I had never bought a pair of moc toes before, but I always loved the look of Thorogood's boots ever since I first tried them on at a Duluth, I believe. Just a few weeks ago, I decided I need to pick up a pair of moc toes, so I scoured ebay looking for Thorogoods and found some lightly used Field N Forest boots (with the leaf logo). From the little research I did, they're Fleet Farm's brand and the ones I got were made by Thorogood. So far, I've really enjoyed them, but it doesn't look like Fleet Farm sells them anymore. with your expertise, I'd like to see you get your hands on a pair, if possible, and offer your opinion if I made a good pick or not. All in, it cost me about $95, and all I did was a quick clean, conditioning and swapped the insoles.

I have to comment: This video could really have used a comparison of the lasts and sizing! Even just a rough idea of "this one is narrow, this one is wide, this one has a taller toebox, this one is for thin/thick ankles" etc. I think that's after all probably much more important than most other specs. And even though you can't fit a shoe through a RUclips video, it might help people orient themselves a bit.
Other than that, I loved it and thanks for all the hard work!

Those things lasted close to about 3 years of 40-50 hour work weeks before I finally retired them. If the build quality is 'decent' like it was, those things should be great for someone new to wearing boots everyday on the clock, and won't break the bank.

Would love an actual update on the now 2y old tier list video.
Love your insights, this is so useful for navigating the space to pick your own price\value point when spending between 200 and 500 stones on a pair, you just don't want to regret an expense like this, when you're not collecting them, but try to establish a minimalists wardrobe.

Question for Rose Anvil; are there any US made, work boots with toe cap (preferably composite but would take steel/alloy), that have zipper sides? I work offshore and part of the requirement for us is that we must have zipper sides for quick removal of the boot if we happen to man overboard.

The rock roosters are not a long lasting boot. I bought a pair just over a year ago, and within the last 4 months the stitching has failed, and the leather has started to get holes in it. The counter cover came apart pretty early on, but was hardly an issue. The incredibly soft metal on the eyelets likes to bend and change shape, requiring manually bending them back to be able to tie your shoes again, not to mention eating through your laces. They go through a set of ironlaces every 6 months or so.
Back when this was $99, this was more than acceptable, but now at $120, I'm probably going to spend a little more and get the Georgias.

I believe he did thorogood a previous year. He did a blurb about other brands to look into, but I'm sure he just wanted to do a round up of this year's boots in this segment.

I think all work boots should be required to use Vibram soles

I have a pair of Thorogoods that are still going a year later, but I’m looking to step my work boot. I like the moc toe and prefer to find another one. I like the composite shank for ease in the airport. What are some recommendations for a moc toe work boot with a composite shank, real Goodyear welt, made in America, leather heal counter, and 8 inch?

I've worn Thorogoods for over 20 years. For the price they couldn't be beat. Now the price is much higher I switched to the Whites Perry Moc toe. Better build components and quality for not much more $ anymore. I'm an IBEW Wiremen and alot of our guys are doing the same.

@@danichicago9140 that’s awesome to hear. I must have missed those looking at Whites. I looked at a lot of the PNW boots and didn’t see anything I was wanting. That Perry is at an awesome price point considering how much the Thorogoods increased in price over the last year and the quality you’re getting with Whites. How was the break in and can your feet tell the difference between the two boots? Thank you for the recommendation.

@ravnodinson there is a short break in compared to the Thorogoods out of the box. They are a little heavier because of the leather thickness and the Christy sole. They also stand up to puncture and repeated abrasion a little better. Also with the leather welt should get more resoles

@@danichicago9140 I don’t mind the extra weight. I did look them up and the size I want are back ordered which is a complete buzz kill.

Do you ever do any reviews of boots like the GoRuck MacV-2 ? I just bought a pair and they seem really good. There's only a few youtube videos about them. I first heard about them from Dave Canterbury.

Its a real shame you keep ignoring BONANZA boots. It is actually sold in the US and surprising a lot of american people. There's Sureway and Everboots wich will surprise you in their cost-benefit rate.
