this is more moulin rouge style than portugal style tbf but yes i'm happy with her representing us given the alternatives. Possibly chose a couple songs over it but not fussed at all
From what I understand, the song is about the anxiety you feel when you fall in love, which is why she cant sleep. And she feels like something is physically wrong with her, so she asks the doctor about it, but he says he cant help, and says she is a lost case because of how crazy she is starting to feel. That could also be why you think her voice sounds kind of "tense". But yeah, the translation really doesnt do it right, for example instead of "my head and throat are tied in a knot that wont undo itself" it says "my head and throat are circling around that wont undo itself".
Fun fact: the song has several rhythms (sometimes faster, sometimes slower) to simulate arrhythmias of the heart, because she feels anxious and without any control of her own heart that is quickly falling in love without warning. Also, I swear that in Portuguese the lyrics make a lot more sense and are much more fun and in line with the energy of the performance. The lyrics have some Portuguese expressions that lose some of their character when translated. Love from Portugal ❤️
Nothing Spanish about it… they’re Portuguese sounds and guitar with a burlesque flair… she’s singing about being completely in love so much so her heart is aching. Go 🇵🇹❤Mimicat
12 from Portugal right back to France. (we'll skip the french canadian evidence if you catch my drift, the song is as french as it gets and very good!)
I've come to really adore this one! It's such a *fun* song! I'm pretty sure she's singing about being lovesick, hence all the confusion and feeling sick and everything, and she's basically yelling at her heart to knock it off! It's very cabaret, it's very comical, and I absolutely love it and hope it does well. I don't think it's going to win, but there's a slim chance, and I'd be punching the air if it did!
It's about falling in love and obsessing about the person you love, in the early stages of a relationship. The song title literally translates to "Oh, Heart" but the meaning in English would be something like "Oh My Heart" - she is talking to her heart and to her lover and wondering what to do next. 😁
There are some people that don't get tradition. For example, you didn't like spain or Portugal but you love Sweden, the most comercial one. Well... It is just taste 🇪🇸❤🇵🇹
Most Portuguese singers that were raised with fado music, seem to always tight their voice somehow, no matter the style they sing , even thought this is not fado at all. Btw, you should react one day to the fado style, for instance: Mariza, ó gente da minha terra, concerto ao vivo em Lisboa.
True! I was to say that myself. Hey Georgina, me too. I'd love to see you react to Mariza. You'd find a totally different way of singing. If you're interested, you can also check Mariza - Live In London (2004). Although I find the concert in Lisbon much better. You can choose either "Ó Gente da Minha Terra" or "Cavaleiro Monge". Also, I think you'd love Dulce Pontes "Canção do Mar". Mariza and Dulce are two of the greatest voices in the world. Please react once to fado for us. It's very peculiar, very unique. I'd love to hear you about it since I truly admire your work.
I totally agree about the tightness on the higher notes/the refrain, it sounds a little tense, but it goes with the lyrics. Besides that, I totally love it: Amazing dancing and performance and really catchy tune
Senile, in fact, is used for old people but sometimes it means they are losing their mind, as they are no longer in their right senses. She means that she is losing her mind, as she does not know what to do with this turmoil of passion she is feeling, which is affecting her phidically and spiritually.
from the perspective of a trained vocalist I fully agree on her points about the vocals. I think there still is plenty to be enjoyed about the performance And the vocal quality in chorus might be a stylistic choice. But there were quite a few weak points in the performance both in terms of pitch and technique in general. There is plenty of time to still work on it, and maybe she just had a bad day this one performance. I hope we get to see her in the finale and she places well. Because I find the performance interesting, and she seems cool. But the parts of the reaction that mentioned the technical aspect of vocals was pretty spot on from my perspective
@@IQzminus2 she was aphonic a week prior to this, because of a cold, she had to avoid singing at all until the day of the show, so its even surprising she was able to sing at all.
