Don’t pop the door lock switch up like he does. There’s a small screw from underneath that holds it to the door panel. You have to remove the door panel with the switch still attached and then disconnect it from the back once you have the door panel loose.
I wish I had found this before I went to the mechanic. I said it needed a regulator. They said they would 'have a look.' $500, for motor, door switch, etc and THEN they say 'oh, apparently the regulator is bad too' so it STILL didn't work. I went to autozone, got the part, put it in in about 20 minutes, and the hardest part was getting the panel back on straight. Thank you so much.
You saved my bacon today. The window regulator broke on a rainy night. I was able to replace it the same night thanks to your video and O’reillys being open late.
I watched this video and did the in 15 minutes. Thank you. Tools: t20 bit, 10mm, 7mm, flathead, Phillips, Tip: the window switches do not snap in. Do not pull them out as suggested. There are 5 7mm screws on the back of the door panel remove them and remove the whole handle and switch assembly then use needle nose pliers to separate the switches from the armrest. There is 2 7mm screws attaching the window switches to the door panel. And a snap clip attaching thr switches to the armrest itself.. Do not break these by just pulling. Thanks again. I understand yours was broken so backwards engineering removal was futile.
You guys are the absolute best! You guys save me probably about $500 minus the price of the part and gas I had to spend to go pick it up at Autozone. I had the part replaced at the dealership about 20 years ago and I spent $500 for them to do it. Thank you very much from the bottom of my heart.
Watched last night and replaced this morning. Worked exactly as you explained. Thank you! It helps to NOT leave the keys in the ignition. Had to recharge the battery in order to get the window to drop down low enough for me to loosen the clamps on the window (ugh). I bought the entire kit even though I thought it was just the regulator or motor. Turns out one of the cables had completely broken. Kit cost me about $75 bucks at Oreilly's. Shop said they would do it for about $350-$400. Saved enough to enjoy some good bourbon this Memorial Day weekend. You rock.
Thank you, thank you, thank you, ordered a motor last summer, finally had time to research and replaced it in 20 minutes! Thank you for all the information!
Great instructions. Also, your terminology made me remember the great hooky do shortage of the early 2000s. It was a bleak time when there was little hope. Then like a miracle, GM released the new version, the hooky doodle. Good times.
Super easy video to follow. I had someone to replace my regulator for me only to find out they either did something wrong (which I doubt) or the part I bought was no good...bought a second regulator and replaced it myself after I spent more money thinking it was the switch sense I had just replaced the regulator...long story short had I done it myself the first time I could saved 300 bucks and not rode around with window taped up for almost a month. Thanks for the east to follow video.
See that screw hole in the side of the switch panel before he takes it off? That is from someone not taking the door panel off first to get the bolt out of the bottom of the switch panel, and then someone drilled a wood screw into the side to get some kind of a mounting going again. Once you break it of like this guy in this video just showed you how to do, it will not stay on anymore and you will have to resort to glue, epoxy, duct tape, non-factory designed bolts and/or screws. ONLY the 1999-2002 Full size GM trucks are made to pry up and out to get this panel off. 2003 to 2006 and 2007 Classic body trucks and SUV's have a screw with a 7mm bolt head you can only get to from taking the door panel off first. REPEAT: 2003 and newer; door panel off first, unplug the switches, then remove the one screw on the bottom. OR just leave the switch panel on the door panel if you don't have to replace any switches.
PRO TIPS: 1-loosen off the window clamps before installing the new regulator into the door. 2-You don’t have to remove the inner door handle. It’s not in the way of anything. 3-you can fit the switch panel through the opening in the door panel. This way you won’t risk breaking any connectors (these trucks are 20 years old) Other than that. It’s a good video. But name the size of the bolts you’re removing and show each step. Most people come here to learn how to do it themselves
1. mine was already loose. 2.yes, leave the door handle on, just use some painters tape to hold the plastic out of the way. 3.i agree, switch panel fits through. 4. don't over tighten the window clamp, or you'll be using the one off your old unit.
Excellent Demonstration! Thank you! I will be replacing mine on my 1999 Silverado LS. After this video, I am very very confident I will get this done with flying colors. Thank you again! Do you realize how inconvenient it has been to drive with the Driver side window hoisted in the fixed up position for a few years?
I used this for my 1999 GMC Sierra 2500 SLE. My door is a little different than this one, and my switch panel is different too. Got it done though. My window still goes up a little slow. Hopefully when the -45C weather hits, it won't completely stop like it did last winter.
For information on parts I ordered a GM original equipment motor from Rock Auto (made by bosch) and a Continental Brand regulator, the window runs up and down fine no issues. One bullshit design feature of this motor is the three screws to mount it are wood style screws going into plastic holes on the motor housing, the one mounting it to truck door has an actual steel thread insert which is the proper way, the bean counters never fail to amaze me on how cheap they can get over a few cents.
I use a lever release suction cup on bottom outside of the glass to hold it up. Even a phone holder glass mount cup or a gps suction mount works great 😉 Sure is a whole lotta hooky doos 😂 great video 👍
just purchased a regulator for my 02 avlanche from you, l have a question, other than the door panel being different than mine, is there anything else different or is it pretty much the same as l see on this video ??

