    Hi Bold Bakers! Growing up, I never had corn syrup so I couldn't make a lot of recipes. With my corn syrup sub recipe, you can always have it on hand. Get the WRITTEN RECIPE: bit.ly/CornSyrupSub and I hope it comes in handy. :)

    My wife has severe allergies and a restricted diet, and corn syrup is on her do-not-eat list. Most of my recipes don’t call for corn syrup (it’s not like I’m baking pecan pies ever!) but the one recipe that I want to be able to use for my wife is 7-minute frosting, which does call for a little bit of corn syrup. This substitute is exactly what I needed, so thank you for sharing!

    Interesting vidéo, what coulld Cream of tartar be replaced if we can't find that?

    • @biggerbolderbaking
      @biggerbolderbaking  5 лет назад +1

      So the cream of tartar stops the corn syrup from crystalizing, so it is quite an important ingredient. If you leave it out, the syrup will harden. But you can leave it out if you do not have it. Just make sure you use the corn syrup fresh. Happy baking! Gemma 😊

    I love the Bold Baking Basics! It's so difficult to get certain ingredients in India, especially in my city, so these videos are really helpful! Unfortunately, one of them is cream of tartar, and online shopping takes a lot of time (about a week) to reach my place. I was wondering that if it's only an acid, shouldn't vinegar or lemon juice work too? A lot of corn syrup substitute recipes online call for it. Hope you have a good day!

    • @biggerbolderbaking
      @biggerbolderbaking  6 лет назад +1

      Unfortunately, there is no substitute for cream of tartar. You could omit it from the recipe, but do note that the syrup would crystalize. It is the cream of tartar that prevents this from happening. But the corn syrup sub should work well fresh :)

      Unfortunately, there is no substitute to cream of tartar in this recipe as this is the ingredient that will prevent the syrup from crystalizing. You can leave it out, but the syrup will crystalize and harden. If you have access to golden syrup, this is a good substitute to corn syrup too www.biggerbolderbaking.com/corn-syrup-substitute-homemade/

    Can you use beet sugar instead of cane or a sugar substitute like splenda?

    • @biggerbolderbaking
      @biggerbolderbaking  6 лет назад

      For this recipe, you will need a sugar that will caramelize. And unfortunately, splenda, stevia or beet sugar will not work

    so... i can use honey in making marshmallow fluff?? :)
    also can i substitute cream of tartar for lemon juice?

    • @biggerbolderbaking
      @biggerbolderbaking  5 лет назад

      Great questions! You can use vinegar instead of lemon juice in the corn syrup recipe www.biggerbolderbaking.com/corn-syrup-substitute-homemade/
      For the marshmallow fluff, some Bold Bakers have tried and have been successful with using honey instead of corn syrup. Give it a go and let me know www.biggerbolderbaking.com/homemade-marshmallow-fluff/comment-page-2/#comments

    To make dark corn syrup do you use brown sugar instead of white? Would there be any difference in making the dark other than the brown sugar?

    Heyy! What if my syrup turns a light brown colour and is a little thicker than yours. More like wax consistency. Can I still use this to make your rolled fondant?

    • @biggerbolderbaking
      @biggerbolderbaking  4 года назад +1

      This can be used in recipes that require corn syrup. So, yes, you can use it in rolled fondant.

    It's possible the syrup crystalized because it was stirred while cooking,