Hello Georgina and thank you for your review. The song is about being in love and it's not just the music that is fun, there is also humor in the lyrics ofc. I would say there are parts lost in translation, but the essential thing to explain is that in Portuguese you can use heart obviously to identify the organ, but also has sweetheart. So whenever she is saying "Ai Coração", "it can be read as asking her own heart but also asking someone else, if that person's is hers. Hope that helps you with the meaning of the lyrics. 😊
she is lost in another dimension because she gave her heart to someone because we were lost in love, for this reason she questions whether she still has a heart, because she does not have control over it - the music has Mediterranean sounds mixed with a Portuguese guitar
Well, as a singer myself, I must say this seems to be a very fair assessment from a strictly technical standpoint, and I’ve seen enough performances of this and listened to enough studio recordings of Mimicat’s songs in other slightly different styles to think that she can indeed clean those rough edges in time for what we hope will be her last two - or *three*, who knows? 😏 - performances of “Ai Coração” (the ç reads like in French, as in “façade”, by the way ;) ) until the final credits roll and the EBU’s Marc-Antoine Charpentier jingle chimes on May 13th… And, to be sure, some of them don’t even have to be dealt with at all; details such as, say, the tightness in her voice are completely on purpose, done as an expressive device to enhance the lyrics (your interpretation thereof, about senility and love spirals - it’s all hyperbole, part of a “comedic drama” as Mimicat herself calls it -, isn’t too far off, mind you, and you can ask your friend Pedro about it and he’ll likely confirm it, but if you want more detail on all the idioms and quirks lost in translation stay tuned, because I do have my own improved English translation ready to go in a recording and my own explainer to make). One thing we also have to bear in mind is that she was sick in her semifinal and couldn’t even sing five days before it (so, around February 21-ish), and while that means she had around 20 days to recover until this performance, it seems she spent those two weeks worrying about changes in the choreography and styling (and, well, just getting better). She was effectively singing this for the second time in public, after having sent a very different arrangement months before and another studio recording of the current version, hastily made once she got the news of having been selected (she was one of only four contestants, out of hundreds of candidates, to apply through open submission, and she claims to have completely forgotten about it). I would say the results are pretty amazing considering the supposed lack of self-confidence and confidence in the whole process (apparently she also unsuccessfully asked multiple times through friends - I’m guessing Tatanka, who did sing with her in her latest album and represented us at the ESC, was one of them - for an invitation from RTP, as her otherwise decent career was still a bit stagnant by local but especially global standards - we’re talking someone who signed with Sony BMG and definitely deserved better promotion, judging by both her studio and live output - and she knew she also had the chops to bring a certified banger to the ESC), at least before she presented herself and started giving interviews, because from everything I’ve been seeing and learning about this character since, she’s an extreme perfectionist and professional to a fault (having earned a BFA in Sound and Lighting Design probably has some bearing in that, too, it seems), and a complete and consistent stage beast and potential media (and social media!) darling. And finally, onto the enjoyability part and my own assessment thereof… You say it may be a grower and that it didn’t hook you; oh, it will. ;) Just look at your own recording, especially from the 2:42 mark onwards… I say this not in a disrespectful manner, but in actual communion with your apparent vibe (as I probably made the exact same face and moves at the same point, except I didn’t have a camera pointed at me): you look like the “Dimitri Finds Out” meme, and what you just found out is that instead of this just being a conventional cabaret/burlesque musical number, it actually has a lot of ethnic vibes to it (not just Portuguese and Spanish, but also Balkan, at least according to her) and will make you dance most of the way through from that point onward whether you [think you] like the song or not (on your first listen, that is). 😂 And what’s more, you’re not the first reaction RUclipsr I’ve seen going through that very process; it’s just that you’re wearing your professional cap most of the time and that takes you out of actually enjoying the song (there’s nothing wrong with that, of course, and in fact Mimicat and her crew seem to find a lot of value in that and are likely lurking around for data; she said as much in her interviews). Once you start focusing on details (which will hopefully become better with time, and I would suggest you give a look at new live versions of it in her official channel; I believe she’s getting there, even if there are still some flatter and sharper sections in her Barcelona performance) on a more subconscious manner only - because I know performers and coaches alike just can’t “turn off that chip”, as we say - and under the assumption (which, mind you, you should confirm, of course) that they actually fit in not just with the overall theme of the song but also the specific verses they appear in, without having to give out assessments in between and in real time, you’ll start looking at the song as a whole and for what it is, warts and all (and yes, it’s basic, but what else could we ask for in