I got installed but my question was at the bottom of the window was already rudder and where a bolt could go through. Basically, I am guessing this was a factor motor. My question do I need to removed factor rubber on glass. I got it over it, but I had to loosen the bolt completely out.
see you broke the screw thing under the window buttons you shouldnt have too that off the door panel . I did and then noticed I broke mine to next time I will really watch and judge at the same time to make sure the guy know for sure he knows what he is doing maybe someone else already commented on this too. I will read the comments next time too.
I like this video. It’s actually the one I’m using to replace my regulator. But come on man 😂 you tried to play it off when you broke that bolt off on the front of the switch panel. You gotta remove the door panel. Then there is a bolt on the under side of the switch panel that you gotta take out so the switch comes loose from the door. I caught that mistake before I broke my expensive window switch. But others might not and it will cause them to damage their vehicle.
My window was stuck half down. I found out that the key is to get access to the tightening bolts or screws on both sides of the regular that clamp on to the window glass. Depending on the positioning of the window, you should be able to get to them from the bottom if the window is all the way down. A 2nd pair of hands might help to hold the glass while you do that.
I used this today to replace the motor in my 2002 Silverado HD. You saved me hundred of dollars! Couldn't believe how easy it was!
So simple and easy to follow. My first time replacing an entire assembly only took 15 minutes. Great instructional video.

Drinking game: take a shot every time he says hookie-doo or anything with the suffix “ie-doo”
Bonus points for anytime he makes it a plural

Thanks for being clear on connecting the window - some are not as good showing the window setting with the clamps.
GREAT video, thank you! During reassembly, put the door handle plastic on before you drop the long screw (under the armrest) into the door... (10.12)

This guy is AMAZING!!!
Thanks for the help. IT's all done.

Sure is a whole lotta hooky doos 😂 great video 👍
That hole switch assembly will fit through the hole in the door panel.
Thanks man worked perfectly
Thank you so much, this video really helped me
I need just the bolts should I just go to a junk yard or try to match them somewhere?
If it’s for the passenger side do we need a right side regulator or one works for both sides
driver side & passenger side are different regulators, they will only work on their respective side
I followed all of ur instructions, the window was working once I put it in. Now the window won't work again. What's ur thoughts?
Wow mine never seem to go that smooth and easy
just purchased a regulator for my 02 avlanche from you, l have a question, other than the door panel being different than mine, is there anything else different or is it pretty much the same as l see on this video ??
+ajslam41 Thanks for checking us out. The install should be the same or similar.
Video was definitely helpful!
Fantastic. Thank you.
Very well done video, thankyou
What do you do with the window while removing the regulator?
Grateful for this video! Was perfect.
Just bought new windows and regulators. This should be easy.
Great stuff! Easy to follow. Subscribed :)
Great job and excellent video

Great how to video.

Nice video.
So what if my motor died when it was down and i cant unscrew the clamps to the window?
Great video bro 👍💪
Super helpful
Thank you sir
This is the whole regulator assy😮
I was able to replace it but window goes down but not up any help ?

excellent video, thank you.
I'm glad I didn't just try this procedure before watching this video. It would have been complete failure.
Thank you for all of your great walkthru videos
Thank you very much with your help I made mine clear and easy!
Thank you
Thank you!
Thanks man.
Great vid
what is the wire at the bottom of the door that isn’t connected to anything for?
My window is stuck in the down position. Am I going to be able to get the bolts out?

Thx
Thanks !
You are awesome
What about the speaker
Is this what you need when your window barely wants to roll up anymore?
How do you know it’s the regulator and not the motor?
What if the window is stuck down
What if window is down?
This is different from my 2002 Silverado.
Holy hookydoos Batman
Still rocking the manual crank. No motor to fall over. 🤣
My window does go up
hooky-doos...hahahaha... good video
