Jun Kazama is one of my favourite female Tekken characters and I was so happy that she came back in Tekken 8 after 29 years. As a Jin Kazama main, I also play as Jun. She deserves to have more players, more popularity and be a legacy character.

Jun player since day 1 blue rank. I've never felt weak with her, honestly. I also never knew about the broken wall combo she had, only hearing about it after it got removed. Jun is still very safe on her moves, but the permanent health loss makes it a much bigger risk going for them. I find myself thinking a lot more on whether or not I should be throwing moves out without reason. She's actually made me a better player because of it.

Jun is not weak and underwhelming, she's just good in a variety of ways and has her weaknesses like most of the cast does. Amazing tracking options, good pressure, great pokes, insane punishment and whiff punishment probably amongt the best in the game. There's a strong tendency among players to see tierlists putting her in low tier and thinking she's bad or trash while in Tekken 8 most of the roster is actually really well balanced and she's just one of many interesting characters with clear weaknesses.

Been maining Jun since day one and still love her. I didn’t even know about the really broken stuff since I was still new to tekken but I really like the way she plays now.
That permanent health nerf was way too much but the option to heal herself was a good choice for buffs in 1.05. I think she is still very strong. I’ve noticed that most people who play Jun don’t even use half of her really good stuff. It’s weird. If I run into another Jun online (which is really rare) they play like zombies and sit still waiting to do a b3 or cancan. She has much more to offer than that.
A few corrections for the video.
    1. Her heat smash can actually wall splat. Even the low one at the right distance.
    2. She can still output huge damage. Easily 100+ off the right launcher
The trick with her is optimizing damage output vs healing. That’s a decision you have to make while playing her. I think the nerfs were fair. The heat smash tracking and healing were too much. She feels really good now.
I think she could use better frame data on her lows though. Her best lows only make her +2 which isn’t good for much. Her db2, for example, is 22 frames but only leaves her +2 in crouch. Even +3 would be good just slightly more frames.

Any time there is a character situation like this, my mind goes to: what is this character's identity, and how can that be represented better in their playstyle? For Jun, she's been mysteriously missing for years, and has healing magic that appears to be based on her sharing her own energy. Her playstyle is based around sacrificing her health and healing it back. She is almost like a berserker archetype, using health as a renewable resource to be spent. She is also a character that people have been wondering about where she's been this whole time (it's weird to think that at one point there was a lot of hype behind this character), so we can assume she has been mastering these strange magic abilities somewhere secret, unlike Claudio and Zafina, who have been front and center.
All of which is to say, I'm not sure what they should do with her, but her identity seems very centered around the risk/reward health mechanics, so they should probably lean into that. Make her style all about knowing when and how to spend or recover health to maximum effect. Hopefully a Jun main that agrees can elaborate on this idea better than I can.

Change 1. Jun's heat mode doesn't exist it does nothing since she still takes damage in heat mode. If she's still going to take self damage, then give her some new heat only moves/properties.
Change 2. Her grab out of stance can be done with either 2+3 or 1+4 but it's still a 1+2 break. I think it should be either a 1 or a 2 break, making her stance much more dangerous and forcing people to duck more.
I think giving her those 2 changes would make her more viable and more fun to play.

She was never S tier people just didn’t know the matchup.
She desperately needs stronger low options in neutral, something comparable to Asuka’s db3. Our current db3 suffers from inconsistent tracking and is only +2 on hit. If they’re not planning to increase it to +3 or +4, then a new low is essential. Additionally, her sidestep game is lacking because there’s no low threat-there’s no reason for opponents to duck. To round things off, they should make her sidestep 4 chip on block, especially if they don’t plan to give her viable low attacks.
There’s plenty of quality of life changes we need but this is really what sets her back we have no hellsweep or quality low so we don’t have a 50/50 if our opponents are left on -7, -8, or -9.