three minutes? A conceptual prog treatise?), more like a “civilian listener”, and be inevitably infected by its catchiness. And catchy it is; this is definitely not my cup of tea style-wise, either (YCWCB, SAL or Este Povo’s entries were, but I have to concede that they couldn’t hold a candle to hers when it comes to the whole package and the pop craziness that is the ESC, and they themselves weren’t probably as charismatic and quirky as her), but I found myself listening to it more than I expected and got the melody stuck in my head (and the lyrics, including my own version, but that started only after a few days, when the reactions started pouring in and I realized we had something special here again). And quite a few reviewers seem to have had it memorized already after playing it just a couple of times, a few days in after her victory, which is a testament to its memorability and means the entry won’t suffer too much from being almost the last song to be announced as the official entry (it was indeed the very last one to win in an ESC-style national selection contest, but there were a few others still TBA by their respective broadcasters). My global assessment? This is a grower/dark horse, which will earn points on its own merits, but also from fans of her studio work, personality, etc. (and we don’t even have to get into the consolidated global televote, which may give it an extra 12- or 10-point boost from Portuguese immigration and speaking communities in the semifinal). She’s not as far out vocally or personally as Salvador was, but I’d say she’s actually more well-rounded as a performer, and while not an “ESC animal” either, definitely more tactful and diplomatic (which shouldn’t turn away conventional ESC fans as much) while still being quirky and endearing enough to connect with the audience. This is potential winner material and the bookies have their heads stuck far into their own posteriors, IMHO. 🙃
@@envoltaemla6652 aha vou levar o backhanded compliment como um elogio. 😂 Não costumo reservar este grau de detalhe a não ser para os profissionais, e aqui é como se estivesse a falar com uma colega… porque tecnicamente é. :P
It's about the anxiety and hardships of falling in love. The happiness of loving a person but not knowing if they love you. It's the gripping feeling of loving someone. It's quite beautiful and the song itself may be a top 10 contender and a personal winner
I’m surprised you’re not keen. Normally I think you get these critiques really right. Not often I’d disagree but… personally I reckon Mimi Cat has one of the best songs , performances and live vocals in the whole competition. Top three for me. I suspect/hope it will grow on you very quickly. 😊
It’s a matter of taste. From What I ear from Georgina usually she doesn’t like music that bring tradicional elements. It’s her opinion and it’s just fine! We don’t have to like the same. 😊
I find she had the most versatile range this year. She goes everywhere with her voice. I'm not an expert though. This music really relies on her vocals and she's like an orchestra.
I was waiting for so long about this one. The lyrics is some kind about a love breaking. And the sound was inspired by Portuguese traditional music, like Malhao Malhao, made famous by Linda de Souza
For me who speak portuguese (brazilian portuguese btw) and english, the translate is a bit off, Mimicat uses a lot of "instranslatable" terms, terms that have a meaning in the background, no just the translate. That said, I really liked the music, go Portugal
Someone woke up in a bad mood :) For someone who kept asking for a fun entry with a nice choreography, this review felt a little bit too harsh. This year I completely disagree with you - Finland and Portugal are my favorites. All in all, I really like to watch you. Keep up the good work.
Mimicat and Ai Coração should be in Eurovision final and be voted to win. Amazing performance and incredible voice. The lyrics are also outstanding. It should win in Eurovision as won in Festival da Canção. So diferent from most of the English singed week Pop songs. Happy song and beautiful coreography. Don't forget to vote!
I think it's difficult for a person who has never felt true love and passion at the same time for someone, to understand the lyrics of the song... in my view, the lyrics, the music and the rhythm are completely magnificent... if you don't stay at least in the top 3 in the final... I end up thinking that the song festival is a fraud ... mimicat has everything that the song festival intends to convey
There is not a lot going on lirically because the translation used is just so literal it does not make sense in English, but in Portuguese it totally makes sense without being cheap. There are certain expressions in Portuguese that cannot be translated without losing its meaning.
Mimicat was recovering from sickness when she performed this hence the vocals not being up to scratch. The song is about being crazy in love, to the point of insanity, because she isn't sure if he loves her or not. This is my favourite entry of the Eurovision this year and I hope Portugal wins, I love everything about it.
This is like a piece from a great Broadway musical, in that part where the actress-singer is at the peak of an anxiety attack, almost in despair, feeling hopelessly in love, losing control of herself (or) fearing not to be reciprocated in her passion! It's normal that the way she sings reflects this tension that she wants to pass on to those who are listening! *In an interview, Mimicat said: if the voice and theatricality conveys some anxiety, then everything is right!* It's good to activate the subtitles (they are according to the official translation). I think you missed it here the opportunity (perhaps because of the rush to finish the reactions) to fully enter and appreciate this work of art.
