This is one of the most historic war miniseries ever. You can actually look up the battle documents of easy company and you will see every detail is just about 100% accurate. Sadly that also goes for every man shown wounded and killed from easy company.
It really isn't, actually. BoB made *a lot* of historical errors and changed or added especific moments for drama, time's and budget's sake. It's still is an amazing war miniseries though.
And they also show the war crimes they commited, at least some of them. One of the smaller ones can be seen in this video, at 8:23 - German soldiers in retreat, just running for their lives and posing no threat, are being shot in the back. War is a dirty business, nobody gets out of it clean. That is too easily forgotten, and the still ongoing propaganda, especially in America, wants people to forget that.
There's also a monument in France where LT Meehan's plane crashed that lists all the men on board the flight that lost their lives before exiting the plane.
A true testament to the capabilities of men that train and bond with each other. What these guys did is unbelievable and most will tell you what drove them was not letting their brothers down. These guys did it day after day month after month while watching their friends die horribly almost daily. The strength of character it takes to do that is absolutely amazing.
Another good series would be the Pacific. Though I have to warn you that it’s a little bit more brutal than Band of Brothers in my opinion. The Japanese were completely different enemies with a different sense of warfare and honor.
Proud to have served with the 82nd Airborne Division, I was lucky to have served under the most inspiring officers ever. On one exercise, we found ourselves surrounded after a jump, my platoon Lieutenant simply told us that we were Airborne, we were suppose to be surrounded, we were just going to fight our way out. He was an officers officer.
Band of Brothers, followed by the Pacific then Generation Kill. Three amazing series that looks at war from different angles. Brotherhood in war, the hatred and violence of war, and the absurdity of war.
Catherine And someone like me, with really strong familial ties to the military, loved it. It’s the whole “trainer for a war you never get to fight” issue like with Jarhead.

NOTE" On D-Day itself, they were under orders to take no prisoners. (Airborne is LIGHT infantry) and without the landings being successful yet, there was no way to HOLD prisoners. Lt. Speirs did as he was supposed to...as distasteful as it was. As he reported in his AAR, he made sure they were disarmed and shot them in the legs for the Army to pick-up after the landings.
No such orders have ever been found, if they were given they were not official.