Please, she can regen both chip and total health, even if you don't use it on a regular , that's a point you need to give for her. Heihachi heals from just frames inputs, and Jun/Yoshi from STANCES. She can heal TWICE, with a regular heat engager recover PLUS at Heat smash 1 or 2(I thk it's 2). Why would you give a hellsweep for a stance/mix up char ?! +2 db3 on hit is fine because some of the many characters rely on jab reaching , thus an attempt of 50/50 restablishment, which can just be ignored because most of her mix up game implies a 13f heat engager or knockdown move, which usually beat jabs. You just don't give a hellsweep (even in counter hit) to someone that can duck punish or duck launch on a regular. Her most risky lows are fine enough, and all risky lows are staggering on block OR are floating combo punish (like Law slide, or even Shaheen one's, or Dragunov slide too that is block launch punishable, yet ain't a staggering one).
This Tekken even more aggressive than ever, is also a huge knowledge check to all characters, and fortunately enough, you need to understand how other characters work and what they rely on to achieve higher ranks and best of tournament to win with.

Jun main since day 1 here. I think her returning in a Tekken game for the first time since Ttag added some allure to her popularity in the beginning, but of course faded, especially once she was nerfed. She was solid of course in the beginning, but part of the reason and you still see this now is because no one knows how to fight her. She is one of those characters that once you have her figured out, winning with her can be tough, especially at high-level. However, she rewards people that put the time into her, and I still think she has incredible tools and can even see her rising up the tier list as the meta continues to grow.

  • @Stanlos

I don't think her original design was bad where heat smash was concerned nor her damage/healing. People were dropping her BEFORE the nerf. I feel like they need to restore those and return two iconic Tekken 2 moves of hers updated with the new soul/crow effects--her OG wheel kick of doom and the weird advancing dancing palms with various kick mix options. She is supposed to be powerful. If Dragonov, Feng, Jin, and Kazuya get to have all their stuff, then why not let Jun ...Jun. I feel like she also needs more parry stuff.

Jun is still the character that I have the highest rank (I'm learning Bryan now). I stated playing her after all the patches, and she could be weak but I think her fighting style and moves are soo cool and elegant that just these factors makes playing her worth the time. I have said for months that Jun is nowhere near as powerful as people claim her to be. Her heat smash never should have tracked. That is not up for debate. But the community has had a hate boner for the character since release regardless of the facts. It felt like they just wanted to see the character dead and they more or less got their wish. Her wall damage got nerfed. What about the several other characters with high damage unscaled combo enders at the wall? The Bear booty is memed now but Kuma has literally the same wall damage and goes untouched. Leo and Law aren't much better. It just seems to me like an unwarranted witch hunt got a character nerfed into obscurity.

Admittedly, I'm not a very strong player, but I think the issue with Jun boils down to her core concept. She sacrifices HP for damage, but her damage is too low to justify this sacrifice and her options are pretty limited due to how her stances work.
She poses the same balance problem that Akuma does in Street Fighter, and is further proof that balancing around health is a terrible idea.

    • @ChicaneryBear
      @ChicaneryBear 2 дня назад

To clarify this, her having less effective health doesn't matter if her damage is high enough, and it matters immensely if her damage is too low. It's a bad way to balance a character because low health doesn't matter if they never get hit.

Her main heat smash even pre nerf was only an option for me as anti pressure tool especially with really aggressive opponents. Once I found her alt heat smash that’s my go to. Out of gen stance it’s crazy, and it’s her stance that counters lows and throws, for awhile it even tracked pretty well (nerfed). On launch one of the main reasons she was so broken was because of her respike true combo that nearly did 160 dmg, it wasn't that hard to do and there was litteraly no counter play because of the face down feet towards you position the other player recovers from before the respike. It was truly hell and abused by most high lvl Jun to climb ranked quickly, it was patched soon after by making a quick stand up recovery possible and that being in the same patch as her wall combo dmg nerf she litteraly lost like 50% of her player base from either the nerfs or already being stuck high rank by abusing her broken respike. And when the heat smash and health damage changes came, she truly died for good...
I still main her to this day, and now you have to work so hard to get the same reward other characters would get without expending health or ressources, she is predictable, no good lows to justify crouching, at this point the only reason I still play her is because of her stylish combos and her design...

