the open world
Yes that’s the render scale bug affecting some folks. Added that to the pinned comment - keep it at 100% for your case 👍
@@quaziiwow is there any way to tell why all three of the console commands resets to default after I close the game or logout of character and back into character? Is there a specific file I can perhaps change to read only in hoping to update it manually and keep it saved.

This guide was great! Really appreciate all the time you put in to testing and dialing in a good balance of fps and visuals. I went from about 70 fps to close to 200 doing this. I went from the base 7 quality to this.
this zoomhack with 2.6 doesnt do anything to my screen i cant zoom out more etc
Great video. Small note: if you play on higher resolution monitor, you can probably disable Anti-Aliasing.
Grats on 100k man! Glad I came across your channel, and I'll definitely be sharing this with my wow friends. GLHF!
Thanks so much for your support! Much appreciated!
this is soooo helpful since I accidentally turned my render scale down to 50% and didn't know what happened I've searched so many guides but none of them talked as thorough so I still didn't get my render scale correct....Also I thought environment details were important personally but when I turned it to 1 as you did nothing big happened so I think I will stick to that! thx for making this vid
I lose around 20-30 frames if i put render scale under 100%🤔
worked as a charm ! tyvm bud and good luck with ur channel !!!
glad i can help. thank you for ur support!
It's better practice to limit the fps in your graphics drivers/cards settings then. The wow fps capping settings seem to be a little bit suboptimal.
Does this work in SOD?
No, unfortunately not
The scaling One does!!
Same here. Going any lower than 100% reduced my FPS. RTX3070 Ti, 1080p 144Hz monitor, i9-13900K
Same, anything less than 100 resolution loses me 30+ FPS
@@nickjason4480 I think it's because the setting itself doesn't activate at 100%, it only begins working if it's set lower than your resolution, otherwise it defaults to a different type of resample quality, the one he uses looks a lot nicer for the little performance hit imo, turn it down then back to 100 and check the ground and area for how much it changes details.
I've been out of the game for a couple of years, your guides saved me a ton of time setting up my UI and tweak my graphics settings for the latest expansion, great guides, great work!
Bro your channel is the reason to start WoW again. So easy to understand the videos and crystal clear !
This is THE BEST graphics setting crash course out there. I just posted it on my guilds discord. I got about 65 fps boost, inout feels cleaner, games looks about the same, and I can see all the mechanics way better. A+ Job. S-Tier Guide.
dude, this is SOOOO SUPER Helpful. Thank you very much for all you do.
ToT
Every guide you make I find is so perfect for 3 reasons
1) its all relevant information
2) extremely concise with no filler so i dont get bored
3) explained clearly and easily
Thank you for your guides and your plater profiles, you make this game and community much better!
You're back in WoW?! God damn, that makes me so happy!
Really nice video. I personally dont like to disable almost everything since low shadows/ water/ ground clutter & environmental detail gives ambience.
This is super helpful. Don't know why I didn't make these changes sooner! Thank you.
Great Video! This has helped me tweak some of my settings to get visual clarity and maximize FPS.
Thanks Quazii, found this late but definitely helped a lot. Cheers!!!
My performance and game never looked so clear, thank you so much for all the work you do, I truly appreciate you
Wow man this channel is absolutely gold I have to share this to people.
Thanks!
Dude this was the best most informative guide I've ever watched for optimizing a PC game, I appreciate you!
TY! Great video. Only one setting I did differently for my RTX3080 - Spell Density on Dynamic instead of Essential as my card would downclock and drop my FPS. So Dynamic with a target of 142 FPS since my monitor is 144 Hz (no tearing). Thanks again!
Don't comment often but this video was greatly needed and appreciated. Thank you Quazii. All the best.
Great video I have just gone in trying to figure this out for myself and your video helped a lot
Keep it up. These are appreciated. Only request is to keep updating as each xpack comes out since they often change things up.
Will do (: cheers
Still helping people to this day. I recently came back to wow, and my game was running poorly, especially in cities. I left some settings higher than these for general use, and gathering, but my FPS went from being around 45 in the centre of Dornogal and 75-80 in the open world to 70-95 in Dornogal and 220-240 in the open world! I was already using FSR, but the zoom hack helped a lot with visibility. It's nice to make use of my 240hz monitor in WoW
How am I only seeing this now 😅 commenting so I can fix this for myself after work! Thank you!

Have played this game since Vanilla and various other online games. This video and description is without a doubt the best explanation and guide to get the perfect balance between performance and usability I have ever watched. Keep up the great work and thank you!!!!!
glad I could help thank you for the support
Great video all around.
i've watched so many videos about fixing fps, but this one ACTUALLY is immediately obviously improved. thank you so much
The prepatch reset all my settings just watched this again and my game LOOKS AMAZING, thanks again for this.
Thank you i play on a computer from the early 2000, This has helped me a ton.
