    Considering how we’re being told that petroleum products are killing the planet, car manufacturers are still using single use plastics on their headlights.
    What happened to glass headlights? They rarely chipped, and were made of a material that can be recycled indefinitely.

      Had glass headlights on my old Citroen BX GTi. An impact with a pigeon was all it took to destroy one! And,incidentally,the glass was 5 to 6mm thick! Plastic has flexibility,unlike glass. Oh,and regarding dullness,the (in situ)application of Solvol Autosol metal polish with an electric buffing pad will restore most plastic units to their original shine, and ,should they be lacquer coated,this can be reapplied via a rattle can of clear coat from your local DIY store. Job done!

    I get very good results from 5 mins with a rag and T-Cut or rubbing compound. Finish off with some car polish. I've done literally hundreds for customers to help their cars through the MOT inspection. I can only devote a few minutes as I usually have a queue of cars waiting, so my technique has developed. Arms feel like they're going to drop of when I've finished though! When the headlights are cloudy it ruins the beam pattern and dazzles oncoming drivers. And you see less 🙂

    I think that General Motors used something like this to polish their plastic steering wheels pre-1970's
    From Wikipedia: Vapor polishing is a method of polishing plastics to reduce the surface roughness or improve clarity. Typically, a component is exposed to a chemical vapor causing the surface to flow thereby improving the surface finish. This method of polishing is frequently used to return clear materials to an optical quality finish after machining. Vapor polishing works well in the internal features of components.
    Feature size changes of the plastic component generally do not occur. Post stress relieving is usually required as vapor polishing sets up surface stresses that can cause crazing[citation needed].
    Plastics that respond well to vapor polishing are polycarbonate, acrylic, polysulfone, PEI, and ABS.
    The technique is also being used to improve the surface of objects created with 3D printing techniques. As the printer deposits layer upon layer of material to build the object, the surface is often not entirely smooth. The smoothness of the surface can be greatly increased by vapor polishing.[1]

      All I know is what I read on the wiki and don't recall where I read about the 1960's use case for plastic steering wheel finishing. These days in the USA the vapors would make such techniques unpopular with the Air Quality Management authorities. The Acetone that I think they used is pretty strong solvent and might just remove any paint.@@sttm1283

На продажу конечно можно и так оставить, фары будут блестеть ещё пару месяцев. Но для себя, поверхность нужно покрыть или лаком, а лучше защитной полиуретановой плёнкой! Heres a fact people you can get a better result wet sanding from 1000 to 5000grit, then using a small 3" rotary polisher with compounds and GOOD quality buffing and polishing pads. Second of all holding a flame under a thin aluminum can with acetone is extremely extremely f**king dangerous. Acetone is more flammable than gasoline. A lot more flammable and i do not recommend this because when it goes it all ignites at once going BOOM!!! exactly like gun powder. I know, i paint and do cerakote for a living and old rags used with acetone have turned my burning barrel into a gigantic shot gun a couple times when i lit it and blowing all the trash straight up in the air 20' then landing all around the 55gal drum that is my burning barrel

      “The stoichiometric ratio is the exact ratio between air and flammable gas or vapor at which complete combustion takes place.” Just because there’s a natural gas being let out of the swamp doesn’t mean someone else on the other side of the county doesn’t get to smoke a cigarette. Have you ever seen the video of the pale of gasoline that someone puts a welding ark in? The fire triangle states that there’s a source of ignition, and there’s a source of fuel, but there’s not a source of oxygen, regardless, the ratio of the oxygen to the fuel still has to meet the efficient.

      @rupe53 10 месяцев назад

      @@williamcope2652 key there being complete combustion... or the ideal mixture for efficiency. Many flammables have a very wide range of combustion, although not ideal. • @rupe53

      @@williamcope2652 The stochiometric point is for ideal combustion. IOW, least emissions and most power. Gasoline is 14.7:1 but there is a wider range of flammability overall. They are called the LEL (Lower Explosive Limit) and the UEL (Upper Explosive Limit) You also have to consider the conditions where you actually have a vapor to burn. Gasoline has no vapor at around -50F but plenty at room temp. Fuel oil / diesel has almost no vapor till you reach over 125F. IOW, you need the vapor and the air mixture. In this video there's plenty of air so it's a matter of reaching a rich enough mix to go boom.

    アセトンは有機溶剤なので取り扱いはラッカーシンナー(薄め液)より揮発性が高く人体への刺激が高い為/カビキラー等の塩素系と同じ扱いが必要!

    Forget all the crap that all these people tell you to use, YOU DO NOT NEED ANY OF THEM!!! Just use TOOTHPASTE!!! Then with a bit of elbow grease, rub it right in, and then rinse off with water. I use a soft scourer, then with a damp rag and water(depending how bad your headlights are, you can even use a steelo pad), then use a damp cloth and water. It may take a couple of times to get your headlights crystal clear, but it will do it!!! Under $2.00 for a tube of toothpaste, and no need for skilled tradesmen either!!!! Please try it!😀
