- Gonzaga Bulldogs forward Anton Watson was selected 54th overall by the Boston Celtics in the 2024 NBA draft, making it four years in a row the Zags have had at least one player drafted - and the second year in a row the defending NBA champions took a player from GU. I think Boston drafted older and ready players in this draft because they fit into brown and Tatum window and have them on a rookie contract with them being already ready to play
Right they're just not in a big developmental place. Not to say you don't always want to have some development in the pipeline but they're obviously triaging winning now and if they think these guys have a better chance of not being completely stuck in Portland Maine for the next couple years... They've done a pretty good job on some of these long shot stuff. Pritchard and Hauser and kornet we're never really expected to become rotational pieces and yet here they are

In the Celtics spread offense, you need to either shoot the 3pts or when the defense is spread then drive to the rim. Both Celtics draft choices can fit very well into that role.
He’s a great kid that plays for his team. Boston wants versatile players that can switch screens and hit threes sounds like it’s up his alley as he continues to improve his outside shot.

if 1 of tillman or luke dont return, he has a chance to crack the rotation. especially early in the season with KP out until december.
his main role would be injury insurance big for nov/dec especially when Al sits on the 2nd night of a b2b. this is primarily backstopping their big position in case 1 of luke/tillman is lured away. Kp/AL will miss games. without counting luke/tillman, the only other bigs on the roster are anton and queta. he'll get a 2-way deal and may play in garbage time.
I couldn't believe how they didn't even pretend to cover it for a second. I'd suspect that with the Celtics so far into the tax Brad and Joe would look for Anton to grow into a similar role as Oshae Brissett had last season. Oshae didn't shoot as well as they would have liked but he defended well and his best assets were his rebounding and energy.
Yup, this will go down as The Bronny Draft… I skipped it all together… can’t encourage ESPN.

Hope that Anton makes the Celtics team. I saw a few (3-4) games of the Gonzaga (they always have a good team with great fundamentals) ever since the Celtics picked Kelly Olynyk, and Anton Watson is the Real Deal and is definitely NBA ready.
He just needs to work on his outside/3 point shooting, other than that he will be fine.

If the NBA wants to really go 2 days then it has to discuss trades and allow the team who gets the draft pick actually make the pick. If they do not do this, the 2 day draft will be a failure.
#AntonWatson I like he just need to hit the gym learn Joe's system while getting in the weight room he has great size and potential to grow like JT! He just needs to be better than Semi Ojeleye and he's a great addition for now as well future!
