I remember when you would get jeans in dark blue (sometimes at the army surplus.) it was crunchy and you had to wear it in. Now that kind of denim is super expensive. That is so stupid!
I preferred the look of the cheaper pairs almost every time. Seems like the more expensive they got, the less visually appealing they were. The $1,340 pair was interesting and artistic, but truly ugly in my opinion! This was a cool video though. Now I have an understanding of what makes a quality pair of jeans.
i like the stiff ones because it looks like your wearing jeans and not leggings;). plus the tears in them are beautiful, compared to the stretchy ripped holes you see at the malls...
Sonaper if youre suggesting spending more money on tops, shoes, and accessories i would have to disagree with you to an extent. The most important the most important thing is fitment and coordination.
Yeah i agree, Fit is the most important, you should always go for clothes that makes your body look better. But paying allot of money for clothes you can reproduce yourself is stupid tbh. Buy blank pieces, find the fits and customize them yourself if you are into fashion. I always buy clean timeless pieces (tapered jeans, work jackets, blank quality t-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts) and then i use diffrent DIY techniques to add some flare.you will always have a unique style that way
well no, you missed the point of the video then I guess. They were trying to explain why those pairs cost more than "regular" jeans, and most of them are definetly worth the money btw
It’s the opposite of what you said. It’s made better so that in turn makes it more expensive. The manufacturers use better materials and put in more manual labor to make them (tighter stitching, small details, hand sanded fading,.. etc)
@@yayafour971 if you're materialistic they're worth it, you pay for the name half the time. Companies spend millions on marketing, targeting suckers like you...... Now if i replaced the patch on these 1000 dollar pants with some random cheap brand, would they still sell for 1000? Probably not.......... probably made overseas too lol
I used this guide to buy jeans at Old Navy. I found a jean with a 9 stitch per inch, heavier feeling, and had only 1% spandex and 99% cotton. Only cost me $40. You don't have to buy $80 jeans.
everyone is getting so made that they said $80 was ‘cheaper’. for the more expensive jeans, you’re paying for the craftsmanship and the designer and the creativity, not just the garment.
He is very serious about his denim ! I could just imagine him shopping for jeans, he probably brings a magnifying glass to look at every stitch :). Although most of the 'less expensive' styles are above $50 I still learned alot about the structure of a good jean. Great video.
When I was younger my mum would buy me those expensive stiff denims that I thought weren't as nice fitting as the cheapest jeans however they did last me a good amount of time 🙌🏼
I pay between 10$ - 20$ for those same quality jeans.... that 80$ is a whole scam because The same quality I can the same for 10$ - 20$ and as far as those jeans that cost 180$ & 300$ girl at that point go to the thrift store by them there & then go get some scissors I never paid more than 25$ for jeans and I've had the same 6 pair since 2013
Laesha Martinez yup that guy was wearing a Helmut Lang denim jacket the one he’s wearing seems like the re-edition but the original from 1996 is regarded as a holy grail denim jacket by many
i wouldnt consider myself a connoisseur but ive had those cheap stretchy wranglers that last 2 years and the levis that lasted for 20 and thats the difference, you pay $250 for a pair of jeans that can last half a lifetime, plus they never really go out of style
Hi thank you for educating me on the differences ! I'm 56 and I grew up in the 60s and high school in the 70s back then there was no such thing as stretch denimn... and I'm not a fan ! I have a pair of selvedge jeans from rag&bone. Way more worth it than buying jeans from Pacsun or H&M. It's better to buy a pair of more expensive jeans that are more durable then some $30 jean that will be worn out in 2 months.
Dumb excuse, because I buy Levi, Gloria Vanderbelt, and Calvin Klein at Costco for under $30, and they last me a super long time, and I wash them multiple times a week.
Levi’s are not going to wear out in two months. If impressing others means more to you then the planet Atleast have the balls to admit it. Fast fashion is killing this planet and this generation is so hung up on the Kardashian’s and what their friends think they couldn’t give two shits. Like I said Atleast have the guts to admit it
@@debbiepotter6413 I absolutely agree. I also think really cheap shoes like those $15- $25 and sometimes cheaper jeans wear out faster (Especially cheap shoes), but there comes a peak of quality vs just vanity. $300 Gucci sneakers are not going to be better quality than $50 Converse or Vans. Anything past $50 for jeans is just vanity.
i paid 135 usd years ago for an levis jeans and it is still good. my 40 usd jeans are trash after like a year. i once had a white bag wearing it over my shoulder and was wearing cheap blue jeans ... guess what, white bag now blue on one side.