Yea, on the other hand your favorites till now are Sweden and Australia (1). There's a lot going on there in terms of taste if not of real musical sensibility
Think about love playing with your heart, sending your emotions into chaos that you have no control over. It makes you physically vulnerable, your heart ‘paying the price’ of this love…that is basically the essence of the song. It’s a song that is both joyous and troubled…both sides of the ‘love coin’. Like Amy Winehouse when she sings ‘Rehab’. Different sound but the same sentiment.
It's about falling in love❤ Do you already felt this sensations? Your heart comands your life and your soul... And the music it's from PORTUGAL Not flamenco!!!
Basically she's singing about being love sick. She's very in love and going insane. It's like when you love someone and you just act stupid for no apparent reason because your feelings for them are boiling. "Oh heart" is better translated to English as "my love" than "oh heart" because in portuguese we call our lovers "our hearts". "Oh sweetheart" can also be a better translation. The translation is off. It's a song about burning passion.
Hi Georgina ! The song deals with heart feelings which prevent us from being ourselves when in love. According to me this piece of music looks much more like classical music for a cabarete's song and show. I do appreciate listening to the piano interpretation of this music by PANO. Many thanks to the composer Luis PEREIRA Who composed this music with MIMICAT. With such a music Portugal has got a very high potential to win the competition this year. ❤ ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
@Honest Vocal Coach Georgina the english version of the lyrics hasn't been translated very well. Which is clearly influencing your opinion of the song. If the lyrics dont make sense you cant appreciate it properly. Take for example the Senile part, thats not the correct meaning. A better expression would have been, losing my mind. For context, the song is about her having a big crush on someone, and expressing all the sensations that shes feeling in her body + mind. As its just a crush, the object of her desires doesnt even have a clue. The word "coração" is a double-entendre. It can mean heart and sweetheart. So from the context of the lyrics in some stages shes talking directly to her heart, in others shes talking to her sweetheart (Oh heart/sweetheart, will you be mine?). Add to that each line in Portuguese, rhymes with the previous one. The cadence of the song also changes to reflect what shes expressing, so it begins fairly calmly then the tempo increases the further along she explaining how crazy shes feeling. My translation of the lyrics: Oh heart You wont leave me alone You don't give me any peace You leave me in limbo (unable to do anything) My head and throat are tied in knots That just wont undo, and yet you have no pity on me I feel crazy each day it's getting worse I can't even remember the things I knew by heart, My heart rate just went up to almost a thousand I feel completely crazy, totally out of my mind. My chest is on fire, My mouth is dry I don't know What to do being in love like this, for me, just won't do Because it feels like I'm not me anymore Oh heart Oh heart Tell me, are you mine? The hours pass and I (still) cant fall asleep, I can hear the owls and the neighbours too, My common sense has left and isnt coming back Someone snap me out of this state im in. The Doctor said there's nothing he can do "Lost cause" is what I saw him write I'm stuck in another dimension I'm just one big confused mess My chest is on fire My mouth is dry I don't know What to do Love like this for me, just won't do Because I just don't feel like myself anymore Oh heart Oh heart Oh heart Tell me, are you mine? My chest is on fire My mouth is dry I don't know What to do Love like this for me, just won't do Because I just don't feel like myself anymore Oh heart Oh heart Oh heart Oh heart Tell me, are you mine?
the main issue with the translations is that we use both heart for the organ and for sweetheart, and she is mixing both meanings in the song, so unless you sometimes translate sweetheart into the mix its really hard to get the message across no matter how you try
Well after you read the translation, it was more than obvious that the song is about being hopelessly inlove with someone. And another thing, it isn't flamenco, its more burlesque... with alot of portuguese guitar playing. Nothing spanish in it al all.
The translation you were looking at could have been a better one...sometimes you can literally get lost in translation if you translate word by word, but you should be able to get the essence of the song! Interestingly, she chose to make this music entry entirely in Portuguese when she is a brilliant English lyricist judging by her other songs. Perhaps her vocals were not her best that evening as she was still recovering from a cold, that's why she was holding back at some points in the song...Anyway, this is a fun, energetic, and cool performance, and I am looking forward to seeing it on the Eurovision stage on May 9th.
