"The Town Car is body-on-frame... which is an old-school way of constructing cars you just don't see anymore, except for full-size pickups and some large SUVs." Yes, it creates a strong, solid, and extremely durable vehicle, hence why modern rugged vehicles use it and, as you cite later, is what gives this vehicle the ability to go hundreds of thousands of miles even under the heavy use and abuse of large city livery services. You also mention they didn't upgrade it over the years, expecting it to go out. I'd argue it actually went out because of lack of upgrades. From 1998-2011, it received very little treatment and the engine in 2011 was still lower in performance than a Cadillac Fleetwood from 1994. Have Mercedes or BMW not change or upgrade one of their models for over a decade and see how well their sales go. I think Lincoln wanted to phase out the Town Car, not its customers, so it could phase in cheaper, yet more modern, construction.
No, the customers were drying up(or, more accurately, dying off). The vast majority of panther platform sales at that point were police cars and livery vehicles, but even those sales were drying up. Continuing the platform would have been a disastrous move, especially with all the money they would've thrown away on getting the 30-something year old platform to keep up with changing fuel-economy, emissions, and safety regulations. It was the longest running platform of any American auto maker ever- it was time to retire it. But they were fantastic vehicles
All facts. The powers that be have been trying to destroy this type of car since the early seventies. These represent solid independence. That’s a no no
Well Ford didn't upgrade it because of the SUV trend, Lincoln only sells SUVs & Crossovers now and the Navigator has replaced the Town Car as their top luxury limo. They even tried bringing the Continental back but it wasn't very attractive and the Navigator killed it in sales.
Do you want to know why the Lincoln Town Car only has 224 HP? Do you know why? Because the elderly do not need more than this power!!! What silly and stupid excuses!! Lexus Ls and Mercedes S Class, most of their owners in the nineties were rich and elderly, but did this prevent them from putting a powerful engine in their cars!!! They will tell you that because of the low sales and high demand for 4×4 cars, is this the stupid reason that prevented them from installing a powerful engine, new transmission and improved suspension in the year 1990-2003 ?????

We bought used 2005 Town Car just yesterday. It is absolutely identical except the alloys are different in design. Same color and all. It's exactly what Doug says. Simple, cushy, lumbering, and low tech. Absolutely refreshing after our tight, high tech Prius with a bad ride. We bought the Lincoln for touring in comfort. I'm 6'5" 280lbs. It fits me like a glove. Thanks Doug!
Doug I used to drive the "L" extended version for an airport limousine company in Canada. Ford was stupid to end production of those cars as they were the finest mass produced livery car on the market. Many of them ran for a quarter million miles and the only surprise weakness was the intake manifold. They also gave up the Crown Vic at the same time which ruined the Police/Taxi market as well. I'll never understand that decision as it was a successful market for Ford. They just followed everyone else down the rabbit hole of front wheel drive cookie cutter cars. You could drive a Town Car 2,000 miles and not even feel stiff when you climbed out. They also looked great in black.
Tell me about it, just bought a 2011 black signature long wheelbase Towncar today. What a great driving car, doesnt handle as good as my Crown vic interceptor but rides smooth as a cloud.
@@brad2012100 What we would like to know is, did Ford even bother to try shoving an ecoboost V6 into a town car for better fuel economy? The answer, probably not
I managed to snag one of these gems in good condition for $2,700 just four days ago. They are every bit as comfortable as they claim to be. Even with heavily worn front and rear end parts, this boat simply floats over the road without a care in the world. Potholes are merely an afterthought in these machines. Great car.

Yeah, I really don't think he thought that through. Sure, T-shirts are kind of boring and everybody does it, but they at least are useful for something. Does he really think people will buy, frame and hang on their walls postcard sized pictures of their favorite RUclipsr? Getting something signed usually is a souvenir, something to remember the moment you met some celebrity in public by and show to your friends to prove to them that you actually did meet that person. Buying a signed picture and receiving it by mail, doesn't even do that. I like Doug and this channel and I'm not one of those guys who only seem to be here to write "Doug, the type of guy..."-comments, but the idea to buy such a photograph is a pretty bizarre notion and I think only a small number of weirdos are likely to consider something like that.
TrangleC I agree completely. I got excited when I saw he was talking about merch, then I saw the picture thing and I was like aww... I like Doug and I like this channel, and I really like this video the town car is awesome. But I don’t want a picture of a car with some guy on it. I guess I’ve never thought of you tubers as being famous enough for just autographing something to add value to it. I think Doug is missing how many of his older male fans are. It would be cool to have a shirt so maybe if I’m at the store or something someone will see the Doug shirt and know I’m a car dude or at least know I support Doug. If you need money ask for donations, I’d gladly give honestly. Hell even a large poster would be a lot cooler to hang up. But a small tiny thing what the hell am I gonna do with that. Love you Doug.

In my opinion, considering the age, this is one of the most attractive car ever made. Subtle and effortlessly elegant. Doesn't scream "I got money" like other luxury vehicles nowadays, but get's you from A to B without breaking a sweat. One of the biggest mistakes Ford has ever made by discontinuing the model.
I agree. A well maintained Town Car looks way classier than any modern luxury car. It STILL looks great today. Definitely going to be a classic. It might not be breaking any design frontiers but it just looks good. Just needs a cheap LS engine and transmission swap and then the power and fuel economy issues are solved!

This was the typical taxi car in NY. I remember riding in one of these cars, and being impressed by the comfort. The motor didn't make any noise or vibration. Irregularities on the road seem to disappear. Wonderful comfort.
Same here. Worked for a limo company that had a fleet of these, although they were a bit newer, mostly 2008-2011 models. As a regular driver of sports/performance cars, I wouldn't call the acceleration in the Town Car "effortless". The power is adequate enough, but that's about it. At times, I would say it was actually underpowered, and recall situations where I could barely get out of my own way. It's a V8 making only 240 HP in a big heavy car. To put that in perspective, I own two cars with turbo 4 cylinder motors making close to 300 HP that weigh a thousand pounds less. Do the math. Number of cylinders is insignificant when it comes to acceleration. That being said, the engine is nice and smooth, the car is extremely solid and reliable, and delivers a level of comfort and spaciousness matched by nothing anywhere near its price range. It was simple in terms of features, and had nice comfortable heated seats. It's a great car for long trips. Sporting around town is another story, however.

That’s a no no
Sounds pretty spot on
Well Ford didn't upgrade it because of the SUV trend, Lincoln only sells SUVs & Crossovers now and the Navigator has replaced the Town Car as their top luxury limo.

Absolutely. They've got to be shitty, a poor fit, with the collars washed and hashed all to hell.
It was government regulation that killed big cars like this they demanded more fuel economy and it just wasn't possible
Tell me about it, just bought a 2011 black signature long wheelbase Towncar today. What a great driving car, doesnt handle as good as my Crown vic interceptor but rides smooth as a cloud.
