Yep I pocket carry in a pocket holster for the last 15 years.. my Taurus TCP 380.. which is drop Dead reliable and accurate out to 45 ft.. or my Smith's 342 air light TI..(titanium cylinder 11 oz) centennial with crimson Trace laser grips.. never consider me undergunned .. I can actually draw from my pocket faster than from a belt holster... And if I suspect something I can have my hand in my pocket with the grip of the gun in my hand finger off trigger ready to rock and roll

I had the good fortune to stumble across Paul Harrell videos about a year ago. After watching his video presentations during this past year, it has now become difficult for me to sit through other RUclips firearm videos. Paul’s videos are informative, intelligent, and unbiased. Paul’s flow of logic and thought processes make perfect sense. These are clearly the gold standard of RUclips firearm videos.

    Nice work Paul!
Personally I am not a fan of .380 especially because there are so many great sub-compact 9mm on the market...
But I realize three VERY important points, that make the .380 an appropriate choice.
    1. Having a gun is 100,000,000% better than not having one.
2.Extreme concealability can be very important, especially depending on the person and situation. I know a lot of women who carry a .380 because they can conceal it both in their "clutch purse" and on their person even with formfitting clothing. Whereas many other sub-compact won't.
    3. Some-people can just handle a .380 better, I think of my grandfather in this case he carried a 1911 for decades but once old-age and arthritis set in he switched to a .380, and loved it, because of its ease of use and comfort.

I still carry the 32 in the summer sometimes and one of the 9mms in the winter or when in the woods, but the Bersa has become regular my EDC. Great video which hits on many of the reasons I'm carrying a 42 now. I switched to it from a 43 which I carried for a year and a half (prior to that a shield for 5yrs). I never thought I'd carry a 380 and said the 42 was stupid when they released it. But, after borrowing one to shoot and carry I was quickly sold on it. It is substantially lighter (loaded weight) and materially smaller than the 43. It is a dream to shoot and follow up shots are far faster and more accurate than the 43 (or Shield). If I'm going to carry any of these pistols with less than 10 rounds, I'd like to get them on target, and quickly. The 42 gives me the best chance of doing that. It's also pretty easy to pocket carry with normal clothes, which means it will be carried much more in the hot and sticky summer weather. I think the 42 hits a real sweet spot for shootability and ease of carry

Flexibility like that makes people far more likely to listen to and follow his advice than other experts' one-size-fits-all condescension toward smaller, lighter guns.

I have a .380 in the Bersa Thunder Concealed Carry model which basically a PPK knock off. Performs flawlessly with zero malfunctions. 8 +1 capacity. Double to single action. Recessed sights and rounded corners with mostly recessed hammer for no snag pocket carry. Easy to take down and clean. $300 or about half what a PPK sells for. Will shoot Monarch HP thru two half inch pine boards. Can't say enough good things about this pistol. Some folks choose ball ammo in .380 for increased penetration and in some cases, pistol types, less chance of malfunction than hp rounds in some guns. I like a pistol that doesn't require a change in hand grip to disengage the safety. With practice, can be accomplished with the Bersa. Thanks for all your reviews. Amazing how 100 fps increase can totally change how a hollow point can perform and dump its energy into a target. Keep the informative and entertaining videos coming.

I love the honesty. Not a fan of Glocks. Don’t like how the grip fits my hand. Don’t like the sights. But just shoots the best grouping with it and even when trying to compensate for the sights, shoots even better even keyholes 2 shots. That’s why I carry my uncomfortable, ugly, blocky, Glock. It goes bang when I pull the trigger and I hit the target. Not a fanboy. I have SW, Rugers, Walthers, others, and Glocks but I carry the Glock. I enjoy them all.

I have a variety of firearms and yes the Glocks fit my hand like a brick, but I like the way they shoot, and feel confident they are gonna work no matter what. Glock 22 is a.little bulky for daily carry unless Florida starts to allow open carry with a CCW permit. I had a Glock 43 on layaway, nut had to give up. Replacement will either be a Glock 43X (fits my hand better, more capacity) or mb Sig P365 if they figure out striker drag and broken striker issue.

    Rules of Concealed Carry:
    Carry a gun
    Keep it loaded
reload it after use (cuz you don't have enough to deal with a new threat)
put it away when the situation is resolved
call police, but do not give details! "There has been a shooting at ______, the assailant is incapacitated, please send an ambulance." Do not try to rationalize or plead your case. that will be your lawyers job. do not back them into a particular argument (he started it, I had to, I feared for my life, etc).
Provide medical coverage IF YOU ARE QUALIFIED. (not necessary, but it sure helps in court and might just save a life rather than take one.)