My favorite brand of jeans run about $60 a pair. I LOVE them. I picked up a pair of jeans at Goodwill recently that are beautiful. They fit so nicely. The quality is great. I paid $7.99 (our GW prices SUPER high too)... Want to guess where they’re from? H&M! I think a lot of the time you’re paying for the brand name vs the product.
Wtf jeans were made at some point 100% cotton, not anymore. Talk about being screwed over....if you want 100% cotton your going to pay through the nose.
My most expensive pair was $120....honestly I never wear them so I can’t justify spending that much money on jeans. I wear Hollister jeans that have lasted for almost 4-6 years and they’re my go to pairs. They fit just right and are faded the way I like them to be. And they don’t have holes, rips, or tears.
I had both kind of jeans the high end and the more affordable, either way within 2 years you'll need to replace the jeans, I prefer paying the more affordable if anything happens to them I won't be too concerned about it, and won't feel like I wasted 200$+ on jeans, no one really look at the details like they do, as long as it look good on you and fit well, no need to spend 200$+.
She just said she had both. I have worn both. I just don’t have that burning need to try and keep up or impress others. Because that’s exact what it boils down to.
The surest way to tell the quality of your jeans is by the quality of the fabric. You can have quality stretch jeans but make sure they're thick enough. 12-16oz denim the range to go for. Any less is basically shirting, any higher you probably won't be able to move! XD You can't have non-stretch skinny jeans for the same reason. :) The first two pairs: the cheaper ones were women's and they tend to have more stretch to fit our more varied shapes; the other were mens and men tend to wear their jeans looser so they don't need as much stretch, and because their jeans are looser-fitting there is less difficulty in getting a good fit. Benjamin uses stretch jeans in his brand. Stitch length: 8 SPI is advised but any smaller than that on a medium to heavy weight denim would be silly. You don't want any bigger than that unless it's a styling choice. The stitching should be neat and firm (but not tight). Rips and distressing aren't reliable indicators of quality. Some expensive jeans, for example quality raw selvedge will not have whiskers in the store! Not everyone wants that so only offering it would be commercial suicide. And selvedge isn't a sure sign of quality anymore: I believe there are cheaper ones available. A zip fly isn't either: I've seen them in Primark, and I've seen good quality zips in other stores. It's purely a matter of preference. There are construction methods that are better indicators of quality but this doesn't seem to be reflected in the price, and you'd have to know what you're looking for. All denim gives as you wear it, but in varying degrees. Get your jeans so they're snug but not tight, rather than getting ones that "fit perfectly" in the store or you will be pulling them up later. Look for fabric that's strong and holds its shape: recovery is more telling than stretch. If it feels like a balloon, move on. Also, look for seams that don't look like ladders when you pull them. :) After that, just make sure you get a pair that actually fits you. You'll look better in a cheap, well-fitting pair, than you will in an expensive ill-fitting pair. Go to an actual shop and try stuff on. Ask the assistants to help you and it'll be a much quicker trip and you should actually end up with a pair that fits you properly. Tell them what you want and if they have it, they'll bring it to you.
I resell used clothing, primarily jeans for a living and those jeans that are $150+ are usually not even that good of quality. They fall apart just as easily as that $40-80 range jeans.
Guys just because you’re poor doesn’t change the labour and detail that goes into a good pair of jeans... if it’s expensive don’t bash it just don’t buy it lol
People have gotten rediculous. And then cry they can’t afford rent, minimum wage should go up, why, so you can buy $150 jeans because your friends or neighbors have them? They probably can’t afford them either. Everyone going broke bc they are worried what others think. It’s gross. This country is so sad.
Raw thick denim feels better and is better quality which means it will last you longer and look better generally. I pay about $20-$40 for jeans. No more. I rather get used good quality jeans for $10 thrifting though.
I tend to buy jeans that retail for 150-250, but generally only pay 80-100 for them during sale seasons. Anything more than that and you are paying for the name, fit, or because you have that much expendable income.
If you've ever bought cheap jeans, you know they feel and look like crap after a few wears. And they start to tear and have buttons fall off/zippers break after about a dozen.
