Well, the reason he did that is because everyone had 100 pounds of gear on them. They weren't capable of getting off the ground on their own. They also had to be helped into the plane. It wasn't like it was a touching gesture.
Yeah, I'd say they're about neck and neck for me. Maybe Band of Brothers is a little better than Chernobyl, simply because it's longer and about a more historically significant event, but still, only by a hair!
The last surviving member from the Band of Brothers was Army Staff Sgt. Albert Leon Lampre he was a medic and he passed away last year on May 31st. 2019 he was 97 years old.
Sobel got reassigned because his CO knew that any leader who could drive his own men to mutiny like that would end up getting killed by own men in the field, or worse, getting all of his men killed. Sobel had no business leading men in combat. Also, trust me, you are BOTH going to end up crying. :-)
@@TheCourseOfEmpire He's a good Basic Trainer. He lacks that empathy to be able to be One of his men as well as their leader. The Colonel's wise enough to know that Sobel's death was pretty much guaranteed out there, if not from enemy fire, then an 'accidental' friendly bullet. Any sentiment of 'those men deserve a better leader' aside, the math was too grim for him to ignore as a war effort orchestrate.
He also was pissing off other company captains like when he thought he was stealing Easy's guns to teach them a lesson and it ended up being another company's guns.
Pvt Christenson at 3:37 is played by Michael Fassbender, German born German/Irish actor who played many roles you may have already seen. This was his first real role in any major production, and he was a background character. His character played no major role in the series, but you gotta start somewhere, his first major role would be in the film 300 years later. Despite spending almost his entire life in the English Isles he also speaks fluent German which really made him shine in Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds in spite of his character really only having a minor role in that film.

Oh yeah! You have started watching something really epic! Though it's WW2 and it can be sad (naturally), keep on watching. As a history lesson and as learning something new about a (possibly) new subject is always cool, especially when it's history. :-)
You also gotta watch Saving Private Ryan if you haven't already, it starts off on D-Day with the most horrific and accurate depiction of the Normandie invasion that exists in a movie.
The One Where Ross Can`t Stop Revoking Weekend Passes... Anyway, if you chose to also watch less comedic but more gritty, graphic and historic series, might I suggest that you watch Chernobyl? That show made my jaw go unhinged, my eyes to goggle open wide and my pancreas to create enough adrenaline to supply weekend long of a techno party.
This is a great show and based off of the men who served in the real Easy company. those older men at the beginning talking about their experinces are the remaining soldiers of Easy company portrayed by the actors. Its going to be very emotional to see through this show what they went through in real life, most of it is not exagerated. there is a cool youtube video of the actors visiting france with the real men they portrayed on screen. worth a look,
Good to see you watching it. The are many great podcasts out there by history hack on band of brothers, the actual history , behind the scenes stuff and the real soldiers , their families etc
I understand if this is an old stream. But please understand that these fellas from the 506 even after the war for years every time they were asked they credited that Captain Sobel with making them good enough soldiers to survive what they went through he may have been a cluster f****** the battlefield but he was a hell of an inspirational training officer
You got to respect CPT Sobel his way may have been brutal, terrible, and unfair condition serving under him. I definitely believe David Schwimer as an asshole he nailed his character. But it was his way that made his Airborne Infantry soldiers that made them battle harden ready to invade Nazi Germany. Even to this day the 101st Airborne are still legends to this day in the Army I was happy I was able to work along with them atleast once.
its the best war television serie there is that follows Easy Company 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 101 airborne, 101 are one of the many heroes that saved use from the evil call the nazi empire

First time to your channel really enjoyed your channel and subscribed love band of brothers if. You don't mind me asking you what country are you all from ?
I’m saying this preemptively, because every reactor has asked why Sobel is such a “bad guy”. SDIs (Senior Drill Instructors) try to make everyone hate them for one reason or another. This is just in case recruits don’t get along at all, they can come together over their hatred of the SDI. Obviously Sobel took it too far and his men mutinied. But his is a (now) very common mentality.
Yeah, Sobel was a hardcore trainer. But he also missed the point of what a leader is. A leader of military men is not a tyrant and Sobel was worse he was a petty tyrant, who overly abusive and over punished for the least little thing and I think took joy in it. He makes Winters his Company First LT and then puts him in charge of the Mess Hall, that's F'n low man. On the up side all of that shit meant everyone wanted to piss in his coffee when ever he told them they sucked and weren't worthy. It's one of the reasons Easy was one of the most decorated companies in the 101st. They just couldn't be lead into combat by him, someone definitely would have fragged him guaranteed.
Agreed. He would have landed, come across the first man from Easy, berated him, gone in the wrong direction then either be abandoned to die or shot. He was too bad of a leader to have gotten just himself killed.
I actually have converted my dvds to mp4s and have them on my phone, stick a large SD card in it and have it with me everywhere. So I always have something to do, read or watch BOB, who needs internet when traveling with that?

Ok, the easy episode is out of the way. You both looked a little bored at times can't blame you it's not that an exciting episode but it's also the last episode that will happen in. In case you didn't know already this mini series is based on a book of the same name so most of what you see is based on actual events as told to the author by the members of the 506th. So how many famous actors did you notice in the first episode? Did you happen to see Micheal Fosbinder? The actor playing sergeant Lipton is Donnie Wahlberg brother of Mark Whahlberg also an original member of the boy band New Kids on the Block from the late 80s
