Really enjoy these videos, I am still doing undergrad, doing my last semester, I am preparing myself mentally for CTA, and these videos just inspire me ❤️
I am glad you find these helpful! Feedback like this is really why I want to continue making these videos. CTA is really a mental game. All the best with your undergrad 🤎
Hi Mpho, firstly really loved the video... Very Informative.... Keep up the good work!. I'm 27, a Town Planner by profession, but have decided to change careers.. I'm currently doing my 2nd year of study (Bcom Accounting, with UJ), listing to what you have to say really motivates me to keep going after a career that will make me happy! I was just a bit confused as im not too clued up on the certifications one needs to take after completing the degree.. Im passionate about getting in the investment space so I was looking for more information about CA(SA), CFA and CIMA in order to make a clear comparison between the offerings. You have covered CA(SA) well, is it possible to shed some light on CIMA and CFA? Thank you so much once again!
Hi , great video , I wanted to ask if its possible to choose accounting although I never did commerce subject, I did the math , physics and Life Science
You are a great speaker! I am currently in my third year of undergrad. I would like to know what pointers could I take into consideration to ensure I qualify for CTA 2023? Thank you, this was an incredible video.
Omg I didn't respond for so long because all I could think of was "study hard" and "exam technique " 🥺 Please check out Zanele Maduna, Ntwanie Ngomane, Nomathamsanqa Mfundisi; all here on YT. They may have covered more practical advice on their channels. Zanele also runs a business focused on helping and shaping CA students. 🤎
Dear Mpho. My Son wishes to be a CA, but we now discovered that Pure Maths is a requirement and he changed last year in grade 11 to maths literacy. But UWC and UJ do accept maths literacy, now are these two universities accredited?
Yes He can. There's extended programs that cater for such scenarios. Ideally He could do any basic accounting course at TUT for example then after he gets his Btech , he can register to do CTA's or PGDA for one more year which will give him admission into writing the board exams to become a CA
I see I am late in my response, hope your son managed to make a decision. UJ is accredited, I think UWC as well (link to full list included below). He can do a non CA stream accounting degree, and later a bridging course which allows one to do CTA/ honours. He'd have to work really hard to get admitted, it's very competitive these days! www.saica.org.za/become-a-member/prospective-members/universities-colleges-students/chartered-accountant-casa/students
Please check with your university, I don't want to mislead you. Probably in your third year as CTA is after 3rd year (unless you have to do BCTA first).
yOu have to do a BCom accounting course to become CA. BCom general won't do it. Then you do your 1 year CTA and 3 year articles. You can write the ITC board exam the next year right after your CTA and then the APC at the end of the year provided you have 20 months of article work under your belt.
Hey I’m from namibia nd th universties here off bcom acc , bachelor of acc honours nd bachelor of acc CA so in total its 3 accounting courses but I applied for th bcom acc ..so is it possible to become or continue my studies towards becoming a CA
You can do a normal accounting degree (3 years), and then a bridging course for 1 more year (BCTA at UJ or Unisa) to get admitted to CTA/honours. It's possible, just that your journey will be 1 year longer 🙂
I vouch for the audit experience, especially if you arent sure of the industry you want to end up in ( in audit, you get exposure to banks, mines, government, retail etc). Its one thing to know you want to be an FD, but also NB to know which industry you want to work in ( I trained with an audit firm, then worked in investment banking (commercial property division), and I am currently a Finance Director of a property investment company. Audit exposed me to commercial property, and made me realize I wanted to pursue that further) That said, if you know the industry you want to work in, then go for that from day 1.
Many varsities look for pure maths for the CA stream. You could do a normal Bcom degree for 3 years, and then do your BCTA (which is a bridging course to qualify you for CTA/honours, at least at UJ) after your degree.
Hi Mpho. I am doing my third year in an institution that is not accredited by SAICA .Do you know what I should after I finish my degree in this institution to get my degree accredited?
Hi Mpho hope you are well. So I have a diploma in accounting which I obtained this year and want to continue to being a CA, in this case what do I apply for?
Hi Oratile, I'd advice getting in touch with SAICA or the institution you'd like to further your studies in, for more specific guidance. They'd be able to look at your current qualification and give you more relevant information. 🤎
I had pretty good marks (4As, 3Bs, 1C, this was back in 2010). Many universities look for a level 5 or 6 for pure maths and English. Check the prospectus of the school you're looking at.
Depends on the role you are in. People in audit, finance, banking etc. Will usually earn different amounts. Bonuses also differ depending on the industry you are in. Check out the latest Robert Walter's survey twitter.com/AccountingLoung/status/1729411398625616323?t=qTeDuKhaQRTXYydEcxryKg&s=19

Thank you, this was an incredible video.

just wanted to ask, do we apply for cta during third year or the year after third year
Please check with your university, I don't want to mislead you. Probably in your third year as CTA is after 3rd year (unless you have to do BCTA first).
Can one study CA without studying Accounting in high school ?
Yes currently doing first year
Doing a saica accredited certificate in Boston city
How do you become a CA(SA) if you are doing Bcom in Accounting?
You can bride into CTA after your degree through doing a bridging course called "bridging certificate of theory In accounting" ( BCTA)
yOu have to do a BCom accounting course to become CA. BCom general won't do it. Then you do your 1 year CTA and 3 year articles. You can write the ITC board exam the next year right after your CTA and then the APC at the end of the year provided you have 20 months of article work under your belt.

What if I wanted to be a financial manager or financial director where must I train ?
I vouch for the audit experience, especially if you arent sure of the industry you want to end up in ( in audit, you get exposure to banks, mines, government, retail etc). @ how long did you work as a auditor or did you just get your audit experience the time you where doing your articles?
hey can i ask you cant do ca with maths lit?
Many varsities look for pure maths for the CA stream. You could do a normal Bcom degree for 3 years, and then do your BCTA (which is a bridging course to qualify you for CTA/honours, at least at UJ) after your degree.
Does one get paid during the (articles training)?
You do get paid during articles, yes.