Because it’s raw doesn’t mean it’s going to “shrink” I mean all fabrics will shrink. BUT, it’s the unsanforized denim that will shrink 1-3 inches. Sanforized denim will barely shrink just like any run of the mill denim you pick up at the mall
Howard yeah I know but they fit the description for real jeans. And plus it was cheaper because it was at Ross. Ross gets leftover clothing from other stores. That’s how they can sell it cheaper

I remember when you would get jeans in dark blue (sometimes at the army surplus.) it was crunchy and you had to wear it in. Now that kind of denim is super expensive. That is so stupid!
That’s because people in general are stupid. Sheeple. It’s gross
I have a pair of Levi's that still look great 4 years later. I did get it on sale for 25 marked down from 80
I preferred the look of the cheaper pairs almost every time. Seems like the more expensive they got, the less visually appealing they were. The $1,340 pair was interesting and artistic, but truly ugly in my opinion! This was a cool video though. Now I have an understanding of what makes a quality pair of jeans.
Am i the only one who prefers the cheap ones? The expensive ones are too stiff
i like the stiff ones because it looks like your wearing jeans and not leggings;). plus the tears in them are beautiful, compared to the stretchy ripped holes you see at the malls...
fryday Generally they are more stiff because stretchy denim is very cheap (cheaper than regular fully cotton denim).
i also prefer the cheaper one
I like jeans with stretch🤷🏽♀️ also I like cheap jeans. Not their idea of cheap jeans my idea. Like $20😂
Young people and high end products. You don’t like them because they are real denim. Not the cheap fabric you buy at American Eagle.
What I learned: no one besides a fashion designer or an industry guru can tell the difference between expensive and cheap jeans.
No one's gonns know they're expensive jeans besides yourself.
Id know if they were raw or selvedge easily. not necessarily the price point though. but raw selvedge is typically more expensive.
also, why does anyone have to know how expensive your jeans are? it's about quality and longevity
I dont know why you would pay that much for washed denim though.
They also don't brush their teeth i learned
I see so many cheap looking distressed jeans at the mall, I can't tell the difference if u wearing SLP's or Pacsun lol
Howard Exactly lmao I can do distressing and wash better than Pacsun
I get my Levi's 511 on sale for $60 . I love them and that is all I am paying !
maximum i would pay for jeans is 60$, it's jeans nobody will tell when you are out, tops, shoes and acc are more important
I always buy clean timeless pieces (tapered jeans, work jackets, blank quality t-shirts, hoodies, sweatshirts) and then i use diffrent DIY techniques to add some flare.you will always have a unique style that way
And a nice necklace or a watch can sometimes really make an outfit
Sonaper i just distressed a $20 denim jacket. Looks amazing imo. I love vincero watches. They are affordable and look great.
Sonaper I guess you cant find a good selection of jeans I guess. Old Navy must be your favorite place lmao
So being expensive makes it better? That's marketing at its peak
well no, you missed the point of the video then I guess. They were trying to explain why those pairs cost more than "regular" jeans, and most of them are definetly worth the money btw
It’s the opposite of what you said. It’s made better so that in turn makes it more expensive. The manufacturers use better materials and put in more manual labor to make them (tighter stitching, small details, hand sanded fading,.. etc)
outerspacefunk The more expensive jeans, last longer since they’re made of better material
Why is no one buying Uniqlo??
@@yayafour971 if you're materialistic they're worth it, you pay for the name half the time. Companies spend millions on marketing, targeting suckers like you...... Now if i replaced the patch on these 1000 dollar pants with some random cheap brand, would they still sell for 1000? Probably not.......... probably made overseas too lol
This was super informative thanks :)
Iris Juhasz Very true, totally agree. But the quality is usually way better.
*mad
@@yougotgamesonyourphone6947 dude i wrote this a year ago and ppl make typos lol
He is very serious about his denim ! I could just imagine him shopping for jeans, he probably brings a magnifying glass to look at every stitch :). Although most of the 'less expensive' styles are above $50 I still learned alot about the structure of a good jean. Great video.
I get signature by Levi's at walmart for 20 bucks or sometimes I may get Hollister since they are almost always on sale
thank you for this! i never know how to tell which is good and which is not.
This man really knows his stuff, because that’s how I explain denim as well, and the woman learns really fast.