I love that the PPK/S is in this comparison. A lot of people dismiss it because of it’s age and because it’s the “Bond” gun, but honestly even to this day, it’s a great carry gun. I recently bought one of the new ones made by Walther (Fort Smith, Arkansas) and carry it every day. It’s easy to naturally point and aim, and the DA to SA means that you can carry it with the safety off and get that first shot off very quickly (which helps me a lot because I’m a lefty). SA on the follow up shots is short and light, and the fact that it is heavier than a lot of newer guns helps with recoil. Fired 500 rounds through it so far with out a single malfunction. Could not be happier with it.

I continue to appreciate your tremendous and well honed skills and, most especially, your scientific approach and analysis. As a scientist myself, avid outdoorsman and marksman, your excellent productions resonate with me. Like Dodd, below, I also carry a 380 ACP in a Taurus PT738 most often now that I have retired from police work in Houston and no longer need to carry a major caliber handgun both on and off duty. My Taurus is super reliable, super concealable, adequate for close encounters of the deadly kind and a bargain.
Finally, I have met a number of younger men, 30-50 y.o.a., who all argue that regarding handguns "bigger is better" and that may be true in combat but the fact remains that a big handgun will do you no good if you left it in your truck or in your nightstand because it is too big to easily conceal on a hot day, as you pointed out as well. Hence the need for truly concealable yet adequately effective handguns, like these you've discussed and my own Taurus, which sacrifice some in firepower but not compared to any handgun still locked in the truck.

I have the PPK/s, love the extra weight; very low recoil/quick second shot. Like the decock mechanism. Pinky grip helps with control. Being a lefty, safety being very right handed, long first pull is important, if not required. Had the LCP, couldn’t shoot it worth a damn, shoot the PPK/s well. Enough difference that the extra cost was unquestionably worth it. Your results may differ.

    Hi Paul,
found your channel just a few hours ago. While the content isn't relevant for me (living in Sweden = No guns, and absolutely nothing concealed), I just wanted to give you a big thumbs up. You are very good at explaining things and your knowledge and experience is apparent. And the "boring" segments are maybe the most interesting parts imho. Your also doing a great job of separating opinions and facts.
    Live long and prosper.

Great presentation Paul. So many people look down on .380 which is a shame! Could you do a live/chat video sometime? That would definitely be *awesome* and we could keep the Wilbur Force at bay while you educate us. Doesn’t even matter what the topic is! All those times you said you “could go on for hours” about a subject......this would be that time 😁

I used to carry a 380 but now there are so many similarly sized options in 9mm that I can no longer personally justify carrying a firearm in a smaller caliber.

I seem to notice a reduction in the amount of background noise on this video -- I think Paul might be able to "work up some Statistics," that relate the number of times a word
or two get 'bleeped out with a Bang,' compared to the depth of that white stuff covering the ground. (Wish he'd had a long-duration drone shot, from two-hundred feet or so directly overhead, that showed how much effort he has to put into these.)

I don't like the idea of a world where I can't get off the bus wherever I want. and I don't think it's a good policy over the course of a society to let neighborhoods be defined as bad neighborhoods where good people don't go. you make it a good neighborhood by filling it with enough good people that the bad people feel uncomfortable. The reverse is true. If you remove yourself from the marginal neighborhood you've made it a bad neighborhood now now the good bad people feel in charge and the good people are afraid.

@@GunFunZS yes what you say is true in an ideal world. We don’t live in one. People DO move out when bad elements move in or it becomes a ghetto simply because they don’t want to live in a hostile environment. Reality always trumps idealism. Go ahead and move into a ghetto and see how “good” you make it.

@@Nick-wn1xw i have done, and it did help. IMO 3 to 4 families with that intent rapidly change the tone of a neighborhood. Right now I'm not in any position to buy, but when we are this is absolutely a consideration.

    • @GunFunZS
      @GunFunZS 4 года назад +3

@TheLZisTooHot The world is not a static thing it changes all the time your own answer includes as part of its premise that those neighborhoods changed. If you don't take active responsibility for changing them back then you probably won't get the changes you would like. you will decide that the neighborhood you're in has gotten run down and you will bravely flee to another neighborhood. Then you'll do that again then your kids will do that. And the cycle will continue. I can't persuade you not to keep up the strategy but I can say that is the inevitable result of it.

@TheLZisTooHot You've made an argument of impossibility. Or more precisely that it never happens. Several of my close friends have done exactly that. and it's made him a fair amount of money how many people do you know in their early 30s who own a couple of houses now?
