I think the reason why Dementus f**ked up in this scene is he used specifically people loyal to Octoboss, and who he cared for. Had he used other people loyal to him, Octoboss would've still not liked it, but wouldn't have left him since Octoboss wouldn't have lost any boys.
I wonder if it was intentional, though. Based on the interaction with the Mortiflyer, they seem to be a semi-independent group within the horde; and based on the War Rig fight they seem one of the most effective fighting units in the Wasteland; and the Octoboss also acts closer to a colleague than a subordinate at points. All of this suggests that theoretically, regardless how useful he is, the Octoboss is also the closest to a potential rival authority in the horde. Thus, while ideally Dementus would probably have preferred taking Gastown with the initial Trojan Horse ploy, by making sure the Mortiflyers would be the ones to take the hits if forced to "make it real" (while his own most loyal troops are safe inside) he can whittle down his rivals strength a bit while maintaining a certain deniability.
That's the point. He saw that the first guy he picked was more loyal to Octo than to him. That makes Octo a threat to his leadership. No it hasn't lol. If a movie costs 200 million budget you add another 150 million for marketing. Then theaters take half of all sales so the break even is 700 million. That means the movie needs to gross over 700 million in theater sales to make a profit. This movie was pulled from theaters after 2 weeks. Even on a 100 million budget it can never make its money back. Streaming won't make the money needed and the online sales have been dismal.
Didn't both Bladerunner movies flip despite critical acclaim? But slowly clawed back money over the years then Amazon come along with their big pockets and commission a series?

@SmeagolTheGreat decent analogies, however youll notice that Dementus is not a statutory rapist like Joe, and that he treats a child in his company better than some of his rabble.
4:37 Thats the same actor who played Ace from Fury Road! Ace was the war boy who hung from the drivers side door of the war rig in Fury Road, who yelled, "Why can't you stop! What have you done!" before falling. I recognize his face.
When Dementus says "Its destiny. We are indeed a land of opportunity" I heard that as very close to the voice of the late great (non-Australian, he was a Kiwi) John Clark!
I really liked the Guardian with his painting and such. A Renaissance man in a wasteland, an antithetical allusion to Dementus, perhaps, with a similar appearance of hairstyle and Dementus filching his vest afterward as well.
3:30 - 3:40 is a cool scene, good music as it fits with the theme of industrial and then camera panning up gives a sense of wealth/power amidst a wasteland
anyone notice the leader of Gastown can be seen in Fury road as a beggar when Immortan Joe releases the water the first time? Fantastic little detail that means nothing unless you've seen Furiosa
I felt that Dementus was supposed to mirror Genghis Khan or Attila the Hun, ruthless and skilled generals leading vast hordes but no one ever talks about Attila or Genghis as administrators, because they weren't, they knew how to conquer but not to rule. Same with Dementus.
Yeah, Dementus and his Biker Horde is actually a surprisingly accurate depiction of steppe hordes. Not so much a single unified army so much as a confederation of groups with varying levels of loyalty to a central overlord. If anything the least accurate part is how most of his horde sticks around until the end. In real life, most of the horde would bail at the first sign of weakness.
Love The look of Gas Town, an oil refinery city, i think the water is either oil or Gasoline which is a cool detail, one thing i love about this movie is the merits of getting to see Gas Town, The Bullet Farm and The Green Place
I like how they cuddle the puppies. Even the organic mechanic does. He cooked one of the dogs though in the last parts of the movie but Im thinking it must have died during the war.
I like how this shows that Damentus is not a full ruler of the gang. The other person in horns the Octo Boss is also a ruler of the gang. A big portion of Damentus gang is under the rule of the Octo Boss. Would like a little back story on how he and Dementus met and teamed up. He seems like a very interesting character and holds significant power over a big part of the gang as a whole.
"The Gang" is not "The Gang." They're a loose confederation of three separate gangs who agreed to work together. The Octoboss and his Mortifyers are a distinct entity.
I take orders from the Octoboss. That scene shows you that Dementus’s gang is collection of gangs who have their own leaders and Dementus has convinced them to follow him.
fun fact, octoboss and his fellow men are all former SAS. Hence why he is visibly angry that his men are killed by dementus. They are actual brothers to him.
Octoboss is one of the most memorable character in the movie and you can tell how much he cared for his men that he gone rogue against Dementus orders.
Wow, they employed the Trojan Horse. A timetested battle arrangement that's never been done before in the history of humanity. Imagine if Gastown was SMART ENOUGH to only allow a truck to pass to the second gate after it was fully inspected in that middle area? How could they be this dumb?
Well, for starters, they probably are dumb. Not everyone is a tactician in the wasteland, especially if Joe's brother is focused on his bachelor pad painting. But you're also being a bit too harsh. They think their war brothers/friends are about to die. Obviously they're going to let them in immediately.
Not enough room/resources to make a second gate setup? Or the second gate might have been hit by a war rig that couldn't slow down well enough. Still, a section of loose sand for War Rigs to bottom out in might help. Similar to the runaway truck ramps we have today on interstate downhill slopes.
I think they’re more worried about losing the war rig. That is more valuable than its crew, and better to risk a few fake warboys getting inside where an army of guards could deal with them than keeping the gates shut and letting Immortan’s war rig stay in enemy hands. The problem was that Dementus hid soldiers in the tanker itself, and the fake war boys probably kept around the truck and didn’t act suspicious while the commandos did their work.
It's hilarious when you think about how Dementus was pissing people off throughout the entire movie. 😂 Some of his own crew turned on him, he couldn't run Gastown without the workers rioting against him, couldn't maintain a truce with Immortan Joe, made the worst enemy with Furiosa. Bro was a terrible leader.