Ok a CHEAP jean is from Forever 21 and and EXPENSIVE jean is from Abercrombie
What idiot would spend 1000+ on on denim?
Just sayin
It's Vetements jeans it's normal
$1000 is a lot
But a $100 jean is one that is not made in a sweatshop 😒
you a clown if u spend 1k on abercrombie jeans, for 1k you could buy literally 4 pairs of early 2000's dior jeans
me
Saint Laurent, helmut lang, and Ksubi has to be my personal favorite brands for my jeans
LOVING ❤️ his vintage HELMUT LANG jacket ❗️❗️❗️
When I was younger my mum would buy me those expensive stiff denims that I thought weren't as nice fitting as the cheapest jeans however they did last me a good amount of time 🙌🏼
I pay between 10$ - 20$ for those same quality jeans.... that 80$ is a whole scam because The same quality I can the same for 10$ - 20$ and as far as those jeans that cost 180$ & 300$ girl at that point go to the thrift store by them there & then go get some scissors I never paid more than 25$ for jeans and I've had the same 6 pair since 2013
i'd say $10 jeans are the same quality as $80, but there's a world of difference once you get in to the $150+ range
you'll talk different after wearing acne jeans
Part of the jeans price difference depends on work conditions/salaries for the ones who makes them. The bleaching itself is done with toxic reagents.
@@euLienee I did mention the thrift store where you can get the same styles & quality and just as much labor for way cheaper.
Cochina. Time for a new pair of jeans.
I am wondering if this applies to denim jackets too, which most likely it does!
Laesha Martinez yup that guy was wearing a Helmut Lang denim jacket the one he’s wearing seems like the re-edition but the original from 1996 is regarded as a holy grail denim jacket by many
2:25 he's such a denim purist, he applies the "no wash" practice with his teeth O.o
I’ve seen people send $200, on one jeans. I think you are just buying the name.
Just buy Levi's 🤷♂️
i wouldnt consider myself a connoisseur but ive had those cheap stretchy wranglers that last 2 years and the levis that lasted for 20 and thats the difference, you pay $250 for a pair of jeans that can last half a lifetime, plus they never really go out of style
Hi thank you for educating me on the differences ! I'm 56 and I grew up in the 60s and high school in the 70s back then there was no such thing as stretch denimn... and I'm not a fan ! They don't hang as nice on me they really highlight a lot of imperfections ! So I love non stretch denimn ! But can't find them anywhere.. could you do another video listing the good jeans and the brands and were I can purchase them
Thank you
Levi's have a lot of non-stretch denim collections! E.g. 501s, 505s
Meliha thanks so much for the info I'll have to take a look 😊
Hi. Try these global.americanapparel.com/en/high-waist-jean_rsadm304w2?c=Light%20Wash
Or these www.levi.com/GB/en_GB/clothing/women/collections/levis-vintage-clothing/1950s-701-jeans/p/507010008
I think Levi’s also do a skinny in non stretch denim. I totally agree with you!! Non stretch is the way forwards!
try www.etsy.com/shop/DetroitReworkedDenim they do custom sizing maybe you'll like ; )
@@JBO2493 thanks so much ! I'm so happy to know someone else that thinks non stretch is a great thing ! Thanks so much for the info ! They are so cute ..ill be ordering a pair or two ! Lol..
VETEMENTS RE-WORK jeans are so fire
When the $80 jeans is not affordable to me LMAO
That’s why I buy mine in the thrifty store. They are all great when I get the right one. I paid at least less than $20
My favorite brand of jeans run about $60 a pair.
Kate Riggen H&M jeans are the cheapest of the cheap.. $25 maximum
Of course you are. And people, sheeple, fall for it
h&m is terrible quality wtf
I got wrangler jeans for $7 at savers. Good quality and fits nice
And here I was saying I was going to be fancy and get myself some Levi’s
Just thrift vintage jeans. Old school clothing was made way better‼️
Especially vintage levi's; search for the orange tab ones, they are brilliant quality and have reselling value
“I didn’t feel like it was a true boyfriend even though it was supposed to be a boyfriend. It just didn’t have those elements.”
Same gurl same 😂
I’m good with my 40 dollar jeans. lol.
@@ashmapathak for good quality jeans that last for years. It’s not.
Wtf jeans were made at some point 100% cotton, not anymore. Talk about being screwed over....if you want 100% cotton your going to pay through the nose.
