I keep scissors in the kitchen. My family would go into my quilting supplies and use my good fabric scissors. A big no, no. Moving everyday scissors to the kitchen was a good decision. Now I don't know how I got things done without them. I love this strategy you discussed today. I found limiting what I was looking for kept me from feeling so overwhelmed. My hardest category is my wishlist or fantasy self things. But I'm learning that I always had my photos organized in photo books. Scrapbooks can be so beautiful to look at but I don't like the process of scrapbooking. It is just too overwhelming for me. That's getting a major declutter next week. This week I am decluttering picture frames. My house is so light, cleaner and clutter free without a thousand pictures sitting around. Thanks for inspiring me to do better with your channel. You're the best!

Scissors in the kitchen is the only way to function for me!! lol and YES fantasy self items are SO tough!!! I got rid of my sewing machine after a while, realizing that I just wasn't going to get into it!!! I had HOPED to love it like my mom, but it just wasn't my thing!

Your idea of a "gentle declutter" is SO much better for me and others who are easily put off by the more ruthless approach promoted on so many channels. The thought of going through my home like a bulldozer is very off-putting. Great reminder to USE the sentimental things we've been keeping for "special occasions" or to "hand down to future generations." If the pieces aren't used by us, they're meaningless to our children and grandchildren!
Thanks so much for your videos...always look forward to new episodes!

I agree that it is important to USE your sentimental possessions whether practical or impractical to do so! I have started doing this recently and it is bringing me so much joy as I think of the person who gave it to me or who it belonged to. No more cupboards and closets filled with items I'm trying to simply protect! Thank you for such a helpful video!!

Awesome. This will be great for my mother. She already agreed to let me help her (We discussed the things ya know. Like I don’t want this massive burden to deal with all at once when she’s gone, Swedish Death Cleaning, etc lol). I enjoy being ruthless and rage purging and running through my whole house like a buzz saw. I rather like the huge way my house feels better within a few days or so. My mother, however, probably won’t like that at all. 😅😅
I’m at a loss for what to call it. It’s already cute tho.
    Mental Monday
    Trash Tuesday
    Wish Wednesday
    Thoughtless Thursday
    FOMO Friday
    Sentimental Saturday

I think the phrase “Mental Monday” is hilarious tho. 😂😂 I could make some great jokes about that. Bcuz I’m already crazy. Lol.

Love the using sentimental items. I kept "saving" a couple quilts that my great-grandmother made. Then, I realized she would be really sad to know they were just sitting in a closet, hidden away. They were made to be used! So now I put them on my bed from time to time and remember her every time I see them! 😊

Another brilliant video... I love using alliteration too! I've made so many alliterative lists for things to do each day of the week for self care, what laundry items to wash, cleaning the bathroom, the kitchen, and a general list for cleaning other rooms. I'll type that one out because it includes decluttering on the first day if needed to make sure everything gets picked up off the floor/surfaces and put away:
M = Manage inventory & Move items to their proper homes (remove trash, take dishes to the kitchen sink, put shoes/clothes away, etc.)
T = Top to bottom dusting and cleaning
W = Windows (plus any other glass/mirrors) + Wipe to disinfect any high-touch areas (handles, switches, etc.)
T = This & That (varies depending on what decor or extras like exercise equipment are in the room)
    F = Floor

Great advice! I learned something from a friend who is an artist. I accidentally dusted a vintage mermaid figurine off my mantle. I was so sad. She suggested that I make it into a piece of art! I had a vintage wooden printers tray that I displayed my beach glass finds in. I added her head and fin to it and I love it!

The fantasy self can be so hard to declutter sometimes. BUT, reminding myself of what I really have time for and will actually do, also saves me from buying a lot of stuff too! Knowing that I will never actually use it.
When it comes to sentimental, I think one of the HUGE things that really hangs us up, is when you have items, let's say, that belong to a late relative. You found it in a box, but you have no idea the story behind it. But you feel guilty getting rid of it bc you have subconsciously made it sentimental now.

Ahh the sugar cookie ! When my son was in grade 2 I made heart shaped sugar cookies for Valentines Day ! They were so pretty all pink and red with sparkles on them! So when he got home I asked how everyone liked them -" they were great Mom!- Best frisbees ever!" Frisbee? Sure Mom - couldn't eat them - they were as hard as bricks - so we figured we would use them as frisbees at recess! Cookie cutters were sent to Goodwill that weekend!

I'm still watching your video but I had to write you before I forget. Sentimental Saturday is hard. I have alot of items from my grandma and can't get rid of them now but I did get them out of boxes and have them on display. I'm also giving the silverware to the VA tomorrow because I decided to use the silverware my parents gave me for my HS graduation gift 47 years ago. We have been using them only for maybe 3 holidays a year. We use them daily now and I love it.
Also can you tell me the name of the plastic zipper bags you use. I've looked on Amazon and can't find them.

I keep a pair of regular scissors in my crock with my other kitchen utensils that sits on my stove.
Wonderful tip to USE those sentimental items! My dad had a hard time letting go of sentimental or useful items from his parents’ house. When my parents passed, they had a whole box of drinking glasses from his parents ‘ house that they could have been using instead of buying a random mismatched glass when one broke.
