    This song was a huge hit when it came out everybody really connected to the lyrics, the music is phenomenal. But here we are in 2022 and tell me if this song isn’t as meaningful a more meaningful than it was back then! It will never get old it’ll only be more as we go along

    When the lead vocalist started playing the harmonic in the middle of the song, it was the guitarist on the left that sang the words "He's my brother". They did this in the live version. On the album those lyrics and the harmonica were both by the lead singer, but over-dubbed, which cannot physically be done live. Nicer reaction by the way.

    Love this song. Our country and the world needs it so much more now than ever. And you know, I've seen several people react to it so far, but I had never noticed he's still singing when the harmonica starts.
    Now that I think about it, this sounds exactly the same as the recorded version of the song, and, back in those days, it wasn't uncommon for even the best, most famous, most successful singers and bands to lip synch their songs when they performed them on TV. Somehow, nobody noticed, and it wasn't considered a bad thing, just the way it was done. And when you think about it, this was before the internet, so a TV appearance was the biggest chance they had to sell a single to record buyers, so they wanted it to be perfect. They didn't want to chance any forgotten lyrics, froggy throats, or noises from backstage or from the studio audience, so they usually lip synched it. Also, in the early days, a lot of TV shows were live, so there would be even more of a risk of making mistakes.
    But I don't think any of that takes away from how good the song is or how talented the Hollies were.

  • @krkhns
    @krkhns 2 года назад

    The story originally comes from the leader of the Free Church of Scotland, James Wells. Its from his late 1800s book "Parables of Jesus". One of the stories is about a little girl carrying her sick baby brother to town to see a doctor. Along the way, she is stopped five times and asked if the child was heavy. "He nay heavy. He mi brither". But, no one asks the girl if she needs help. In 1918, a religious publication by Ralph Trine, asks if people remember the story of the little girl carrying her baby brother who said "he isn't heavy, he's my brother". In the 1920's, another publication did a story on Boys Town called "He ain't heavy, he's my brother". In 1948, Boys Town adopted the motto "He ain't heavy, Father, he's my brother". In the late 60s, songwriter Bob Russell was talking with his son-in-law, who had spent time at Boys Town right after they adopted the motto. He told the story to Russell, who used it as inspiration for the song.

    Been watching these reaction channels and hardly any of them react to Mull of kintyre by Paul McCartney and Wings. It was such a huge hit. To this day I believe it's still the biggest selling non charity single of all time in the UK.. He wrote it on his remote farm in Scotland where he had retreated after the messy break up of the Beatles. He went there to save his sanity as he feared he was having a nervous breakdown.

    Here are two more artists that are so iconic to rock n roll. "James Taylor & Carole King - You've Got A Friend (BBC in Concert, 11/13/71)" Both are wonderful storytellers and were responsible for some hugely popular hits by other artists, because they were such prolific songwriters themselves. Fun Fact: The song "You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Born Woman" the lyrics was written by Carole King, but the song was first recorded by Aretha Franklin in (1967) for Atlantic Records. Since you received so many great suggestions for more Hollies songs, I thought making another suggestion would be better. Nice reaction👍

    There are kinda two sides to the Hollies. There's the '70s Hollies, that includes this song and others like "Long Cool Woman (In A Black Dress)," and "The Air That I Breathe." And those are great songs, no question about it. But to me, when I think of the Hollies, the first songs that come to my mind are the ones from the '60s Hollies -- songs like "Bus Stop," "Carrie Ann," "On A Carousel," and "Look Thru Any Window." One of the members of the Hollies during this early era was Graham Nash, who would leave the band and join up with Stephen Stills and David Crosby to form the supergroup, "Crosby, Stills and Nash" (and later, "Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young" when Neil Young joined them). Listening only to the '70s Hollies music is like listening only to the Saturday Night Fever era of Bee Gees music. You really have to go back and listen to their '60s music to get a true read on just how versatile and talented these guys are.

    Most of these songs on these shows were the bands Lip-synching because the Record Companies demanded it, they knew the recording was where their money was at, and one bad refrain could cost them millions in sales. So, if a song was new, you usually got the lip-sync.