Then there’s my mom, who EVERY time I buy a new pairs of jeans, declares “well, I’ve never spent more than $20 for a pair of jeans.”
this is so informative! now i know what to look for when splurging on a pair of jeans!! thanks!!
She payed $350 for 1 pair of jeans?!?!?
Cause she's stupid
No because vogue gave them to her.. perks of the job..
S Chhay tu haven’t worn expensive jeans before have you?
She just said she had both. I have worn both. I just don’t have that burning need to try and keep up or impress others. Because that’s exact what it boils down to.
nah, i my expensive denims last me up to 5-10 years and cheaper denims i have to replace every 2 years
This is so awesome for people who thrift, thank youuuu
That's why I shop Second Hand.
will be using these tips in my next shopping!
Watched the whole thing knowing I'll never spend more than $20 on a pair of jeans ever. 😅
Good advice but i fear it's lost on the $80 is expensive crew.
Sabrina Wharton-Brown best and most thought out comment.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Love the dudes helmut lang jacket
Goodwill is my answer to my high end denim
I resell used clothing, primarily jeans for a living and those jeans that are $150+ are usually not even that good of quality. They fall apart just as easily as that $40-80 range jeans.
you tried acne jeans?
im wearing the first A jean now, and the quality is so bloody good
Not wash it still my biggest concern, its dirty
Guys just because you’re poor doesn’t change the labour and detail that goes into a good pair of jeans... if it’s expensive don’t bash it just don’t buy it lol
For a really good pair of jeans the most I will pay is $30. I can’t believe all the comments saying they spend $50 on jeans
I pay 120
People have gotten rediculous. And then cry they can’t afford rent, minimum wage should go up, why, so you can buy $150 jeans because your friends or neighbors have them? They probably can’t afford them either. Everyone going broke bc they are worried what others think. It’s gross. This country is so sad.
@@debbiepotter6413 raw Denim is a worthy investment.
You obviously have disposable income if u are willing to spend $250 on a pair of jeans.
@@hannahlevin3286 she/he said that she/he only PAYS $100.
Nice Helmut Lang jacket
dnielmrtnz thank god im not the only one who noticed 😭💯
The jacket is dope. So many cheap people on here lol
If you've ever bought cheap jeans, you know they feel and look like crap after a few wears. And they start to tear and have buttons fall off/zippers break after about a dozen.
The comment section are definitely not raw denim fans. lol.
Every denim product I own is less than $15.
Yooo that so-called "denim expert" calling the Vetements jeans "the Original" but has clearly never ever heard of Martin Margiela hahah
Those Helmut Lang denim jackets are ridiculously good quality
Can afford Helmut Lang but not a toothbrush and toothpaste
he's probably smoker
Human teeth aren't meant to be bright white. You can brush everyday And still have yellow teeth
Preach!!
helmut lang jeans aren't that expensive unless its like painter lmao
omg this is really helpful thank u so much! also need to know what is a good skinny jean too
My $30 - $60 jeans will do forever. lmao
wtf is buying jeans for $350?? I am clearly not running in the right circles ....
The cheaper jeans are $80? Lmao I would say that's high end, cheap jeans are more like $20
Love the first straight fit high rise pair.
Because it’s raw doesn’t mean it’s going to “shrink” I mean all fabrics will shrink. BUT, it’s the unsanforized denim that will shrink 1-3 inches. Sanforized denim will barely shrink just like any run of the mill denim you pick up at the mall
it'd be nice to know where to buy the jeans you showed or at least the brands.
Lol I got real denim for like $20 at Ross and they were Levi’s
Levi's today is not your parents' Levi's 30 yrs ago. Mass-produced in 3rd world countries, hence the cheaper price tag and construction, FYI.
Howard yeah I know but they fit the description for real jeans. And plus it was cheaper because it was at Ross. Ross gets leftover clothing from other stores. That’s how they can sell it cheaper
my most expensive jeans are worth 15 usd !!! lmao
YonekuniKyuhyun lol. I wonder why it’s hard for people to believe that you can get real jeans for a cheap price
I love Ross!! B!tch, a thousand for jeans?!?! they better have gold and diamonds for buttons... There are things that I would buy in a heartbeat even if they were in the thousands... not these jeans
On the mixed jeans, I would much rather prefer the cheaper one, it looks nicer
