Hi there, yes that’s a good way to make sure they have food. But the problem with leaving supers on is if you want to treat for varroa, you are contaminating the super for future use. Yes you can use oxalic but I’m still not happy to even leave for that, “own preference” 🐝
@berintanbees we remove the supers, and use apivar around 2nd week of August, pop one super body designated for treatment period and on through to spring, we OA in December. Come spring, we remove melt the wax and soak body and frames. We're only hobbyist beeks, so not too much hassle as we only have a few hives. Might not be plausible for larger or commercial apiaries, due to time etc

We always leave our bees a full super of honey, we've never had to feed through winter and no starvation loses.