How would they build and maintain such a huge facility in the middle of nowhere. Where does all the material come from and where do they get spare parts
It's a pre war refinery, so built before the wastes, and the materials are scavenged, joe shows initiative in recruiting experts implies ye may even have engineers to repair or replace machinery
@@queekheadtaker7327We saw how they teach engineering and mechanics in the Citadel. Both Joe and Dementus protect technically minded folk, neither are stupid. This was reinforced over and over.
@@topy706 the game whose canon is admittedly vague, does establish that gas town has a network of smaller refineries aiding in production. As for the citadel it's a terraforming machine made to make a lake after the war, it was probably designed with its isolation in mind, hell it probably was a lake. The fact that Joe has way more men and material in this film than the later hints that even a decade later the 40 day war devastated his army.
After having watched Fury Road for the first time, the first thought that popped up in my head was "why aren't there more action movies like this?". I don't think that there's more than maybe a handful movies that can match the brilliant mix of over the top action, epicness and visuals that Fury Road in particular presented.
It makes sense that this is what turned around the Mortiflyers and made them desert, Dementus exclusively used them for his diversion and then killed most of them. I'd be annoyed too.
I like how Dementus is all frontline show. He’s like a showman or WWE wrestler of the wasteland. Playing a character. It is both who he is and what he wants to be. The beauty of it is, it really works. Everyone feels great and moral is high. Even if they feel like shit, they see him in the front lines and get hyped. Very good.

It was cool that we got to see the bullet farm and gas town up close in this one!!! I wish we knew a tad more about the original ruler of gas town.
Same.
That's for the third installment. Mad Max: the wasteland.
He seems to be Immortans brother
@@mrvujadinovic9403 when Immortan Joe was a captain in the Australian army, his lieutenants became the sub leaders to his faction. It's in the tie in comics.

Actually, his dad was one of the bikers with the dog from MX 1.
When things go bonkers...you have to adapt
I really wish this movie didn't flop
I wouldn't call it a flop. It's slowly making money, it's already made back into what was put in. Mad max movies never really make a lot of money. But hopefully it'll make a little more, so that we can see another Mad Max film. But I do think it's a good film.
@@dontcare7086 From what I have seen and heard Furiosa has topped several streaming platforms and originally it stalled at the box office, but the rumours pan out taht it has actually made back just over what was its production cost. According to the numbers...
It's just a result of all the girlboss bullshit we have seen over last decade. Was surprisingly a great watch

I love the way dementus talks. Always shit like ''we are in the land of opportunity'' and using words like bossority and word burgers.
The leader of Gas town was like Da Vinci
John William Waterhouse - Hylas and the Nymphs
Dementus is the Joker of the Mad Max universe. Simply chaotic and unpredictable.
Yeah, I categorized him as chaotic evil, while Immortan is more lawful evil.
@SmeagolTheGreat decent analogies, however youll notice that Dementus is not a statutory rapist like Joe, and that he treats a child in his company better than some of his rabble.
It's not like he did it just for kicks, it was brutal but served a strategic purpose...
Dementus is the most cynical human being i have ever seen. Maybe only Obama is more so.
4:37 Thats the same actor who played Ace from Fury Road! Ace was the war boy who hung from the drivers side door of the war rig in Fury Road, who yelled, "Why can't you stop! What have you done!" before falling. I recognize his face.
Good catch! That guy was badass.
1:20 gotta love the wide shot. Only George Miller can make that beautiful
In the cimema I never noticed the huge battalion of bikes laying wait in the dunes.
When Dementus says "Its destiny. We are indeed a land of opportunity" I heard that as very close to the voice of the late great (non-Australian, he was a Kiwi) John Clark!
I really liked the Guardian with his painting and such. A Renaissance man in a wasteland, an antithetical allusion to Dementus, perhaps, with a similar appearance of hairstyle and Dementus filching his vest afterward as well.
i wish we could have seen more of the gastown owner. a creative artist rising to the top boss of a desert wasteland must have been one hell of a story
As an Australian, I can confirm, this happens on regular basis in Australia
Typical weekly petrol fill up run.

