    Decorators multitool e.g. Purdey: flat scraper, spreader, circular profile scraper (great to remove old finishes from handles etc.) nail puller, paint/varnish lid remover, hammer (end of handle to replace tin lids etc.) pointed corner scraper, mini pry bar (removes rusted washers/annulus rings etc). The combination square, how is the fit between the ruler and the thingy?, I have tried to buy a few (can't find them in Norway for some reason), and the fit is always loose, so I wonder if that is how they are, or should it be a tight fit. (like, not sideways wobble etc)
    And, how do you make ca-glue last?, always after 2-3 uses, then the glue is either dried or not possible to open again.. (user error I guess)
    And axminster, how are they delivering to Norway?, or do we have Norwegian suppliers of your stuff?

    • @achappel
      @achappel  4 года назад

      the combination square has a screw that you need to tighten, once that's tight everything should be super snug. With the CA glue it's super important to screw the cap on fully every time, and I've many times not screwed it on fully and ended up with the cap being glued to the bottle :P Axminster are great, they ship to Norway, you'll have to pay the import fees and vat though... thanks for watching :))

    • @Neslekkim
      @Neslekkim 4 года назад

      @@achappel Would be better with local vendors, or that they handle vat, will try and see.
      But, the combination square, yes the screw is ok, but the "track" that the ruler lies into, is always much wider than the ruler is thick, so it want to wobble sideways, will try to locate them again, and post a picture somewhere.

    • @shanekartz
      @shanekartz 4 года назад

      @@achappel If you want your CA glue to last a long time, here are two helpful tips. 1) Always store it in the refrigerator with the cap tight. 2) Do not spray the activator anywhere near the open bottle of glue. I recommend you put the cap on the glue before you apply activator. Believe it or not, the activator molecules travel quickly through the air and can start the chain reaction on the glue in the bottle. Just think of how quickly the odour of the activator reaches your nose.

      @joesmith4494 4 года назад

      canadian here. mostly i use robertson as torx is far more costly. at least here. torx is good but the price makes it a less attractive option. to be true i use inch standard self tapping 7/16 fasteners but its very application specific. canada drives in metric but builds in fractions. i use metric for small things but thats because i have centimeters tattooed on my left index finger. that is my most used tool

    • @blahorgaslisk7763
      @blahorgaslisk7763 4 года назад

      Unfortunately Robertson is really uncommon outside of Canada. While it's very popular to hate on Phillips I think most problems come from people using the wrong driver or not replacing them when they are worn out. But even so a marginal Torx is still a way more reliable and stronger than even the best Phillips screw and bit.
      Another standard that's very common is the old Hex socket. The drivers are often reffered to as Allen wrenches. While these are common they are also actually mechanically weaker than both Roberts and Torx, especially when used for small screws.
      The real strength of the Torx system is that it's immediately obvious when you try to use the wrong size driver, and it's the same with Robertson. Phillips on the other hand you can usually use a driver one size smaller, and to the casual user it's not immediately obvious just how it damages the screw head. Another problem is that you can even try to force a Pozidriv, Supadriv or JIS into a Phillips head. In fact JIS screws are pretty common, but most of the time people doesn't have the correct driver and just use a Phillips screwdriver often not even knowing that JIS is another standard. Almost all of those problems can be avoided by using something like Torx or Robertson.

    • @rickypacheco
      @rickypacheco 4 года назад

      I was introduced to Robertson much later in life. It’s incredibly strong. Driving 5” screws is easy one handed. And the screw holds onto the head without magnets. Screws can be reused multiple times and quality bits last years. A tribute to a great Canadian invention. It’s a pity it’s not more available worldwide.

    i guess this is sort of a hybrid tools video? drill bits imply power tools. maybe have a manual tools foundation video and a power tools foundation video. by foundation, i mean the underlying tools or components that are versatile and possibly multifunction that are the universal basis for what you want to do.
    for power tools, the primary foundation of cordless is the battery. i am hoping the battery standards becomes universal / industry-wide so that you buy 1 battery for any cordless power tool. i know there are european efforts (i forget the name of the organization) with metabo as a member, to make this happen, but not everyone is onboard since proprietary batteries are more profitable to many manufacturers. thus is how north america gets messed up with no standardization due to profit rather than building on a consensus of standards.

    Irwin quick grip clamps can also be used as a spreader because the fixed clamp side can be removed and put on the opposite way

    Hey, awesome content. You missed the marking steel pin in #5 combination square. It's really handy when working on wood and steel. It's at the bottom of the handle, you unscrew it to use it!

      Also, the combo square has a level (I don't think he covered that.)

    Great video and perfect timing! My mother in law just asked me what I want for my birthday, so a tool which is not so costly is just perfect. Although I already have most of these, the ca glue would have been for many projects which where hard to clamp perfect. Also I don't have a measure tape yet. The mini plane also looks awesome. So thank you for the ideas!
    Regarding the combination square: It looks on the picture on amazon that it has it but you didn't mention: A marking needle. I love that thing on mine. Always there to make a mark. It is more precise than any pencil and always there when I need it. My pencils use to hide from me anyway...
    Would love to see that kind of video for power tools too!
    Thank you!

    Vise grip pliers are awesome. They can often replace a clamp, you can use them to cut thin stock and if you need a hammer, they are sometimes heavy enough. (I do mostly metal work)

      For metal work i absolutely love them! Hopefully I'll get to do som more metalworking soon :) thanks for watching ;)

    I switched from utility blades to segmented blades a few years ago when the Samurai Woodworker talked about them. I hate standard utility blades now.
    As far as the blades themselves, the Olfa brand are the best I've used. Spendy, but worth it.
    However, I really like the DeWalt handle /holder, as it locks the blade securely, yet when you push on the slider there's nothing to loosen / tighten.

    This is probably one of the best lists I've seen for usefell tools. And most of them you'll use for all your projects. Also picked up on some uses I didn't know my tools could do. Awesome video! 😎

      I buy mine from Maxbo, so the MFT screws (made by hikoki)

      @LewiUberg 4 года назад

      I’ll check them out. For me it has mostly been biltema and essve, and some kreg screws.

    Personally, I find my exacto knife to be the tool I use the most. I just love it's precision and small form but that may just be because I work with smaller objects. Also, metric is definitely the best.

    Well in my top Ten List would be certainly a caliper, but depends on the work your doing. Would like if you do a vid about power tools

    I like the color grading in this video. WAs it graded or is this right out of camera? if right out of camera, which cam and color mode was it taken in. Just curious.

      Thanks :) jeah it's graded from v-log from a Panasonic gh5s ( the color grading is still a work in progress through)