Is it only me who thinks lyrics aren't that important in Eurovision? It's the music that really matters because there are many languages in contest... and sometimes translations aren't that good. Go Mimicat! You are amazing and you are my winner! ❤🇵🇹🇵🇹
Georgina, I've been anxiously waiting for your technical reaction to Portugal entry to ESC 2023, which is an important one, but I think this time you missed the translation of the song lyrics and this had an impact on your evaluation of the amazing Mimicat's "Ai ❤". Go Portugal!
The cultural elements in the song are actually not just Spanish (castanets mainly), but it also has Portuguese cultural influences, mainly the guitar riffs. The way she sings is inspired by fado singers and the song itself had fado instrumentation in early experimentations, as Mimicat herself said in some interviews. "Coração" means "heart", but it could also be used as a vocative to call someone you love as in "sweetheart", "baby" or "darling". So the lyrics play on that, talking about the way her body is reacting to her emotions and she questions the one she loves if they are hers.
Please... This song is just mesmerizing. You have other taste its fine but ... Be honest. This girl Mimicat ❤️ is other dimension. A great Singer with no budget She is a icon🥰
Vocal Coach Approach: 1:53 "Lets watch".... I rest my case. And then the cherry on the cake! 8:05 First a smile than. "There's not much going on lyrically." WTF since when do you speak portuguese?
I think you must have had a reply on the meaning of the lyrics already but if you didn’t, here I go: In this song Mimicat is speaking to her own heart kind of telling it off because it seems to be betraying by falling in love for someone. She goes through all the physical reactions and struggles of falling in love without knowing if she is loved back or not. At the same time, we use the exact same word “coracao” (heart) to mean my sweetheart or my love in Portuguese and she uses that double meaning very well when she asks her sweetheart if he’s hers, if he loves her back. We have a lot of double meanings in Portuguese such as this one and we often use them for fun. Despite all the struggles and what seems to be a intense passion, she uses some humour about it and gives hints of laughing about herself and her current condition, which is very Portuguese as well - singing and laughing about the pain so it’s less painful. This song could not get much more Portuguese than this and I love it because of it! I am really proud of her and I just hope people can think and feel it, out of the box, and vote so that she qualifies.
Thanks for the comment, you can be sure that the music and the stage will have the proper arrangements to be at a great level in the semi-final, mimicat is a very talented artist, with great experience, to join this , RTP where the professionalism is a lot. Finally, I think georgina will still spend €1 to vote for mimicat😂
As a Portuguese person I am writing this because, from all the comments I read here, there is none explaining this. So... the title is "Ai Coração", which literally means "O heart". However, the word "coração" (heart) can also be used when someone is calling their lover, just like the English "sweetheart", "honey", "baby", etc. That's why for a person who speaks English but not Portuguese it may be difficult to understand why they're saying "coração" all the time. So we conclude that this song is about a person who is not dealing so well with all the uncertainties about their love and their lover.
Hey Georgina! Small tip - you can now watch videos of songs which are non-english with English subtitles now on the Eurovision RUclips channel - if you want to see the English lyrics while listening.
This is one of the songs I didn't even have to understand what it's about to love, but Serbia for example I still didn't like at all even after looking up the lyrics in English.
I absolutely love your honest take on Eurovision songs. I’m sure Pedro will tell you, but the song's lyrics talk about the symptoms of when you fall in love. She talks about her frustration for not being in control of her own heart, and I find she translates that well in her dance choreography. I’m incredibly proud of this song! Hoping she can shine through all these great acts tonight. Thank you for your time and dedication ❤
As I understand it the whole point of this reaction series is to go into the reaction of all the songs blind. So without having heard or read about it, without context. To best simulate the circumstances of the average Eurovision watcher / voter. As the strong majority of viewers won’t have looked up any of the songs before, and just hearing the song for the first time at the Eurovision Semi or even Finale. Without really any context. But with the added layer of having some comments on technique from a vocal coach.
She lost her heart. She cant control anymore more her fellings . Your heart no longer belongs to her. My english is not a good thing, but i can say that translation does not do justice to what she says in Portuguese. In the end, i think she is in a toxic relationship.