    • @Sicknificant1
      @Sicknificant1 2 дня назад +2

No character is "easy" on tekken though. When people say easy they just mean the barrier for entry. Like to get started on a character you can learn some "easy" things and make it to red ranks and start learning the game. Jun has pretty straightforward combos and can pubstomp people that don't know her with strings alone. Easy for a new player to spam strings, hard for a new player to defend against it.
Kishin for your first tekken game is good so guessing you have plenty of fighting game experience on other titles. You are advanced enough that you pretty quickly got to the next phase of learning your character which is "omg this character has weaknesses like a lot of fake pressure" so now you realize at a higher level you have to play defensive and that isn't easy at all.

The main problem is that she is defensive gameplay in a game with meta being “overly strong aggression”. She doesn’t play like 80% of the rest of the roster, she has to play something different than Tekken8 if that makes sense. I think she still needs tweaks to help her against other characters or these other characters need to be brought down a peg or two. Right now her moves get eaten for free all the time. Her frames could be better, her damage could be slightly better for how much self damage she implies to herself, things like that. Other characters get away with spamming strong fast hitting moves and she cannot beat them with speed ad she is meant to play slow and patiently in a game that’s literally marketed as “aggressive and fast”. She cannot play the meta of Tekken8 to the best of her ability with how her current frames and toolkit operate. Even the best Jun players still have to play her extremely safe and just use pokes here and there without doing much of her gameplan at all with her heaven light bc it’s far too risky and unrewarding if even hit confirmed.

I've been playing against a super high level Jun for a while and maybe its a matchup issue on my end, but I've been thinking she's super underrated right now. She's like a hybrid of Kazumi and Asuka, with very simple but very effective poking, and very explosive panic buttons that can destroy an opponent for attacking her at the wrong time.
And while she lost the ild wall combo, he current uf4,3 Mirai2 combo still does a lot of damage. Like 28 when the average is 20. She can still wall splat and do 80+ damage from her uf1. Her tracking is amazing. Her ch game is scary cause of cancan. Ss4 is an amazing pressure tool. F2,1 is kinda stupid cause its a safe, launch range launcher in heat that the Jun can hut confirm.
I could go on but she still has plenty of really strong tools. I just think because she hasn't been in a Tekken game for so long and isn't super straightforward, players hadn't yet taken the time to dive deeper into what she can do. Her strengths aren't as blatantly obvious compared to characters like Dragunov, Nina, or Yoshimitsu. But I don't think she's as weak as some players think.

I still main her!!! I mained her in Tag2 and now in T8 and took part to competitions (still nowsadays when I feel like) and I can tell she's has never been THAT strong, mid tier ar best, the only broken thing was the heat smash at game release and was soon patched to not mention that the move doesn't give any plus frames and just leaves tons of pushback.
I do have a feeling it's hard to balance a character with healing mechanic already so situation it's already tricky. I do feel bad for her tbh, I hope they will find a solution for her in the balancing meta. She's not "weak" but in tournament playing defensive it's HARD especially dealing vs STRONG players using S+ characters. I wonder when they will give her justice for once balancement wise.

Nice breakdown. One thing that can be added is her f32~IZU 1+2 setup into guranted d 1+2. Challenging that would launch. That along with heat smash and wall combo made her strong. With thesw gone shes trash.
My two cents on how to buff her👇
    - they introduce perm dmg but not perm recovery much. Likr u can in combos but not on whiff pr block punish. So better option would be to
    1) adjust her 12f string 2141 all natural and make last hit recover 4 perm health. On downside, make it unsafe at -13~14 etc.
    2) at 15f she cant launch and her db11 str only recovers 4. Well its -15 iself on block so just make it to 8 perm and 8 white health recovery to componsate -15s
    - ss4 should do chip dmg imo. Drah qcf 4 hits grounded, +ob mid, gives heat etc etc. If he can keep it so can jun. Lets add chp dmg without costing health. No need to hit grounded tho jusr add dmg on block
    - her df1 string only gives +10 on counter hit. Lets make it 13f so that she can enter heat at will or use aforementioned 2141 string to recover health
    - asuka has b4 with same prop as jun df4 only diff is jun is -14. Too risky. Lets make it -9
    - also nina db3 gives +4C and guranted counter, jun-s can be changed like that +2C on normal hit and guranted f2 on counter. (In current state, opp can just ss or jan interupts)
All of that make her strong but not broken and atleast viable cuz she can atleast do smth lol 😅

