Girl Racing Cyclists (1958)

Silverstone race track, Northamptonshire.
L/S of a number of vehicles including vans, cars and motorcycles. A group of five people are standing round a motorcycle preparing it for a race. The camera moves across to show a red motorcycle and sidecar driving past with the number 71 on the side; and two men wheeling a motorcycle with the number 18 on its front and side.
The narrator says they are all preparing for the the Silverstone Trophy Day Meeting of the British Motorcycle Racing Club. A black motorcycle with sidecar drives past, this is number 76; a man walks across after it. A black car and a land rover are in the background.
M/S of three men working on a motorcycle, C/U of one of the men who is wearing a brown hat. M/S of another man on motorcycle number 38, he runs it along the ground then gets off, there are people stood around in the background.
C/U of two pairs of legs from the back, stood next to a red motorcycle; one of them is wearing biker's boots. C/U of a black biker's jacket belonging to the biker's legs, the camera moves up to reveal the biker has medium length dark hair, there are two men there as well, they are all looking at the motorcycle.
The camera moves round to show the biker is actually a woman, she is 18 year old Barbara Bound, one of three women competing in the race. Her father is TT rider Jim Bound and he built her 50cc bike for her. C/U of her face as she looks at the motorcycle. M/S of her walking round the bike, which is number 26. Two men are with her.
M/S of a girl sat on the grass with her chin in her hand, she has a black jacket draped round her shoulders. M/S of a man with a cigarette in his mouth polishing a motorbike, he smiles at the camera. The camera moves down to show his silver bike.
M/S of Barbara getting on her bike, the two men with her check the bike. C/U of Barbara's face, the camera moves down to where one of the men is checking the pedals. C/U of her hand on the handlebars testing the brakes.
M/S of the back of a man's head, the camera moves up to show another lady racer. M/S of Barbara in red helmet and goggles wheeling her bike up to a desk and picking up a tag. A man on motorcycle number 6 is behind her. L/S of the bikes at the starting line. M/S of another lady racer in the line-up, she is wearing a white helmet.
L/S of the flag going down and the race beginning, the camera follows the bikes as they drive away. C/U of a group of men watching the race. A shot of three of the bikes as they drive past the camera. A double-decker bus with 'Dunlop' written on the side is visible in the background.
Note: The other women racing were Miss Pauline Dale aged 25, who rides a 48 cc Ducati and a 125 Montessa; and Mrs Helen Mitchell on a 49 cc Motor Garelli.
