I have to say this video about the life of the RMS Lusitania was absolutely amazing, well done 👍
so basically a war crime
Love the face in the cloud to the left of the date/time at 0:12 😂
Guy's baked
The Capt tried to beach the ship but the forward motion just pushed water in at a faster rate. In a war zone, the ships portholes should have been shut. This might have given her an additional 10 or 12 minutes on the surface.
Honest question Could one have swum to the shore?
She was miles/kilometers away, it would have been almost impossible unfortunately And even if some succeeded in reaching the shore, they would quickly realize that it was more breakers and cliffs than beaches
By sheer looks, the Lusitania is my favorite ocean liner. Such an incredibly beautiful ship!
What is the deal with life boats literally never working
The crew in charge of normally launching the lifeboats were stuck in the cargo elevators (they were preparing the luggages of the passengers for the arrival in port) when the power went down And with such high pressure on the crew actually launching them and the way the ship listed so badly, the way the people rushed to board them and the quick sinking of the ship - I think we would have all messed up here honestly
Is there an airbag system for boats? That might keep her afloat longer. Surround the boat with bags and inflate during emergency.
We are talking about a 44.000 tons ship, I unfortunately don’t think that airbags would help here 😅
@@whillard2447 We raise ships and artifacts with this very method. I'm sure we could calculate it. We did manufacture a giant and heavy ship with air in it to float. It holds itself upright just fine. I did say, keep afloat longer. I asked to know if airbags are a thing, not an opinion on function.
Just a note, at 13 mins the text says she was "even keel", but I think you meant "upright" If the ship has no list, it is upright. If it has no trim it is even keel.
Hey, you’re right ! I’ve just learned that right now thanks to you, I always assumed that an even keel was having the ship upright :0
Were’s the second explosion?
At 4:22 😅

16:33 it feels like, Lusitania only there when someone needs her, but when she need someone, nobody cares and didn't came.
I Believe the sinking of the Lusitania was a war crime
Well, it was - indeed
@@whillard2447 Some people dont think it was a war crime whence why I commented that.
@@mrbig4514 Yes indeed, but in this case you can just remove the "I believe" part - because it’s already the true ^^’
No it was not a war crime. But it is HIGHLY debated if it was. Lusitania was carrying ammunition. Germany knew about that and thus made it a legitimate target for them. The Hague Convention of 1907 allowed to attack civilian ships, if they transported military supplies. Germanys unrestricted submarine warfare though violated establish principles of warfare at the time. Because submarines were a new thing and it was said to warn ships before they engange in an attack. But thats a different topic. So ultimately, by the laws of the time, no it was certainly not a war crime. Yet it remains a highly morally and politically, controversial act to attack a civilian liner. The broader concept of war crimes, particularly the protection of civilians, would develop later in the 20th century after the atrocities of both World Wars.
The germans ruin everything.
The reason she was torpedoed because Allied using civilian ocean liner for carrying weapon. So either lusitania carry the weapon or not she just unfortunate collateral damage
The germans had no idea about the ammunitions, they just said that she carried some in order to justify its sinking - bu they could have never known It’s just pure luck for the germans that she indeed carried ammunitions
It wasn't murdered they had munitions on board
And the germans could have never known for certain that she carried ammunitions… it’s a warcrime
This is great! The new animation is very realistic, your level has increased a lot! Do you mind if we get to know each other?
You should do the titanic. You have more talent then I have had my entire life.
He already did, he’s the animator for Titanic : Honor & Glory ; and Oceanliner Designs ;)
USS Liberty is a modern tragedy. So much betrayal
If she was a ligitamet war target, then the pasengers were used as human shields...AKA ..hostages.
The only issue is that the germans had no idea she was carrying ammunitions… it was only pure luck for them that she happened to carry some in her cargo
Was she transporting munitions for the war? If so she is a legitamet target.
Of course, the guy with the German sounding name says this.
She did transported ammutions, but the german had no idea she was - they only said that she was in order to justify its sinking, it was just pure luck for them that she did carried some
LOL look at em dyin
Why weren't the blast doors shut?
So just massive incompetence with lifeboat management then?
The crew that were normally in charge of operating the lifeboat were stuck in the elevators of the cargo holds as they were taking luggages up to get the passengers stuff ready for the arrival in port - and the crew that was then lowering the lifeboats weren’t trained well enough… and the pressure put on them as the ship sinks and lists so quickly underneath them with hundreds of people trying to save themselves… I can understand why so many lifeboats failed to be launched
0:43,The mesh just giving an "ello guv'nor"
Harrowing!
Life Boats ... or death boats?
Fantastic job. I have contemplated diving the Lusitania for years. It is like the Everest of diving. Great attention to detail. Beautifully animated.
I had a relative who was kill on that boat!
Was it really that close to shore?
Yes, she was Agonizingly close enough to see it, but too far to swim to it
The torpedo looked like it exploded before it's wake reached the ship.
Because the torpedo is underwater and she’s as long as a truck - the wake takes a few seconds before reaching the surface
2:45 not sure sure if that whale is historical correct.
