My boys *love* old oatmeal containers as tunnels! Once you peal off the label and the plastic ring and cut the bottom out, it is the perfect chewable tunnel. We often tape multiple together to make a big tunnel, too!
Thank you for your video. 😊 And you can really actually save money. 🤩 So for example we go to a friend's riding stable who sell us the hay cheaply. Not only is it fresh, the piggies love it! And you can also build houses and shelters yourself. I bought the small, untreated wooden boxes from IKEA and took out the wooden boards on one side, turned them over and the piggies absolutely love lying in them. The boxes aren't too high either, so they can be placed on top. 😍
I was really excited watching your video and your adorable little guinea pigs!! I like your idea of making fleece bedding and others it really helpful. I also have 2 guinea pigs already.
Thank you for some really good tips Sarah. I cut out all pellets from my piggies diet about a year ago and they’ve been doing really well without them. Your piggies are adorable.
Yay we love a new video from you. Great tips and glad I am applying most of them already 😊 Our neighbours always hang up leftover veggies on our garden fence for the piggies, less waste for them and happy piggies and happy wallet! Although… every time pigmom sees a cute piggie tunnel, house or item- money has gone 😂
Ty Sarah, you’re so right about the pellets. I should’ve stopped a long time ago when I had my little teddy he didn’t really eat much of them, and I kept piling them and of course rinsing out the dish every other day, but it was a waste of money and I don’t think it was very healthy for him. I should’ve really started him off with more veggies, which I really wasn’t aware that I should give him that much vegetables I used to give him carrots certain ones he didn’t like, but then he grew like he was picky. He was a picky guy OK, but I think I should’ve stuck with the healthy veggies and fruits, but I don’t have to worry about that any longer, but I still enjoy your education on guinea pigs. This way I could help others and guide them as well, I told them about you and your channel too. Have a nice weekend thank you Sarah. The hay idea is awesome. ❤
Hiya! That's the sort of hay we've had since we were baby potatoes - a big bale of meadow hay - less dust than some timothy brands and lasts us a loooong time, even though we eat lots and lots of it and have a huge pile to play in as well! It makes us popcorn all over the place when we hear it rustling and see Mummy fill it up! We get extra dry forage/timothy hay box hay on top every other day or so for variety! Love from Bandit and Splodge xxxx
A hay bale bag will stop the hay mess in your car and your home and they store hay better than boxes or plastic bags which allow mould to grow. The bags last for years so the upfront cost is worth every penny.
I've never owned pigs before but I'm thinking about rescuing a couple. I was worried about cost, so I was thinking of buying a bale just like Sarah did in this video. I'm glad she did this so I know it's worth it, and thank YOU for mentioning the hale bay bag. I'm from a big city and never knew that was even a thing! 😂
I would be careful with baskets. The wood could be treated with something toxic, and they can also have very sharp points that can be dangerous. If it's a basket specifically made for piggies or small animals, I would be fine with that. But I wouldn't pick one up at Homegoods because Lord only knows what it's been treated with.
I started using the F10 cleaner after watching you ages ago and it lasts for ever!! It doesnt smell like the vinegar and you only need 2-4ml per litre of water for a full clean of my 6ft x 6ft c and c cage. I have also made some of your cozies, the pigs love them.
Cool, I had a barbeque in the summer and the corn husks from the corn on the cob🌽 lasted ages with my two, but they LOVE it!!! Really helpful video thanks Sarah 💯
This video was so informative. I was shocked to read in the Guinea Pig magazine that there is more calcium in pellets than in kale which is very high. I've cut down drastically. Thanks for all your advice and help. x
my husband and i went with a lower grade (and much thinner sadly) fleece liner set at the time we had a huge 6x6, 3x4 and 2x4 cages we got enough liners and later smaller pee pads to do a full cage clean so we had a good pile of pig laundry each week but we had enough that we could do that. it was a half the price of getting it all in Guinea dad liners which we would have preferred but still that was 3yrs ago now i think and we have only had to toss a couple potty pads because of pig damage and regular wear and tear. It was well worth getting them even if we did have to do it on Affirm payment plan threw Amazon and spend a year paying it off. We are also on Well water so for us its only the electric bill that would be added to the initial purchase price. I am thinking of getting a new set soon and might have the money to get higher quality and thicker pads from somewhere like Etsy.
I use normal farm hay as bedding in a hay box, but I have feed bags filled with Timothy hay hanging into the hay box. This way my piggy’s can play in and soil the hay and the feed hay stays clean
Using $4 bath mats from Walmart saved me so much money!! And to me they are less stinky than the fleece when soiled. Still stinky if you don't clean it obviously lol.
i prefer fleece TBH. cuter, and reuseable ( the only downside is the laundry part) I've tried disposable bedding but my girls would eat it and it got messy!
Great video and hay is amazing at how much you can spend and I found that I can cut my costs in going to tractor supply and honestly, a lot of costs can be how much you want to take the time to dyi in enrichments and if you want to try and make fleece. I do need to do fleece as I have skinny guinea pigs.
Thanks so much! Love these hacks! We get hay bales delivered from vale bale and we put it in and old wheely bin which lasts months! Your cage looked so weird with the paper bedding! Did the piggies end up enjoying it?
Hi, I live in Czech republic and working at the supermarket for several years. So we have a lot ,,free,, food for piggies or bunnies. Mostly it's a rubbish for people, but for animals it's a good food. Like leaves from kohlrabi, cauliflower, radish leaves, parsley and carrot leaves. I have job to throw this out, so I new few people who coming for this and they know me that I will leave this on the side for them if they asked me day before. Or lot's of salads we can sell only for one day like rucola, baby spinach or normal spinach, so on the evening it on 80% price off. So big 500g of baby spinach after discount is about fifty cents for whole bag. So lot of people going for it, maybe try a local store for these things. But I have no idea how this works in different countries, but it's a good option too :)
heyy! luv the vid. my older peanut {she abt four} guinea has hyper active thyroid and she had problems gaining weight. even tho she on med from our vet and critical care. any tips?
Sarah do you try to control how much pellets each individual pig is having? eg you don't pip them all in a bowl - you try and give each pig their own portion? Have you tried or been tempted by scattering pellets to mimic foraging?
Kind of! Giving them less means they tend to eat most of them straight away, so as shown Nacho gets the blue bowl because he gets bossy over it, Phoebe also likes to drink water from the bowl with her pellets so she gets a small pile on the fleece next to it, and Callie gets some in the small bowl by the water bottles 😊 if I don't separate Phoebe's out they will bicker over them! I don't really do scatter feeding as they do like to drink water with their pellets ❤️
@@SqueakDreams we've got 3 bickering ladies. I'd love to have one big litter and hay tray like you but even with just 2 of them in there they'd be bickering. You definitely wouldn't get all 3 jumping in and happily chomping away without arguing so we have ot have 3 separate hay trays haha
Sarah ,is the hay bale thesame as what the cows eat ? bc l live in a rural area and was thinking of getting a bale for my piggies but wanted to ask first .Thank you ❤
I think the hay was mainly for horses as there was a riding place next to the farm and they did seem to focus on producing high quality hay (horse people are very picky about their hay!), so it was grown organically, thistles and ragwort pulled etc. I actually found it by googling and they had a website and everything. Hope this helps!
Hey! I just came back from London and I went into my guinea room and I just saw that one of my guinea pig was not moving. He only moved a little bit for a little time and I could not think of a reason why. Do you maybe have an idea? Thank you
It’s really not safe to go collect your own hay. You don’t know what kind of poisonous stuff is in there. And the companies that grow it use a big field just for that kind of hay and they make sure that no poisonous stuff is in there. Because there are a lot of foraging stuff that is poisonous for piggies.
The paper bedding is way too expensive and very hard on your back to have to be changing it. Also some garbage pick ups will not pick up that it’s too much garbage.
It is fine as long as you get organic hay grown for horses/ponies. These farms are exactly where the hay companies (unless a specific type of hay) get their hay, so it is like going direct to the supplier 😊 I asked about thistles etc and the farmer said they make sure to remove them by hand (so no chemicals).
😢 Veggies in America are ridiculously expensive at the moment. I easily spend around $25 a week for my four piggies. As for hay! What type of hay did you buy from the farmers? A friend of my mom is a farmer but out of the types of hay he offered none were Timothy, orchid, or meadow. 🥲 I get worried trying anything outside of those 3 types of hay. The U.S is not a very piggies friendly place
The piggies jumping in the hay was super cute! They're hilarious
Again, you are a fantastic, young lady!
How can I make sure the hay, from a farm, is free from parasites or anything else that may harm my piggie?
That all in jump into the hay was so adorable ❤❤❤

