Both of them are just individually brilliant and when they sing together their harmony is seamless. No one can blend so seamlessly as Emmy and Linda. Just sensational.
Well, this is a treat for the ears! A young Ricky Skaggs; Helen Carter on autoharp (and by her smile you'd think she liked what she was hearing A LOT) and those amazing voices, Emmylou's and Linda's. It doesn't get much better.
but why was Helen Carter relegated to the side, as she is? didn't see the whole concert, so I hope she was given a little more prominence than here on this clip.
Always loved the sound of Linda and Emmylou togeather. Beautiful mix of vocals. So sad Linda lost the ability to sing. The voice of a generation! Thank you Linda for all you gave us. For sharing your incredible gift with us! Thanx also to Emmylou for her loyalty ro Linda ,she is a true friend. Glad these performances were 🎥
Linda had a unique talent - she could sing anything with anybody - and she always sounded great. Still love her music - it is timeless. Lion in Winter with Hoyt - Moonlight in Vermont with Frank are 2 of my favorites and don't forget Under African Skies with Paul. My son wanted me to listen to the Graceland album with him and when that song came on - he said "I wish I knew who the lady singing is" - and I said "Linda Ronstadt - no doubt"
She made me feel so much better about it in one of her interviews. Always cheerful, when asked about her illness, she answered, "I was a long time at the trough." That statement of acceptance has helped me so much in dealing with a serious chronic illness.
Linda Ronstadt is one of, if not the very best singers of any genre ever!!! She could sing Rock, Country, Latino, anything.....She was said to be the highest paid Rock-n-Roll singer of all time in the 70's! Breaks my heart that she can no longer sing.....what an awesome voice that beautiful woman had!❤💞😢😥🎼🎶🎵
This is pure class of two exceptional singers. Pure talent and wonderful emotion from both these ladies. They compliment each other so beautifully that’s it’s a joy to listen to them.
So I bought "Heart Like A Wheel" and saw Emmylou Harris on the back and so I bought "Luxury Liner" and on the back and I saw Dolly Parton and on and on and on....
@@eddiewillers1442 Exactly. Just listened to my new Andrew Gold CD after listening to my new Karla Bonhoff CD. My new Wendy Waldman CD is still in the wrapper, but that one is next. Ms. Ronstadt made these people known to me. I also recently listened to Linda and Emmylou's Western Wall CD, and it is just lilting and lovely. All good things come to an end; I am terribly sorry Ms. Ronstadt's musical career ended because of an illness, but she is still alive and loved and engaged. She entered the national spotlight one more time this past year; the documentary and the related interviews and her attendance at the Kennedy Center Honors and the AARP Movie Awards gave her peers and fans one more opportunity to bask in the glory of her voice and express our appreciation for her incredible body of work.
Wow!! This is great. What beautiful voices and harmony these 3 put together in a very simple melody that just shouts what real country music really is.
Linda Ronstadt should be in the Country Music Hall of Fame , what is the deal Nashville? Linda Ronstadt turned a whole generation onto Country Music brought it into the mainstream in a way no one before her or after her did never mind her Country Album and record sales.
Linda Ronstadt was a superstar at this point. She and Donna Summer ruled the late 70s. It was a big deal for her to be there as a guest. The queen of country rock!
Now this is the way country music is supposed to sound like. Not like the noise they call country today. Great post. Thank you for another one for my favorites. CARL
I remember watching this when it aired. It was the first time I had heard that song, even though I'd been raised on mountain music and the Carter Family. The earth stopped turning while they sang this song and I was never the same.
RUBYSSHOES the earth never turns anyway my friend, Gods creation is fixed and firm like Him and the earth is flat and the sun and moon and stars above us revolving in perfect synchronicity as they have done sinece time began
Wonderful - such pure talent - no throwing themselves around or showing off - just real artisty, and a joy to watch and hear. Both such pretty girls too - as well as incredible voices
I love Emmylou and Ricky. But, tonight my mind is on Linda. What a wonderful voice and spirit. She was the true voice of a generation. 100,000,000 records sold and a chain of young men's hearts that stretched from sea to shining sea. Hell, around the world would be more accurate
Emmy and Linda absolutely legends, always bring tears of gratitude they are timeless, I'm seventy and just would just love to bring back those years for all of us, I'd be over visiting you, so thankyoy fron South East England xx
John Korvell Emmy Lou in her prime was the most beautiful woman in the world. Willie Nelson said there are only two kinds of men in this world. Those that are in love with Emmy Lou, and those that haven’t met her yet. Oh yeah, and by the way she is still in the top 10.
One of the very first songs I learned to play and sing in '63 was Wildwood Flower. Gold Watch and Chain has to be my favorite Carter family song. This is the way it's supposed to be done with the spirit and beauty of these voices and the anchor of the Carters' original creativity, and down home feel. I wonder why they left out the 3rd verse.
Linda Ronstadt in a LEG CAST...I have looked for this footage for years, I remember seeing this as a kid...her toes wiggling to the beat...great singers, good stuff!

