Luke some others have said, I prefer your finish over 40 year old factory dark finish. Yours shows the beautiful "depth" of grain. Very very nice work!
Maybe the tint is a UV shield? There are self leveling additives for epoxy and paint. That project came out fantastic! What happens in the sun tho?...hmm.
I'm sure someone could find the correct additives to both match the original color and add UV protection that would be the next step. thanks for watching and commenting!
that is awesome, i love it. i am trying to restore mine as well. i will try and match the color. could be pretty tricky though. your choice to keep it natural is fabulous too. thanks for taking the time to post this video. now i know how to get the old epoxy coating off. cheers.
Great video, I was thinking about doing this on my 190e’s wood trim. I figured it was just some type of weird stain not a resin, glad I watched this video first 😂. Looks nice with the natural wood color too.
The finished product looks great man! I’ve used epoxies in boat building. The epoxy definitely gets darker with age. I wonder if that’s how it looked when it rolled off the assembly line in Germany?
Looks good! You could have stained it too and it probably would have matched the existing with the epoxy over it. Now take off all the other prices and match it. 😉
Sorry for the late comment, thanks for sharing your experience. How did you apply the epoxy? Brush? I thought I heard you say immersing? Or is it just a ton of epoxy on the brush? Do you think an epoxy spray would have worked?
4:56 final product

I think it looks really good, I like the lighter color.
it was a fun project ! it would be sweet if they all matched.
If I'm being honest I wish they had done the entire car the way you did. It's gorgeous.
Wow! That looks fantastic! I like that better than the factory color

I've read that acetone works really well.
the heat gun method was pretty easy, but more potential to gouge the wood.

Damn your heat gun approach I wish I tried before I had just sanded the entire thing and prolly got some kinda airborn illness.
theres always next time thanks for watching
Looks very nice. I love the depth if the shine, so, please, what clear product did you use? Thank you
I used a 2 part clear epoxy

no brush , just drizzle it on. thanks for watching
And how many coats and timing between rs-coating, etc. ie, how did you get the wood to look so shiny?
I used a 2 part epoxy and let it dry overnight and applied 2 or 3 coats
@@dieselbenzrevive6820 Did You applied it whit a brush?
Looks really nice but you will need to add UV protection or it will turn cloudy.
I ended up coating it with 303 protectant. It's a uv coating
Yep! heat and prying is only thing that works ha
👍
What was the epoxy called
Any 2 part epoxy will work