This is the best time of my week! When I see a new video from squeak dreams 🧡☺️
Yay, thank you! 😄
That was so weird looking at your cage with paper base bedding in it lol, i'm so used to seeing fleece

Great video! You should do one where you have your subscribers send in there cages and you review them! That would be cool 😊
Nice and good hacks! Thank You Sarah..😊
This is really helpful because my daughter really wants guinea pigs and I think we’re going to get them soon
They are amazing pets!!
Thanks, Sarah. 😊

This is a very good video that I must share with my followers
UNFORTUNATELY WHERE WE LIVE I DO NOT FIND FREE HAY OUTSIDE, SO I NEED TO BUY IT. MARIA
I have been buying bales of hay and sharing them with my sister and her goats because they are so big!

Thank you for advice. I must have ago at fleece making.

Thanks again Sarah for another helpful, fabulous video! As a one off could you make a bonfire night video for piggie advice?
I think id honestly pay more for hay to be delivered! The hay in the back of your car was giving me major anxiety! 😅
Can you make a video on medicine that you can give your guinea pigs? That would very appreciated! ;) ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
i prefer fleece TBH. cuter, and reuseable ( the only downside is the laundry part) I've tried disposable bedding but my girls would eat it and it got messy!
Does anyone else’s Guinea pigs want to play with you when you’re ignoring them but when you play with them, they get scared

I’ve been feeding my Guinea pigs like two big like really big handfuls a day and I only have two 😳
Can I ask what bale of hay did you buy as I buy from haybox also
From Haybox I get the Timothy blend. The farm hay was from a local farm 😊
Thank you❤