You need to know more about portugal. Do not compare our portuguese guitar with spain and it's not flamenco. We have ours roots. Mimicat is a fun e happy song and she speaks from her passionate heart in a fun way. For me the music is captivating and more you listen to it the more fantastic it becomes. But if you don't like is natural to. Thank you for your reaction
In case Pedro didn't have a chance to help... I think Coracao refers to the man she is in love with meaning: my love, baby. I read that she was a bit ill on that day, so her voice was not there 100%. That could explain the tightness. Love this song and as usual your reactions and by your reaction I can tell it will grow on you a lot more. Can't wait to your reaction to Georgia!
What you don't understand? The woman is crazy in love and passion!
😂
She doesn't understand Lyrics from her vocal honesty... 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂...She listen even spanish flamenco influence...🤣🤣🤣...OMG...
I was thinking the same. How could she not understand what this song is about even after she read the translation....
Definitely one of the stronger vocalists in this year's lineup
indeed very happy to have her represent us
This song is so catchy and addictive she really represents the Portuguese culture in her music what an amazing song. 12 points from France to Portugal
Agree!!! 12 points from Germany too!!! 😘
this is more moulin rouge style than portugal style tbf but yes i'm happy with her representing us given the alternatives.
É português
Eu penso que a música é exatamente isso!
this is true the 'ai coração' expression translated properly means 'my heart is going to explode'
A isso chama-se dar expressão à música... please... se a sra não sabe isso dedique-se a terapia da fala apenas e somente!
It's really hard to translate properly to English
Is not Spanish, it is portuguese culture
This is moulin rouge culture more than portugal we just copy it really hahaha
It's both, plus French and Balkan influences. Mimicat dixit, in her interviews :P
Portuguese culture has not much! It’s a mix of burlesque with flamenco!
Portuguese guitar, a little burlesque and flamenco and a love issue.
Os ingleses, na sua maioria só conhecem Espanha, dão espanhol na escola... Eu estive lá, sei como é. São uns autênticos calhaus, a verdade é esta.
Exactly
Brazilian here and I LOVE THE LYRICS

simulate arrhythmias doesn't make that much sense tbh
Absolutely spot on!
Spain and Portugal may have a lot in common but still, these are 2 different countries, cultures and languages
Nothing Spanish about it… they’re Portuguese sounds and guitar with a burlesque flair… she’s singing about being completely in love so much so her heart is aching. Go 🇵🇹❤Mimicat

Not sure bout 12 but my guess is that they surely get some points from French people if Portugal will qualify to the final.
Mercy!

That’s exactly this!! Well done hehe

The song title literally translates to "Oh, Heart" but the meaning in English would be something like "Oh My Heart" - she is talking to her heart and to her lover and wondering what to do next. 😁
I personally Love this performance. It is so fun to watch. I just love it for what it is
I want Portugal in the top 5 this year. Thanks for the reaction!! 💚💛❤️
Impossível, há prai 15 músicas que estão a fazer um furor incrível a nível mundial e são mesmo muito boas

I mean if Salvador somehow won, Tatanka should've won in 2021 and this one needs to win too
There are some people that don't get tradition. For example, you didn't like spain or Portugal but you love Sweden, the most comercial one. Well... It is just taste
🇪🇸❤🇵🇹
Or lack of it.
The spanish is beautiful.
Sweden and Norway songs have a good sound, but I dont get the hype...
It's not pure Fado but it makes me shout "Ah, fadista!" at the end of the song. 😁
Exactamente, Ant. Eu diria que isso se deve em parte à própria fonética do nosso português. Cumprimentos.
Português falado em Portugal também é assim. No Brasil falamos com as vogais bem mais abertas.
Woman, probably this was your worst review so far. To me this is brilliant and I'm from Sweeden. Voice, charisma, style, everything is on point.
Thanks from Portugal ❤ Agree with you
from the perspective of a trained vocalist I fully agree on her points about the vocals.
I think there still is plenty to be enjoyed about the performance
And the vocal quality in chorus might be a stylistic choice.
Obrigado, we thinsk so, love from🇵🇹 to Sweden.
Im from portugal and i hated this song. Congrats for the win
Very well said! :)
she is lost in another dimension because she gave her heart to someone because we were lost in love, for this reason she questions whether she still has a heart, because she does not have control over it - the music has Mediterranean sounds mixed with a Portuguese guitar
Finallyyyyyy 🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹
Love from Portugal
Go Mimicat ❤
Out of all the songs this year this is the one I can't stop listening to. It stands out from all the rest in the best way.
