  • This isn't my normal format but I felt the need to share my experience with a Copart "Buy it Now" B8 S4. Not only did it have major mileage issues, but under the hood was hiding a mess that I only discovered with a lot of digging. Posting this to educate and warn others of the risk of buying through Copart.

      Well it did last 180k miles before a major issue! I’d say that’s pretty good… especially for an Audi sports car!

    This is not on Copart but the owner of the vehicle, at this point Copart is being scammed which is being passed to the buyer. Copart has hundreds of thousands if not millions of vehicles on inventory and a car report really adds up to them which is why they really encourage this type of DD 9n the buyers part. You did an awesome detective work by researching this car but the true mastermind on this scheme is on the seller and not the middle man (Copart).

    Don't praise CarFax, bought it and it said the car is clean, while litteraly it was up for sale in Copart as a flood car :D

    Glad you didnt get scammed. You didn't think it was weird that the 1st car report showed 85k miles in 2013? Not being driven for 10 yrs would have been a red flag immediately.

      Yea, it is strange. I did have the thought but at the time I think I was just excited the Autocheck showed similar mileage. I guess someone could have garaged it and just drove a few hundred miles a year, but not likely!

    i bought many minor wear cars with transmission & engine damage (mostly misfires)...you have to see the cars in person.

    you said previous S4 (b7) timing chain issue, but the B8 and B8.5 got also chain issues, less dramatic since you can see the stretch by vcds and hear it, but still an issue on those.
    Also I was on the market for a bmw 335xi 6mt, and I did the EXACT same process as you. A was on copart, but really wanted to see and speak about the car, so I scraped the copart idea.. Found the shop , call the shop. And the shop says, listen the guy put 8k$ this year, this car is in perfect shape, great buy. BUT, clutch need to be done and 1 turbo seems to leak.
    As a car guy, it was a done deal, since those issue discouraged the owner, but for me it was a opportunity to upgrade the parts.
    No regret so far, and it was half the market price.

    Copart does list the millage as expect which is a first red flag to investigate.
    For anyone looking at buying from Copart seriously, definitely order their inspection service (from Copart is a good value).
    You will get more photos and videos of the car running and being moved. Possibly could have heard the engine damage.
    Always Carfax too of course.

    Common sense says if it sounds too good to be true it is period you don't have to do any research or waste time to have simple wisdom. But everyone wants to get something really good for free. The reality is things that are really good and have value will always cost the price

  • @truracer20
    @truracer20 8 месяцев назад +3

    The buy it now price somewhat reflects the value of the car needing the engine replaced. $6,000 for the car, $3500 for a used engine, $1500 to install the engine= $11,000. Compared to the cheapest one you found having 145,000 miles for $14,000 it seems a fair price for someone intending to keep the car, since there really isn't any meat on the bone for someone to make a profit. Though I guess if it didn't have the odometer tampered with a slight profit could have been realized...But now there is going to be a branded title for the odometer discrepancy, unless the 1 magically reappears.

    • @fixedoncars
      @fixedoncars  8 месяцев назад +1

      Agree. The price wouldn’t have been bad given the condition if both the odometer and engine issues were disclosed. I feel like there was some deceptive practices going on to cover both of these issues up… that’s my main gripe. Someone likely bought this thinking it had 89k miles and “runs and drives”. In reality, neither of those are true.
