The amazing thing is, with the 2020 model Honda fixed all the complaints about this bike that popped up during the years. Literally all of them. Round speedo, gear indicator, better seat, better suspension, slip clutch, led lights, nicer looking indicator and tail lights. My 2020 model is arriving in a few weeks, I'm getting really excited...
Ffs, I have the 2018, without the slipper clutch, gear indicator, tach, and God knows what else, and love this fucker. Congrats @rockerviktor , I hope you loved her as much as I still love mine.
I bought one in May after getting my license. Drove it all summer and loved it. The seat did get uncomfortable after a couple hours on the highway as did my feet. Not a problem as it's mainly for touring around the back roads for me. Might upgrade to a Triumph in a couple of years. Thanks from Canada for the video Mr fish.
This is one of those bikes that I would never think about buying, until I rode with somebody on one..and got to see it in person and sit on it..it is not as slow as you would think. Comfortable, looks good..The rebel line has been around for almost as long as I have been riding..the update was needed..and is awesome!!
Cheers for the video mate, full of info and I appreciate sharing what you think of them. I was initially looking at getting the 300 a few months after I get my learners but since the 500 is also an approved bike I’m now considering getting the 500. Petrol is getting too funny and the abundance of cars in traffic these days are another issue. Such great value I can get it new and stay on it pretty much it’s whole lifetime. They’re quite versatile and they do look very lovely. You just sold this bike to me hahahaha!
Great review. I own one. I love its character. Great for just a lazy, enjoyable ride, or something a little more agressive if you so desire. Pretty impressive performance for a 500. It would be interesting to drag it against a competitor's 650/750+. I think it would fair pretty well up to 60-70 mph. Keep these great reviews coming. Love the country lanes you guys have over there. Gotta be careful watching for oncoming curve crowders though. Stay safe and enjoy!
Great review mate - loved it and the Bike. Looking to make this my first Bike and I'm 6ft ... I've heard of others my height and greater riding this bike with no problems. The blank canvas for Mods is a big reason to want this Bike as well as the price tag and quality of Honda's name behind it.
Thanks for this. Wife's sister is looking to learn, and was taken by this little thing at the Excel show last week. Mostly because she could flat-foot it, but it's nice to see that's not all there is in its favour. Might have to get down to your local Honda emporium when she starts learning - not been there for a few years.
This bike desperately needs an aftermarket exhaust..you can barely hear the thing when it's running..and like you said..very customizable..great job by Honda on this redo of the line.
ugh that stupid speedo, whenever i ride, it drives me nuts, why oh why did they put a rectangular display on a round housing??? ive been looking for an affordable replacement but because its digital, its either really expensive or theres no guarantee it will be compatible. i love the bike, everything about it suits me well but jesus do i hate the design of the electronics on it (rectangle on round instrument display, cheapo headlight, clunky/ugly rear light, no integrated gear indicator, hard to read the display on bright sunny days, backwards turn indicator/horn layout)but honestly its a great bike for the price for someone who likes the cruiser style but cant afford the big toys (like me)
Test Rode one back in the summer and had great fun on it .as i suffers ducks disease . its a near perfect fit for me and yes i nearly bought one as a second bike
Really crazy watching you drive on the opposite side like that! But Really good review, at first i kinda wasn't a fan of the new Rebel design but after watching this I can say that it's starting to grow on me! That 500 looks Fun! 👌
Great video. Had mine since August and love it. Easy to add and change little things, great for a newbie like me. What mic and camera set-up do you have, sound is clear, I like it! 🖒
Great review Mr Fish. Am currently just running on a CBT but am over 25 so looking at doing Direct Access this year. As the cruiser style bike would suit my journeys and the type of bike I like, this will deffo be on my list to test ride thanks to your review! :)
I like most of the bike, but the tank, it just looks funny to me. Could be how high it sits in comparison to the bars and seat, or it could just be my own personal biases against honda nit picking the little things so my brain doesn't have to like it. Good first impression vid.
Nice review thank you I'm getting next month the 2020 cmx500 in blue all the issues fixed suspention seat confier even tho it was already confortable enough for a 4h ride round display with gear indicator And led and slipper clutch i can't wait coming from a 2005 yamaha fz6 600cc

It shouldn’t be costly at all, these 500 engines don’t require to remove any camshafts for shims replacement, plus the access on the rebel its even better.
I still like the 500F Having sat on the in the shop. More colour chimes available too. the 500 rebel is nice don't get me wrong, but the 500F is more practical for me 😄
Not something I would buy but looks quite nice. ABS is a good thing and you won't even notice it in normal riding situations even if you are being a bit naughty :)

Instruments speedo should be analogue. Actually a pair of analogue dials would be nicer with the other telling your the revs and what gear you are in.

Deep South it looks poor and well as being quiet
There are some nice slip ons available now with a nice sound. Bike sounds great with better exhaust. Haven't seen a full system yet.

Good review.
Did you feel any vibrations while on the freeway.
Great video. Any idea if the costly valve clearance is still required on the first 600mile service? (It was on the CB500)
Premises187 I don’t remember a costly first service when I had my 500x , so I couldn’t tell you sorry mate

1st Service (600 mi.) is only Oil Change and Chain Tension check according to my manual. If that helps any.
That was only the first batch.
Tryin to decide between this and a Yamaha xv950r ...
Very different bikes , try both
I pick mine up sat 9/6. Can’t wait
Do you like it
Talk of a 1000cc version next year maybe Africa twin engine ?
i want one but here in Brazil that is not sold
Do you think with a more comfortable seat fitted and some panniers/top box this would be ok for longer distances/touring?
I still like the 500F

Great review. Thank you.
no gunna lie, I kinda want one lol
EN187 I want one as well , make a good project..
I am 5,9 will it fit my sice ¿?
Ther Deuxx probably, go and sit in one
I am 5"7 with 30 inseam and it's perfect for me
Honda Zit would be an accurate name for it. Fugly as they come
I don't have to live with it...I live in the USA so I'm not forced to buy ABS.
@B. Toff if safety was my primary concern I wouldn't be riding a motorcycle to start with.