It's worth noting that every single heatsmash heals on block, it's a universal mechanic that blocked attacks noticably heal in heat. Just her heatsmash used to heal more than usual and was bugged to do so even on whiff, nowadays it heals about the same as others or less (check the healing and chip damage on Nina's for example).
I still play her but switching to Law as my main made winning so much easier ;)

Jun honestly feels good to me right now. I picked her up not too long ago for the first time and got tekken king day 2 of playing ranked. More frames on her lows would be nice tho ngl but coming off of Lidia, ill take any low with plus frames lol

She is liked the 3rd most used female character and my main. Always saw the problems with her and I am happy people are figuring out she is so low tier

So she is like Asuka R# from GG Strive, powerful but with clear weakness, which makes her fall off when the other characters have better match-ups and advantages than her, yeah? Asuka in GGST was super powerful when he first came out, then they nerf his power to make him balance, and now everyone kinda figures him out that he has some very obvious weakness.

Jun is really my fav character but I think people like we know have problem to be able to play with her considering others characters who are way stronger and difficult to keep up with them

I have played Jun since Tekken 2. They need to give her back her 3 Ring Circus infinite chain and all of its extensions, and tie it into her current stances.
Jun's problem is that she is way too predictable in T8, and a big part of that has to do with her exaggerated fighting style. She's very easy to comprehend, visually. Compare with Eddy, who you can fight 500 times and still not read sometimes.
So they need to add options to make Jun less predictable, and to let players express how they like, through navigating entry and exit points of a central infinite loop of 3 Ring Circus/Heron Dance, with 2 or 3 smaller loops like she had in TTT2.
Also give her cancels in her current mixups, because they are basically useless in blue ranks and up.

I LOVE playing Jun. She's been my main since T8 release. I quite often see Jun players to be honest.

I think Jun is seriously underrated and a lot of people just see "Jun nerfed" and drop the character coz they think she's weak now. I still rate her top tier

I am pretty sure, hitting the heat smash near the wall does wallsplat. I think it's fine how it is. I don't need more "guess my next move" heatsmash. It's a fast high dmg/healing punish with what? i13?

I see all my people flocked in here! Hey there Kazama siblings! ❤❤❤
Jun is will always and forever be my fave Tekken character and im just so grateful we have her back.
To give my two cents, just to echo what everybody else here already said she lacks a good low to open opponents up. Her db 3 is just +2 on hit which isnt much and doesnt allow her to continue pressure. You kinda have to use throws more often to make them duck but if theyre consistent with throw breaks then youre doomed. Her Gen 1 is a nice low but comes from stance. Db 2 is slow and does neglectable damage so does d4. Fc 2 is good for CH fishing but was nerfed and hurt her gameplay imo. Her main pressure tools SS 4 and ff 1+2 are slow and very linear. Mix that up with an almost useless Heat ability and self inflicting damage moves and you got a trainwreck of a character lol
But she really have very nice whiff punishing with f2 and tracking moves df3, f4 though and does decent damage at the wall.
All in all i will take the self damage and trash heat ability for a low with decent frame on hit. Make her db 3 +3 or +4 or make it force crouch on hit kinda like Ninas db3, i dont mind if its -13 on block. Thats all im asking

I remember seeing a tournament matchup of dnf duel where a guy was known as the god of low tier and won a top matchup. And I thought F tier lists. I’ve loved Jun since tekken tag 1. I will say her current light blasts to me makes her feel like a character I’m not too familiar with. I did fall in love with Asuka since I interpreted her as Jun’s replacement. So I would feel bad abandoning Asuka who has been my girl. Feels kind of like inuyasha kikyo…ish

She represent peace in a game about fighting. Devs need to build female chars like you would see in a fighting gym. Put her in mma gear and watch the usage fly