It’s a wave 🌊
@@whillard2447 It was sarcasm from my part :)
@@thetruth7633 oh, my bad then lol
This is supposed to be in memoriam out of respect yet you have comical animations of figures quickly sliding along a deck like they are on an escalator. It makes it hard to treat this seriously when they could even be bothered to model the passengers with any animation at all. They look like plastic figurines. Plus there is no way to know exactly how this ship sank as records were not that accurate at that time.
This is supposed to be a sinking animation, at least the passengers are modeled and moving - I’ll invite you to try to animate hundreds of people in crows like this And we now better know how the ship sank, that’s what researches are here for
Despite the protestations of Britain and the USA, RMS Lusitania was actually carrying arms and war supplies in its cargo area, as Germany correctly guessed. The Allied commanders that used the passengers/civilians as human shields should be the ones condemned for this tragedy, not Captain Schweiger who fired on a legitimate wartime target.
The ship that brought America into the War.
While it did helped America to choose which side to join in the conflict, the Lusitania wasn’t the main reason for the US to enter the war - almost 2 years after this tragic war crime
Good thing they had lifeboats 😂
was there no water tight bulk heads or was there too much damage? seems weird to use wooden ones
When Jack is talking about wooden bulkheads, he’s referring to the wood paneling - the watertight bulkheads were made out of steal like the rest of the hull, and Lusitania could withstand having 2 of them flooded However, with the watertight doors opened - the initial explosion could have jammed some of them and stop them from closing ; while the second explosion might have simply obliterated some bulkheads - making Lusitania sink faster (I’m not sure if some of her portholes were opened, if so it could have played a significant role into this quick sinking)
@@whillard2447 makes sense, thx, sounds like lusitania and britannic suffered a similar fate
What kind of an animal was the captain of the sub?!
Well, as he said - he just wanted to give Lusitania a 'bloody nose' and wasn’t expecting the torpedo damages to be so severe toward the ship Even his torpedo officer said that the destruction caused by this single torpedo were unusually heavy, they didn’t expected to sink her at all - Captain Schwiegger also said that he couldn’t even dare to fire a second torpedo into this mess of people trying to save their souls, and dived his submarine back to 20 meters as he thought that she was escorted
@whillard2447 not the point, anyone foolish enough to fire a torpedo at a passenger liner needs to be charged like the insane criminal he was! No one can convince me that he thought ANY contact to the ship from that much TNT would only result in a "blood nose" is not mentally stable enough to even be on a sub, much less captain one.
@@heels-villeshoerepairs8613 Well, one day you’ll learn about war-crime and how U-Boats operated in the English channel, but I do believe him when he said he only expected to give her a bloody nose, if it wasn’t for the second boiler explosion the ship might have stayed afloat And I think that his torpedo officer is more qualified than any of us here to know if the damages caused by his arsenal are unusually severe or not Beside, Captain Schwieger died during WWI in September of 1917 in the North Sea
FIREMAN CHARLES JOHN PARDEW Regiment & Unit/Ship Mercantile Marine S.S. "Lusitania" (Liverpool) Date of Death Died 07 May 1915 Age 57 years old Buried or commemorated at TOWER HILL MEMORIAL
My relative was killed on her
The boiler explosion is what killed the ship.
The video is first rate. But let's face reality over this incident. Germany warned in the NY papers this was a war target. The British, having easily the largest navy in the world at that time, could have sent out escorts to protect the ship, but chose not to do that. Why? Because as they were again 25 years later, they were desperate to get the US involved in the war. So maybe this was their chance. A major incident, with US citizens involved. So when it comes right down to it, the UK was as responsible for these deaths as Germany was. Your government doesn't have your best interests at heart.
The Lusitania was supposed be a diplomatic ship (transporting passengers and diplomats from both countries, it was the only way since passenger airplanes didn’t existed… hence why oceanliners were there) and was thought to be fast enough to evade any U-Boat threat (and she was), unlike most of the Royal Navy ships She was a passenger ship, attacking her was a war crime - but U-20 having a plain sight on her really only depended on pure luck, as she steamed away back to the Atlantic Ocean because she was arriving too early to enter the river Mersey and would have had to wait The US didn’t joined the war because Lusitania sank, it took them almost 2 years afterwards to join the conflict - but Lusitania sinking sure helped them to decide which side to join in the war
Fantastic work. Can I ask what program/programs were used to make this? Incredible !!
He’s using Unreal Engine 5 :)
@@whillard2447 Thanks. I'll check it out !
Very good work. However, to be fair to history you should include the reason why the torpedo was launched, what the ship was accused of carrying and what was found in the ship by deep sea rovers decades later. Was it murder at sea or a justified act of war?
They had absolutely no clue about what the ship was carrying, except passengers The weapons ammunitions allegations were just an attempt to make it a justifiable target - even though it was indeed true, they didn’t knew for sure if it was So they simply targeted a passenger liner, encountering it by pure luck - if it really was a target of war, it would have been pursuit
One mistake that is always made in these type of presentations is that submarines or submersible boats did not attack underwater, but on the surface much like a torpedo boat would. Submerging only after the attack and sinking of the target ship was made!
Well U-20 only had its periscope peaking out of the water - nothing else, how do you want to be stealthy if you’re at the surface like a normal ship?