3:30 - 3:40 is a cool scene, good music as it fits with the theme of industrial and then camera panning up gives a sense of wealth/power amidst a wasteland
I don't know why, but when Dementus says "Questioning my authority..." it gives me Popeye vibes.
I thought the same exact thing 😂
He actually says "questioning my bossority!" Which is such an Aussie thing to say XD
He says "bossority."
Between Dr. Dementus and Proximus Caesar from KotPotA, this is becoming the year for charismatic movie villains with insane names and i am here for it
anyone notice the leader of Gastown can be seen in Fury road as a beggar when Immortan Joe releases the water the first time? Fantastic little detail that means nothing unless you've seen Furiosa
Ehh, questioning my authority. Perfect quote for a father of teenagers.
Questioning my bossaurity?
Bossority. Boss + Authority. It's not difficult.
Gengis did know how to administrate and his empire survived him by 200 years. Dementus is basically Attila

Dazzling spectacle of a saga for sure
Love The look of Gas Town, an oil refinery city, i think the water is either oil or Gasoline which is a cool detail, one thing i love about this movie is the merits of getting to see Gas Town, The Bullet Farm and The Green Place
I take orders from the Octoboss 🐙
Yeah…. Do what he says
3:04 when your mother applies the sun lotion on 9 yr old you
I like how this movie showed the War Rig's evolution to what it was in 'Fury Road'.
I like how they cuddle the puppies. Even the organic mechanic does. He cooked one of the dogs though in the last parts of the movie but Im thinking it must have died during the war.
*03:44** Say anything you want, but I think that Gastown Lord is a great artist even though he's copying from art book.*
An Ex Australian Military truck MACK, used as the Trojan Horse, love it😁👍
The Octoboss has the best voice. I feel it in my stones.
He voiced and mocapped Anubis in Gods of Egypt. Man has a fantastic voice.
Wow my man was not having it with dementus today.
All of the characters are so well written and layered. Goddamn I love this movie

The octopus is so angry. It‘s funny.😂
I genuinely feel like the Octoboss would be a better boss than Dementus
3:42 The artwork is titled "Hylas and the Nymphs" It was painted in 1896 by John William Waterhouse.
3:50 Alan Moore?
I love how he's using 3 bikes with no rider to pull a chariot.
fun fact, octoboss and his fellow men are all former SAS. Hence why he is visibly angry that his men are killed by dementus. They are actual brothers to him.
4:05 dude must smoke 4 packs a day.
I love , how at 2:32 when the guy refuses the order, Dementus low-key points his revolver at him in case, shit goes down.
This scene was definitely inspired by the second mad max film.
It’s not exactly like the tales of Homer survived to post apocalypse, they barely made it to modern day.
Some of his own crew turned on him, he couldn't run Gastown without the workers rioting against him, couldn't maintain a truce with Immortan Joe, made the worst enemy with Furiosa. Bro was a terrible leader.
Any idea what the white sludge is? Is it clay or some kind of biproduct of the fuel production? 2:44
I don’t remember Vancouver being this desolate
It will be soon the way things are going
All the costumes and stuff are just plain silly. Looks like the entire population of the post-apocalypse got their clothes from a theatre warehouse LOOOL
RIP dementus 😢. Want to see him more in upcoming mad max.
Same. There was more to build too, even a plot potential to get you to feel sorry for him.
@@te9591 i wanted to know things like the teddy and so much more about dementus which was kept secret
@@mightyaxis3123 the teddy belonged to one of his kids. And therefore the plot is suggesting a revenge cycle of murdered families, Dementus is like Max if he became an outlaw king rather than a drifter/avenger/defender.

Well, yeah, they gave him a nose prosthetic.
Betraying Octoboss was easily one of Dementus’ biggest errors
Santa moved to the desert?
The way Dementus took Gas Town was passably clever. The way he ran it was not.
But theres literally nothing else anywhere but there happens to be a Lead mine and a gas refinery in good Condition but everything else disappeared?
@@topy706 the game whose canon is admittedly vague, does establish that gas town has a network of smaller refineries aiding in production. As for the citadel it's a terraforming machine made to make a lake after the war, it was probably designed with its isolation in mind, hell it probably was a lake. The fact that Joe has way more men and material in this film than the later hints that even a decade later the 40 day war devastated his army.
They replace their machines. Immortals army is one of the only factions actually build new things from scratch.
After having watched Fury Road for the first time, the first thought that popped up in my head was "why aren't there more action movies like this?". I don't think that there's more than maybe a handful movies that can match the brilliant mix of over the top action, epicness and visuals that Fury Road in particular presented.
The green screen in this movie is painfully obvious, a massive step down from Fury Road which looked incredible
dementus is 100 percent what toecutter would be if he survived the first movie
It makes sense that this is what turned around the Mortiflyers and made them desert, Dementus exclusively used them for his diversion and then killed most of them. I'd be annoyed too.

2:42 does anyone else think this looks delicious to eat? I know it’s mud but it looks like ice cream 😋
He says his false sly nonsense and they eat it up.
He is the best comically evil but somewhat real villain character I’ve seen in a long time.
I feel like Superhero movies could learn a thing or two.
