Forget Winter months here in Sicily. The weather is extremely unstable and the locations are not well prepared nor built for cold (and humid!) periods, you may end up getting sick. Plus, the services are reduced to a bare minimum. If you want to enjoy Sicily at its most beautiful and relaxing period, I highly recommend from mid/end Sep to mid/end Oct. The late-summer weather is still warm but not killing you, with pretty stable temperatures in the mid-end 20s (Celsius), the air is less humid, you get some refreshing rain every now and then without it being permanent and ruining your journey, you can still enjoy a bath in the sea, many services are still open (e.g. 4x4 transport to the Mt. Etna craters), still plenty of people and activities around, and this all at off-season prices. Greetings from Mt. Etna volcano.

@@JustARandomFio Thank you so much for the information. September/October is exactly when we plan now to go. We'll see Sicily, Tuscany, Pompeii and Herculaneum, and also travel to Como. I'm hoping Como won't be too cold during that time. Thanks again.

@@peter_bazinet Glad to help. I would say the perfect choice for your whole trip. Lake Como will be pleasant, too, unless you are unlucky and catch a stormy time frame. The temps will be fine. If you travel from the North toward the South, add a stop in Lugano and/or Locarno, two marvelous cities. And in Sicily, don't miss Taormina and Mt. Etna. Enjoy your journey!

@@peter_bazinet You won't regret it. Mount Etna is a Must if you visit Sicily. The experience is unforgettable, especially during the eruptions, which are pretty regular nowadays. You can choose from various excursions. For safety reasons, the ones to the craters may not be available if the volcano is too active, but even from a safe distance, you will be able to enjoy the spectacle if you get here at the right time. Cheers!

Are the roads clean and safe in winter? How quickly do the roads get cleaned up? Does the power stay on? How often does it go out? How long does the power outage last? What percentage of businesses that are open during tourist season are closed for the winter? (Just asking out of curiosity-not trying to be mean.)

Good information I usually go in Summer. Please give information in Celsius as most people understand. Not all prospective tourists are from the USA. Most of the world is metric. If you could quote both.