Man, Emmylou is on another level at times, to describe Emmylou's singing as beautiful is really underselling it, it's more accurately described as beatitude. If you wanted to know what it must be like to be on the summit of Mt. Everest overlooking the world, just watch Emmylou sing her verse in this song is maybe the best analogy I can think of.
I like this song, I like the performers (Emmylou, Linda, Ricky)...Thank's also for this upload and thanks to RUclips for his suggestion. Jo Luttringer, France
Ricky has so much talent, kid can play a lot of things. Emmy lou, and Linda sound great here . But when they added Dolly grandslam . Its kinda like the carter sister's with aunt sara and maybelle
I actually know Emmylou from her coffee shop days in Arlington, VA. She is a tremendous talent and a very nice person. I've never met Linda, but she was a superstar. So sad that disease took her voice. God Bless you Linda and Emmylou.
Ang ganda talaga ang boses ni Ms. Linda... ganda nang temple ng boses nila ni Ms. Emmylou... naiibang mga boses... wala pa akong narinig that could surplus the voice of Ms. Linda... praying for your recovery...
I agree about the way Linda looks in this video. I've been a fan of hers for over 40 years and she sounds probably the best I've ever heard her. I just love this video!
mrbmac0509 I’ve been a fan of hers since 1973 and was fortunate enough to see her in concert at Alpine Valley, WI just after she made Blue Bayou. Her performance blew me away and I don’t suppose breathing all of the smoke from the weed surrounding us detracted any from our enjoyment. In my book, she is the greatest female vocalist in my time.
No two singers even come close to the beautiful sound created by Linda and Emmylou. Pure perfection!
Sending love right back, a smile is the best makeup a girl can wear thus your smile brightens up the world.did you attend any concert of the gem live?
Only made better when it’s three with Dolly

And in the background on harp?? Mother Carter..
@@dezfitz62 That is Helen Carter on autoharp. She is the daughter of mother Maybelle Carter.
Emmylou's voice range is awesome. No strain reaching the high notes. What can I say about Linda? One of the best female voices to grace this Earth.
Linda Ronstadt has quite the range herself love them both I agree
Emmy Lou is THE essential female country singer!❤
And Linda is in a class of her own!

Sharon Ramone, you speak for so many of us!
They sound wonderful. Ricky's harmony is right there. No one overpowers.
So true.
Wonderful singing from all three here. It's a pity the camera excluded Ricky Skaggs so much of the time.
Ray Staar he was still pretty unknown outside bluegrass circles. Traveling with a Emmylou gave him broader exposure.
Linda and Emmylou are both so committed to the song, always doing what’s best for the song, symbiotically without any upstaging. Perfection.
Just jammin’ and we’re so lucky to be a witness to it.
I shed a tear every time I see Linda. What a tragedy that she can't sing anymore. She will always sound great.
If my tears could heal her throat, I'd give her every blessed one of 'em.

Linda Ronstadt is the most superior vocalist in pop, rock, country and Spanish. She is a music visionary far beyond the fake acts of today.
She made me feel so much better about it in one of her interviews. Always cheerful, when asked about her illness, she answered, "I was a long time at the trough." That statement of acceptance has helped me so much in dealing with a serious chronic illness.
I wish Linda Ronstadt would've recorded an album of Cartet Family songs. She had the perfect vocal range.

Ronstadt's Voice is otherworldly. Always an interesting chick - surrounded by devoted talented friends.
Linda Ronstadt was just so bleeping beautiful.
What a lineup of talent and style! I wish this kind of musical wonderfulness would go on forever.
Would never have been exposed to this sort of music if not for Ronstadt. We owe her pipes and her very being far more respect.

Linda - a voice that is clear, warm and strong. Always surrounded by devotional talented friends.

A.P. Carter is eternal. These harmonies almost as good as the originals. The Carter Family were the original Beatles.
Ricky did a beautiful job too!