Xaval, aplaudo a tua dedicação neste comentário de youtube (mas isto merece o seu proprio livejourney)
Congratulations!!! Both Georgina and João know what they're talking about!!! Couldn't agree more with you, João!!!
@@envoltaemla6652 aha vou levar o backhanded compliment como um elogio. 😂
Não costumo reservar este grau de detalhe a não ser para os profissionais, e aqui é como se estivesse a falar com uma colega… porque tecnicamente é. :P
The tension and lack of resonance in the chorus is a typical Portuguese style of singing and the phonetic of their language.
Honestly she is just going by its position in the odds and feels like she shouldn't be liking it.
Its about being madly in love. Your heart does not let you think with reason.
I was waiting for so long about this one. The lyrics is some kind about a love breaking. And the sound was inspired by Portuguese traditional music, like Malhao Malhao, made famous by Linda de Souza
Not love breaking, but being madly in love.
finally...here we got music 🙂
love this entry.
Oh gosh... she is just crazy in love. Simple as that
I feel that it sounded like she was not quite recovered from a cold in this performance. That would explain the tightness you mentioned.
In fact she was sick a few days before it
Yeah thats true
She was aphonic 2 weeks before, so
Mimicat is Amazing ❤❤❤
Oh girl please 🙄🙄🙄 12 points to portugal❤️
I love this song
I like the nationality and culteral elements come through in the song
YES!!!😂
For me who speak portuguese (brazilian portuguese btw) and english, the translate is a bit off, Mimicat uses a lot of "instranslatable" terms, terms that have a meaning in the background, no just the translate. That said, I really liked the music, go Portugal
Someone woke up in a bad mood :) For someone who kept asking for a fun entry with a nice choreography, this review felt a little bit too harsh. This year I completely disagree with you - Finland and Portugal are my favorites. All in all, I really like to watch you. Keep up the good work.
Exactly what I thought. We all have bad days. 🙂
I agree, i watched the semi and loved mimicat and cha cha cha song, but i also liked maltas sweater song too. Mimicat is my fav.
Not just that, but in a way you cannot reason about it or anything else for that matter.
There is not a lot going on lirically because the translation used is just so literal it does not make sense in English, but in Portuguese it totally makes sense without being cheap. There are certain expressions in Portuguese that cannot be translated without losing its meaning.
Mais um caso de incapacidade de abstracção... epah tantas musicas inglesas com letras dúbias e com duplos significados, esta youtuber é snoob e basta
Mimicat 🇵🇹 Portugal ❤️
Ai ❤️ Ai ❤️ Ai ❤️
Burlesque & Portuguese Guitar 🎶
Stunning Talented Fresh Fun Hot Charisma!!
Well said ☝
90% of the songs are about love so a song called oh my heart I think its easy to guess. 🤣🤣🤣
Arrghhhh I never understand the flamenco association 😅. Spain is bringing flamenco This year and has Nothing To do with This music. 😅
Yes exactly!!!!! When people listen Spain and Portugal this year, how they are not able to understand the difference? It's not possible
@@EZON-K i guess people think it’s flamenco not because of the music but because of the red dress.
Good song. May be a winner
She's madly in love....
Try watching with it with subtitles and knowing it's about anxiety when you fall in love.
Loveeeeeee it! So organic and real, everyone is going for modern and sophisticated and this is so Human and fun, carismatic and ethnic.
And what means violins playing and the angels crying? The lyrics are amazing about live and mental health.
🤣🤣🤣
The translation is bad.
I Love Portugals song ❤🎉 it's definitely a grower 😊
Important to note; Mimicat was quite ill when performing so I would assume her vocals aren't like this usually.
I loove this classic oldschool vibea of songa. It stands out tgisbyear with more then half of aongs being basic generic pop songs
The song is about her Heart that is crazy in love and she can't control
Portugal won Eurovision Song Contest in 2017 for the 1st time
Yea, on the other hand your favorites till now are Sweden and Australia (1).
It's about falling in love❤
Do you already felt this sensations?
Your heart comands your life and your soul...
And the music it's from PORTUGAL
Not flamenco!!!
love love ai Coração.... and Mimicat...gooo Portugal
❤ ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
the song has the all package. is all about anxiety.
