As a life-long hockey fans from Olympia, Wa. Kiddos to BCHL! As a teen, I drove to Seattle , 60 miles on a school night, to watch the Seattle Totems of the old WHL. Then to see the Breakers/Thunder birds of the new WHL. Love minor league junior hockey! Keep it up!
I work for the BCHL League as a media relations. I go to every arena and make sure their videos and media booths don't have any problems and if they need to be fixed
As a hockey official watching this, this video was amazing. It's tough for Hockey Canada officials to go to the BCHL because we can't do unsanctioned hockey. This is definitely a sign for Hockey Canada to make a move. Thank you for providing amazing value!
The Hockey Canada Rule for hockey officials is that we can only do sanctioned hockey (Minor, AJHL, WHL, CHL etc.). Since the BCHL is not a part of Hockey Canada, it is deemed as "unsanctioned hockey" which means that if Hockey Canada officials decide to officiate in the BCHL, that's the only league they can do.@@canadianshield5143
@@canadianshield5143 You don’t assign yourself to games, all it takes is the Hockey Canada or Hockey Alberta or Hockey BC committee to tell the assignor do not assign that person to any sanctioned hockey games.
I kinda wish that the AJHL didn't respond so harshly out of spite and allow those 5 teams to finish off the season. It was giving your notice to your employer and your employer turns around and fired you without the opportunity to finish the season. I'm glad that the BCHL allowed the 5 displaced AJHL teams to play the remainder of the season.
@@MrGamman3yt give them enough heads up and allow the ajhl to accept expansion applicants. The Merritt Centennials made the announcement of leaving the BCHL for the KIJHL after initially going on a leave of absence in 24/25
What really hurts are BC players.... they now have no local options to develop and try to make a career as a player... very few will be able to gain a meaningful slot over the massive number of imports these clubs will fill there line ups with. This will hurt BC payers development as some may quit rather than try to make teams in other provinces. I feel this shift will grow over next 10 years.. far fewer players from BC will be represented on NHL clubs. Perhaps in coming years a new sanctioned JR A league will start up in BC. I can see a demand for it.
It does make it more difficult, BC does have a solid youth program to develop players so it may force them to work harder to make sure they still earn the spots. I think the big thing is the BCHL is becoming much for competitive to be like the USHL and just ave a power house league which Canada needs for Canadian players. This just means BC players need better education on how good of an option other leagues are and to take a chance and go play. They will still have plenty of opportunities just maybe not their first choice.

Now it seems to be all about $. I think this is overall bad for the game....too many options , too many leagues all over the place. I know I sound like Don Cherry but Canada lets so many players from all over the world in and we should be focusing on having places for our kids to play. You can always set up more tournaments ect.
The ncaa needs to allow major junior players to play college hockey now that there is the NIL. Making a few hundred bucks a month is a drop in the bucket compared to what ncaa football and basketball players are being paid. This would force most of the tier 3 system in the US to fold (because they would be obsolete) and it would make junior hockey something you actually earned instead of just paid for.
Who's saying that they want the best of the best in the world? USHL has import rules and they are an amazing league....How is this promoting Canadian hockey in Canada when these teams will import players from anywhere. All countries have import rules Sweden, Germany, Czech for a reason...promoting their countries players.
Yes absolutely, the BCHL may look into having import rules but right now their focus is having the top Jr A league for recruitment to the next level wether that be NCAA or Pro.
Agree - there's a case to be made for an east/west division - equal(ish) number of remaining AJ teams vs SJ.... what about MJ? I speculate that this will be a REAL big eye opener for remaining teams in AJ along with both SJ and MJ... merge/solidarity and strengthen (perhaps).
@fedsie07 For sure. This is a big concern for the existing owners & players of AJ teams in regards to scouting and attracting high level talent. The AJ, for the longest time, has only seen 2 teams in the finals and hasn't looked as competitive as other leagues. I can't help but to think that the AJ and hockey Canada could've fixed this much sooner and completely avoided this.
As a junior hockey fan I need some help figuring this out. The top Canadian born players go to the CHL, unless they want to play US college hockey, is that right? because US college considers CHL a pro league. So then you you can go play USHL, BCHL or AJHL ect. Also if you aren't good enough to play CHL you go Junior A? ( again, your provincial junior A league or head to the USHL?) Hockey Canada has all these leagues so that Canadian kids can play and be developed in their own province ect. Was the BCHL upset that CHL teams can draft kids from across western Canada and they can only get players from BC? Now if you look at the BCHL rosters, most teams have way more players from out of province, along with more Americans and international players. I guess what I'm getting at is hockey canada and it's leagues were created to help develop Canadian players and give them places to play but instead it seems the leagues and owners just want the best players they can get. How is this good for hockey in Canada? In my opinion it will just create a smaller group of high calibre Canadian players while we develop players from the US ect. More kids chasing the hockey dream all over the place, but I guess thats todays world. What does this all mean for the future of the CHL too?
BCHL had many other issues with hockey canada rules as well it wasn't just the draft or anything. It will make the league more difficult to play in forsure. IT just means since the competition will go up it will also increase the amount of exposure to the next level for everyone in the league.
I'm not saying this will happen, and this is only my humble opinion, so please take this on a grain of salt. But if there's one thing that might make the BCHL more legit, is closing a deal with Fanatics.

Well Brooks.. you got used to being the big dogs in the yard for a long time because of the way you conducted business. But now you are in a league where everybody behaves the same. In a few years you are just going to be like a mud ball in water,nothing special and all mixed in. And to the other four teams... have fun driving. That's a lot of miles. 😊 PS. That's a nice way of thanking the AJHL Blackfalds for letting you in the league a few years back. Good stuff.

Why can't you officiate? Hockey Canada cannot tell you what to do with your time.

There is a chance that happens. Would the SJ teams be strong enough to compete with the AJ teams.

As a Brooks Bandits fan, I am mixed about this information, but we’ll see how it plays out, for the AJHL is cancelling game to the five teams. So…
Those teams will be playing in the BCHL for the rest of the season to not penalize the players.

Can you go from OJHL to USHL or NAHL ? Does your OJHL coach have to release you
You can go but they don’t have to release you as they are with hockey Canada and you would be leaving to go to USA hockey which a different entity
Don't have to release you, and since NAHL and USHL are sanctioned you can also go back to the OJHL if your not happy.
