Grammy winning guitarist Greg Martin is most well-known for being the lead guitarist of the Kentucky Headhunters... a position he’s held since 1968 when the band originally formed as Itchy Brother. Greg also has a side project called Martin, Smith, McGee and the band just released a new record called Eclectic Lazyland. As always, Greg’s warm melodies of his 1958 Les Paul Standard, and his soulful solos tie everything together. On this record, Greg channeled his inner Paul Kossoff and tears up some serious blues rock.

I met Greg and Ricky Phelps before a concert in Charleston WV back in the early 90s. Got both of their autographs. My buddy and i got there early and ole Ricky was standing by himself in the parking lot in a pair of bib overhauls and nobody even knew who he was at the time. Of course we did and we went right up to him and talked to him for about 15 or 20 mins. Had him all to ourselves. Lol. He signed my parking ticket. Travis Tritt opened up for them that night. Unforgettable night. Good times. 👍👍

Great interview - I'm from Ohio County Kentucky - home of Bill Monroe and just over from Mulinberg, home of Merle Travis - I'm a guitar player and Greg Martin is a great American - I hope to meet him one day

I have always been a fan of Greg Martin, from his tone and phrasing and slide playing. I still pull out my edition of Vintage Guitar with Greg featured and reread his interview...thank you so much Greg!!!

Ronnie Mcdowel is such a great guy and he is a super fantastic entertainer. I mixed monitors for him and his band so many times at the Wheeling Jamboree. We never had the Headhunters there but we did at Jamboree in the hills a few times. I think just in 2018.

Thanks so much for another great interview. I wanted to say real quick that I had Greg wrong. I saw him on stage with Ed King doing a song and I think Ed may have been a little down. Anyway Ed seemed to struggle and Greg was just smoking, and I just thought he enjoyed making Ed look bad. I think after hearing the interview I was wrong. Even musicians are human and we are all just people, and Greg seems like a super person, I would love to see them live around the North Alabama, Georgia area when they hit the road again. Thanks so much guys!

Thank you for listening Steve Lankford! I can tell you with 100% confidence... Greg Martin is one of THE kindest and most genuine human beings I've ever met. He is such a pure person and has inspired me to aspire to be more like that. Glad you heard him in a different light than you'd previously thought - and happy you enjoyed this. Take care man! 🎉 🔥 😇 subscribe: elg.fun/subscribe
