thanks for the tips. I'll share one of mine! with those Testors enamel bottles, I drop a couple steel BBs in there when I buy them and it makes shaking them back to life much easier. have fun!
I have done this before on probably 100 or maybe a few more weapons of mine and friends of mine over the past 20 plus years. Some people think it looks tacky as hell....but WHO CARES!!! Looks cool on my weapons and l have never had any complaints from the people I have done this for.
Hi, greetings from the UK, i hope you all are keeping safe out there. I have watched many videos on colour filling the AR type platform rifles and am considering doing this to my M&P 15-22 but haven't had the confidence ......up until now. Your way is by far the best with the toothpick method. Your instructions are so clear and easy to follow and the finished product looks like it was done at the factory. Well done mate, 1st class. Neil.
Thank you for the kind words Neil!! I'm glad that it has shown you that it really isn't too hard. Just take your time and don't rush it. The results will speak for themselves!! And mostly just have fun doing it!! Stay safe!! Fred
I've watched a few videos like this and I think your approach of filling the design with the toothpick as a paintbrush is the best. Most people have such an excessive amount of paint to clean off that it doesn't make any sense to me.
Another tip is to use a hypodermic needle and push it through a piece of paper. I like to use automotive color match pens. Two colors works good if you run a hardener between color coats to stop migration and wipes up clean if you mess up. Nice work dude, looks wicked!
This is a great set of videos. Very intuitive. What I found that works good also and makes the red stand out more, was to do everything in white first, clean everything up, and then cover the areas to be done with the red again over top of the white. The white behind the red makes the red stand out more bold.
I’ve just done this on my smith M&P 15 I personally used white nail polish allowed it to find its own level brushed off excess with an old credit card came out fantastic cleaned up with non acetone cleaner after an hour looks the part.great video lovely and clear.
Im doing a blue line strike industries build right now. This is my first build. Found this video and remembered I have this gorgeous pearl blue testers paint I bought for a model build im not using. You're video just made the icing on the cake for my build. Thank you!
@@bravo1xray522 ruclips.net/user/shorts-hRIsnDvIyE?feature=share I don't know why the upload quality is so trash. But you were the reason for the blue inlay on the stamped markings.
I have looked at so many You Tube Videos on how to color fill and yours has to be one of the best I have seen,I especially like that when removing excess paint there is no residue paint left around the engravings like I have seen on other videos..I have a couple AR's,300 Blackoutt and a PSA AR-10 I am building that I want to do and when I do them I will not have any of lower part kits installed so it should make it a little easier I think especially around the safe fire engraving...
Clarence Smith thank you for the kind words Clarence! I've done many rifles using my methods and they all look great. Just take you time and you'll make it look amazing!
25:19, The only thing I would add to your amazing job would be to color fill the groove on the safety so when anyone is looking at the mag release side of the carbine, they can clearly see is the safety is engaged or not. Keep up the great work and thank you very much for this very informative video.
I just splash in on there then use gun scrubber when its dry to clean and it works great. One of the great joys in life in color filling a AR15. Nice work.
Looks good. I used fingernail polish doing mine. It is super high quality paint available in thousands of colors. If you don't have your own you can use the ol ladies, just don't let her catch you. She will insist on hot pink or something, ask me how I know.
You did a great job color filling this AR9 lower, Bravo1Xray!!! I have a lower that doesn't have as deep of a design I want to colorize. Not to mention, I'm going to be using four colors on the main design. So, applying the paint sparingly as you have done should work out just fine for my project.
Very nice. I am definitely going to do this, I’ll start with one of mine and then do the SO’s. I think he’ll love it! Thank you so much for the detailed info and video!
Just for fine-tuning and cleaning up you could soak the tip of a one of them toothpicks in the mineral spirits in the wood will soak it up and you can get in there and scrub a little bit without peeling your pain out that's awesome video gun looks great take care and be safe
Great tutorial Bravo1, a job well done! I really liked the resolution of your camera too, what is it? Pretty much do mine the same way you do except I use a Japanese artists brush that only has a couple of tiny bristles on it so it makes very fine lines. The other differences are: 1. Sealing it all with a satin clear coat when finished. 2. I use a credit card edge to drag across the trademarks or letters while still wet. 3. To make colors really stand out I use a white base coat and when dry fill the rest in with color. 4. I use Hoppes No 9 instead of mineral spirits to clean up any paint not in the grooves. I too have a Vortex Strikefire II red/green dot (with 3X magnifier) but haven't used it yet. How do you like yours? I also have an XD Service model (4" bbl) in 357 Sig so I guess we have the same tastes in weapons and equipment. :o) Thanks for the video, I "liked" and "subbed"!
Your doing that the hard way bro. Fill in the entire logo w/ a tiny finger nail brush. Use an old credit card and immediately scrape off any excess "paint or finger nail polish" . Let dry. Then use some non acetone nail polish remover w/ those "smooth papers" and wipe off. No need for toothpicks and such. USMC66'- 77563

@@bravo1xray522 The paint job I did on my receiver went well. I'm a little more familiar with small detail painting than you are due to scifi and fantasy miniature painting I've done in the past.
