      Finally someone had talked about this, I worked at the restoration department from 1996-1997, it was certainly…odd. For the whole of 1996 I worked replacing decaying wood inside the Olympic, there was always a foul stench in the ship no matter what we throw out or replaced. When I asked the company official’s what it was. They would just say ask white star line. Sometimes the stench was so bad that we burnt candles and covered our faces to drown out the smell, but then a few minutes later it would be even worse than before. I quit job in 97 after a accident in the Olympic, the floors where someone damaged even though we had repaired them and i fell through them and broke my legs, I was compensated and told never to tell the public about the existence of the ships. The only reason I speak up now is that the truth and already been exposed. I do still wonder to this day why they told the public that they scrapped the Olympic and many other famous ships even though they still exist like the queen Mary.

    Theres something so alien, for lack of a better term, about seeing the Olympic in a time such as the 1990s
    usually you’d think about the Olympic in an era such as the 1910s, 20s, and early 30s, that you never take into consideration about the idea of the Olympic, or the olympic class in general existing in an era like the 90s
    Its almost comforting to see it in such a modern time period, with colored cameras, new technology, etc

    I believe the mesh is what caused Mauretania to be abandoned for all that time and when Olympic came to her, the same thing happened to her but flung her into the 90s

  • @Curlicuecurli
    @Curlicuecurli 3 месяца назад +76

    I’m gonna throw my hat into the ring. I think the reason why Olympic is still around and in her original 1911 form is that she was too dangerous to refit or scrap due to the mesh. Perhaps it also caused her to not decay as she is in splendid condition for a ship which realistically would have needed major renovations by the 50s. Now why they wouldn’t have sunk her I don’t know. My second theory (and the one I think is more likely) is that she was taken over by the mesh like Mauritania was and was randomly found years later in the 90s.

    • @NorthWestern1919
      @NorthWestern1919 3 месяца назад +13

      Going off that first part about the mesh keeping Olympic in her original 1911 condition, keeping in mind that the employees of Project Britannica are installing modern things like vending machines, sound systems, and replacing much of the 1911 furniture in the staterooms with things like televisions, I don't think the mesh would take too kindly to that.

    As a fellow Analog horror creator, it's always good to see some inspiring ideas like these!

  • @Master_of_disasters
    @Master_of_disasters 3 месяца назад +37

    I feel as if the mesh forms some sort of symbiotic relationship with the liners it becomes one with, as it seems to gain something from them, possibly food or sustenance. Something really interesting is that the Mauretania had a "harsh stench" coming from it, and we can assume we know, there were no human bodies on board, so what was the smell? I think it's one of the mesh's defense mechanisms. It uses the foul smell to deter it's predators/competition (humans?) like a skunk would
    This might also explain why the mesh made all those people disappear, it saw them as competitors for it's food source. Also notice how the Mauritania wasn't seriously damaged by the mesh. I feel like this is because the mesh uses the ships as some sort of "shell" like hermit crabs do. This could explain why the Olympic is still around after around 85 years, the mesh has settled in and is fighting off any threats to the Olympic.
    I also feel like the reason the mesh seemingly moved on from Mauritania is because it had grown too big for the Mauritania, and saw the Olympic (which was around 100ft longer) as a good replacement "shell" due to her size
    Tldr: i think the mesh is a weird creature that feeds off of and lives inside of ships, and it transfers between ships when it gets too big for the original ship, and it sees humans as threats to it's growth
    4:17 also, can someone tell mac to move his tools? Its been 28 years and i don't think he's moved them

    • @nottelling8129
      @nottelling8129 3 месяца назад +4

      I think a more apt description would be “Parasitic.” From what we know about The Mesh as of right now, it can’t exist/survive/thrive without a host (In this case, a ship). The only reason the ship is in such good condition is likely for the Mesh’s own benefit. If it just let the ship rot, it would eventually sink. The Mesh does this to attract humans, likely taking advantage of curiosity and general human nature. For what purpose? We can only guess.
      Also, MOVE YOUR FUCKING TOOLS, MAC!

    Very good! Don't know how I didn't find this channel before, but I subscribed.
    Even if it's not actually about the Titanic, I'm glad it's about the Olympic, "Old Reliable" is my favorite of the trio anyways.
    Here's an interesting note: The video says Olympic found the abandoned Mauretania on June 17th, 1911. In real life, Olympic's first transatlantic crossing was from June 14th-21st, 1911, meaning Olympic encountered the ghost ship Mauretania on her maiden voyage. Whatever is going on here has plagued the Olympic since the very start.
    I look forward to seeing where this goes next! Considering in this alternate universe we have a preserved Olympic and a ghost ship Mauretania, I wonder how else ocean liner history may be altered. Something is very, very wrong. Destroy the mesh.

    Nice! I've always thought Olympic or Titanic would make for a great horror game, especially when I watched tours of the ship from Honor and Glory. Something about how the walls, pannels, and furnitures are so grand and well-polished looked unsettling and uncanny for some reason, like those Backrooms games / analog horror videos. It makes for a great environment to slap some horror into. Like, maybe the protagonist has been sent to investigate the sudden re-appearance of the ship but gets haunted by the ones who died in the sinking; having to fend himself off from the dangers aboard the huge ship. And maybe some lore to it too. I would love to see that come to life.

The objective of the mission was to have the olympic patched and towed to shore. While exploring the ship, they soon find out something sinister and evil lurks behind every corner. This is so cool, but also kind of hurts to see. In the infinite possibilities of things that can happen in the universe, this could have been one of them. This video could have been real. One of these ships could still be here today with nostalgic restoration footage from the 90s. Such a shame that preserving these monsters was so impractical. Very cool animation.

    Points of interest I found.
    .
    .
    .
    .
    1:21 "WHY DID THEY KEEP OLYMPIC"
    3:22 "FOUND THE BOYS NOW PART OF THE LIFT"
    4:00 and onward, hints of future changes to the Olympic, like Coca cola machines, a "Muzak music system" playing music throughout the ship, orange traffic cones etc. Mention of updating cabins with TV-sets.
    5:02 Destroy the mesh, mention 1
    5:26 - 5:35 "THE STENCH IS HORRID. ITS SINGING TO US."
    5:37 Destroy the mesh, mention 2
    5:43 Traffic views from 1996, filmed somewhere in England. Probably close to the later view of South Shields at 6:32.
    7:18 Zoom in shows birds flying across to the Olympic, seemingly vanishing mid air.

    I like your series, and found it underrated and intriguing. Back in 2015 I was a big “fan” of the titanic disaster, and other boat disasters. But i would like to know why you think the date in this series is 1987? Considering titanic sank in 1912 and Brittanic in the First World War. And the Olympic was scrapped in the early 30’s. There were cameras back in 1920

    This is amazing! Makes me wonder why Chaosium has never released an official Call of Cthulhu game module based on the Titanic. We homebrewed one a couple of decades ago, and Adam Gauntlett's "The Millionaire's Special" is okay, but something AU and off the rails like this would make a superior module.

    Royal Mail Ship "Olympic" Doesn't get scrapped after almost 90 years of service... And it doesn't even look old...
    The ship itself is getting renovated, and no "At that time" equipment is being installed...

    And "The Mesh" (Do lie to me, its THE FLESH) is still present...

    Towards the end of the video, when the camera zooms into Olympic’s funnels you can hear a low groan, i assume that’s either “The Mesh” making that noise, as Olympic wouldn’t just make that noise out of complete random. Also looking at it closer, the birds seem to just vanish out of thin air when they fly by her funnels.
    Ps. Amazing video Jack, i watched the whole series, and i’m a little curious here. What’s the music used at the end of this video?