Anxiety to be in love
My translation of the lyrics:
Oh heart
You wont leave me alone
You don't give me any peace
You leave me in limbo (unable to do anything)
My head and throat are tied in knots
That just wont undo, and yet you have no pity on me
I feel
crazy
each day it's getting worse
I can't even remember the things I knew by heart,
My heart rate just went up to almost a thousand
I feel completely crazy, totally out of my mind.
My chest is on fire,
My mouth is dry
I don't know
What to do
being in love like this, for me, just won't do
Because it feels like I'm not me anymore
Oh heart
Oh heart
Tell me, are you mine?
The hours pass and I (still) cant fall asleep,
I can hear the owls and the neighbours too,
My common sense has left and isnt coming back
Someone snap me out of this state im in.
The Doctor said there's nothing he can do
"Lost cause" is what I saw him write
I'm stuck in another dimension
I'm just one big confused mess
My chest is on fire
My mouth is dry
I don't know
What to do
Love like this for me, just won't do
Because I just don't feel like myself anymore
Oh heart
Oh heart
Oh heart
Tell me, are you mine?
My chest is on fire
My mouth is dry
I don't know
What to do
Love like this for me, just won't do
Because I just don't feel like myself anymore
Oh heart
Oh heart
Oh heart
Oh heart
Tell me, are you mine?
the main issue with the translations is that we use both heart for the organ and for sweetheart, and she is mixing both meanings in the song, so unless you sometimes translate sweetheart into the mix its really hard to get the message across no matter how you try
The head voice is meant to sound like that. Is tied to the lyrics and intentionally meant to sound that way
She is describing the feeling of being in love basically. 😂
the song is about anxiety
Is it only me who thinks lyrics aren't that important in Eurovision? It's the music that really matters because there are many languages in contest... and sometimes translations aren't that good. Go Mimicat! You are amazing and you are my winner! ❤🇵🇹🇵🇹
yeah look at the lyrics about a Tatto and Cha cha cha, this one is lot better
Georgina, I've been anxiously waiting for your technical reaction to Portugal entry to ESC 2023, which is an important one, but I think this time you missed the translation of the song lyrics and this had an impact on your evaluation of the amazing Mimicat's "Ai ❤". Go Portugal!
Mimicat❤️💃🏼
Mimicat ❤❤❤❤ 🇵🇹🇵🇹🇵🇹
The cultural elements in the song are actually not just Spanish (castanets mainly), but it also has Portuguese cultural influences, mainly the guitar riffs. The way she sings is inspired by fado singers and the song itself had fado instrumentation in early experimentations, as Mimicat herself said in some interviews.
"Coração" means "heart", but it could also be used as a vocative to call someone you love as in "sweetheart", "baby" or "darling". So the lyrics play on that, talking about the way her body is reacting to her emotions and she questions the one she loves if they are hers.
This is an attempt to break with generic pop that has invaded Eurovision. Everything looks the same.
It's a fresh, happy sound.
Amazing Song.
I think you must have had a reply on the meaning of the lyrics already but if you didn’t, here I go:
In this song Mimicat is speaking to her own heart kind of telling it off because it seems to be betraying by falling in love for someone.
You forgot mention the Portuguese Guitar... Listen again the instruments, please. Sorry my poor engish. Regards from Lisboa.
Nothing Spanish of it, just Portuguese culture
Ai❤
Thanks for the comment, you can be sure that the music and the stage will have the proper arrangements to be at a great level in the semi-final, mimicat is a very talented artist, with great experience, to join this , RTP where the professionalism is a lot. Finally, I think georgina will still spend €1 to vote for mimicat😂
she is singing about a inlove heart
her heart is a conversation between her and her heart as if her hart had live on it self, get it?
I love the new background! It’s so beautiful and calm.
A vocalista tinha estado doente e sem voz, ainda assim cantou bem.
Spanish? What reminds me of Spain is the red colour of the dresses. But then, you have red in cabaret songs, Moulin Rouge, for instance
If you don't understand or if you're not sure about something, don't comment please.
Hello Georgina. The lyrics of this song are ironic, so the music fits with it.
she was very sick before this performance, she even losted her voice.
best portuguese eurovision song! ❤❤mimicat ❤❤ AI CORAÇÃO!
Portugal!!!!!!!!!
this song is about anxiety and how your hear plays with it, and no there is no spanish element in it.
Its not Spanish elements are quite 🇵🇹, by th way this is Portugal sending love to all, in a year full of war and sadness.
It's about being madly in love...
