People say Meg's drumming sucks. Like... fuck, do you want Joey Jordison or Buddy Rich up there? NO. Meg IS what makes the Stripes the White Stripes. Get over it. She kicks ass, Jack kicks ass, and together they changed music. Deal with it.
To be fair her drumming does suck in the scheme of skill level judgement but at the same time her style perfectly suits the music which is built around that style.. so she rips, in this particular format :)
this concert, which was filmed in Blackpool, UK, was filmed with multiple 35mm cameras if i remember correctly, so the quality wasn’t great to begin with, but it was intentional ;)
i saw this video in the summer of 2018 and the intensity and passion that is radiating off of these two humans as they make their music inspired me, a 43 year old stay at home mom who had never once attempted to play any type of musical instrument in my life, to try to learn to play guitar. it’s been five years and i still suck but it’s fun as heck and doing it has added greatly to my enjoyment of life on multiple levels. i am forever grateful to the white stripes for spurring me on this awesome new adventure - one i had always assumed was beyond my reach.
+Rob Fraser there's been a few media accounts of Jack being a bit of a dick but such is being as popular as he is. however, compared to others, you can tell from his interviews and whatnot he really seems like a truly down-to-earth guy that does it for the music, albeit quite eccentric, and undoubtedly incredibly talented. Anyway he's certainly my favorite musician and my greatest inspiration on the music front. I mean literally every single piece of music he has been involved in I absolutely adore.
Both are great musicians but actually they took the riffs off Eddie James's "Death Letter Blues"... Zeppelin on "Celebration Day" and White Stripes on this cover "Death Letter" (including the lyrics). White and Page transformed the blues riffs into great sounds but the thing is they don't share any kind of credit or tribute not even a mention to raise the name of the real master mind behind their songs... if Jack White is "the Magician" and Page is "the Wizard", Eddie James is mother f***** Merlin...
Watching this on Meg's birthday. Definitely prefer the live version to the album version for this one. Miss this band everyday, but so glad for all the music they gave us.
Meg follows him to perfection. Hard gig following the one and only guitar around. She has swing and rhythm in spades. And of of course Jack White, such a talent.
Chaz Hegstrom The simplicity meshed quite well with Jack's style of playing. In fact, it was good enough to launch Jack into the mainstream spotlight, and when I compare what he's doing now to what he did then, he just sounds way better before than now. Just an opinion. And I'm not saying he's lacking anything now a days. I'm just saying that when I listen to Jack, less is more, IMO.
miikesnow50 "less is more" has basically been the motto of blues since, like, forever. It's about simplicity, and Jack sure has mastered it, but also does what he wants with it and gets carried away, which is great to watch live.
Seth Hall you are absolutely correct, I’ve seen some stuff but this blows me to pieces every single time I watch it (which happens to be quite a lot 😂)
Returning to this clip over and over - haven't found another one better! This must be the White Stripes at it's best! Brilliant in it's quirkiness, and two individuals so connected that it gives the performance an added dimension. How I miss these two...
Fine musicianship. A bizarre combination of Son House songs. The narrator (in the original) is close to suicidal by the end of the song. I've sung "Death Letter Blues." It only works with the traditional North Mississippi pulse. I wear sunglasses when I sing it because I don't want the audience to see that I'm crying (literally). I want the audience to remain quiet, I want them to cry. I want them to experience pain and agony, if only second hand. The narrator of the song screwed up his relationship with his woman, and now she's dead. He assumed that they would get back together. Eventually. He took their relationship for granted. He wasn't there for her when she needed him the most. That's the blues.
Jack probably related to this song because even though him and Meg were already divorced at that point. I believe he still loves her and they probably got divorced because he took her for granite. I mean thats just what my gut tells me.
Could this be learnt or is Jack White just a master at what he does? I watch this over and over and think if there was one song I could play on the guitar with exactly the same sound this would be it. It's truly brilliant

I unironically, genuinely love Meg's drumming.
She's an excellent drummer. Totally responsive. People are just used to drummers with dicks and egos.
I think lots of people underestimate her just because she's a female drummer. Her tempo change is great and she's like a metronome.
As simple as the drums are, they are great for the music they deliver... The energy is insane
