This might be happened at the Asian XI vs world XI match that has been scheduled in 1997 but unfortunately Saeed Anwar was injured just before the match and Saurave Ganguly replaced him. It’s a dream to watch saeed and tendulkar to open the inning in 90’s as they were so competent and class act and terror for the bowlers at that time.

6 matches, 6th innings and 300+ score in this tournament with an average of over 107... thats some class dude... and back those days , cricket was fair enough for bowlers batsmen, not like these days favouring batting only. #LegendSaeedAnwar

Pakistan should have cantered to a win here particularly given that they had a deep batting lineup till Latif. But Ijaz, Malik and Inzamam got out cheaply, literally throwing their wickets and they lost their way. A similar pattern was repeated in 1999 against India when the middle order again got out cheaply and lost that game, failing to chase 227. I remember this game and was on the verge of switching off my TV in disappointment until Sohail got out. Somehow, I feel Ind v Pak today is not the same as it was in the 1980s and 90s given the quality of those players.

In fact he should be more likey be compared with Lara. Ya he lost his touch in later stages of his career bcoz of his personal losses but in his peak he was right up there with Tendulkar and Lara. And inziman got him run out on few occasion too.

We were probably the 2nd best team in the 1996 WC (after SL) and the best team in the 1999 WC. When we again get talented players hope we learn from the current India management on how to maximize the team's potential.

The match was very clearly in Pakistan's hand... there were no signs less than a victory... At this point, both openers should have played strategically with singles till the next 10-15 overs and then the rest was easy for Pakistan... But, something different was written in their fate, and the better team India sealed the deal for the semi-finals... (although they were outclassed) This match was more sensational than the semi-finals or finals... what a memory..

This is a pattern that has always happened in the 7 ODI matches we have played against India. IMHO Pakistan cricket board must hire a therapist to give the players counseling. They must practice stress reduction as well by doing yoga and meditation.

I still remember this match watching live on PTV after coming back from my school. I watched each and every ball of Pakistan innings. When Pak started loosing wickets, there was power break-down in my area, so we started listen on Radio Pakistan Karachi, that was a black day for us. We are 231 for 5 after 41-42 overs (chasing 288), when Rashid Latif & Javed Miandad were batting but we ended at around 240 for 9 after 49 overs.
In those days, Pakistan were a lot stronger team than India, but in Pakistan this defeat & absence of Wasim Akram was very suspicious and almost all of us started to believe that Pakistan deliberately loosed this match. God knows whether its true or not. But I was very disappointed after this match.
Soon after loosing this world cup, PCB recruited Saqlain, Afridi, Abdul Razzaq, Azhar Mehmood and Shoaib Akhtar to give a boost and the new era of Pakistan Cricket started.

I can never forget 9th of March 1996, the day was Saturday & I was going through my horrifying, crucifying & exciting at the same time,10th grade annual exams, called matriculation exams, that had put a humongous amount of pressure on me already. Having come back home after done with the Physics' paper (I had secured 77% when the results came), I started watching the match. Jadeja wrecked havoc on my then favorite Waqar Younas. When Pakistan started batting Amir Sohail & Saeed Anwer started returning the favor. It was so exciting and heart warming that I cant even express in words. But it was short lived, Saeed Anwer fell so unexpectedly & Amir Sohail fell prey only to his useless bravado. Instead of sending Javed Miandad & Salim Malik to consolidate, rather Ijaz and Inzamam were sent who fell cheaply putting huge pressure on Javed & Salim. Still they played well making 38 each, When Latif hit two sixes the diminishing hopes were revived again, 58 required now of 40 balls but the rush of blood took its toll on Latif & with him gone, were the hopes too, & then Javed & eventually the tail. Such a sad ending.
Before 1996 I had developed a firm belief in not having the ability to achieving two things, matric & hat-tric, 1996 proved me so wrong, there was a hatric, as 9th,10th & 11th of March 1996 proved to be three consecutive worst days, 11th being the ever destructive Mathematics' paper (I secured 50%, being my greatest academic achievement till date), and 10th March because when I was preparing for the exam at night, an absolutely unscheduled electricity outage owing to a thunderstorm, badly hampered my "last stand" in the face of a mighty adversary called Mathematics. What a hatric !!! And guess what when the result came on 27th of June, I had succeeded in doing the matric with 71% marks :p :p :p

Pakistan was not having good mentor after imran.that is the real fact about declining pak cricket.how Sachin holded the team along with Dravid ganguly kumble.that was missing in pak.they did not creat personality cult inside the team.this was the biggest difference.resultant no discipline and no respect for each other.talent is not every thing nourishment makes the difference.hope now azam is having that quality after inzamaam but need 2 to 3 players like that in the team then only atmosphere will change inside dressing room.

But Sohail had great heart and a fighter to the core..was a very good opener but fell away due to politics and his own anger issues...he actually played better than Anwar in some series...he scored that 200 in England in 1992 and had great potential but i totally agree with you,Anwar was in a completely different league....his records dont do justice

Amid the heartbreak and emotion of losing this game, when by all standards, Pak should have won, the simple truth as a Pakistani fan is Wasim didn't play deliberately as he was asked to throw the game but he knew that would invite the wrath (which it did anyway by not playing )... Sohail was not the captain you need with players like Miandad etc in the team.. Plus the shots by Ijaz, Inzi and Salmi Malik showed a glimpse of compromise.. So a team imbalanced by Wasim's absence and Waqar's desire to bowl even faster resulted in this historic defeat...

In my eyes. the best Pakistan team ever! Though it didn’t continue long and had little success. They won Sahara Cup in Canada, VB Series (Australia) for the first time, Beating 2-0 in test match in England and a Trophy in Singapore.
Regarding this Bangalore match - Pakistan had a blistering start in opening ! The asking run rate was below 6.0! Later messed up because of Amir Sohail lost his temper and tried sledge Venkatesh Prasad. He got out in the very next ball. Pakistan lost momentum. By the way, I am from Bangladesh 🇧🇩
