it's funny how the system was never actually removed in ow2, they just hid the actual meter but still kept all the calculations and voice lines and then eventually gave in and added assets and made it visible again
They didn’t have the intention of not including it, they just said they didn’t have time to incorporate all the features from ow1 since they had to remake everything for UI again with the new engine and prioritized the important things for release and other features would come as they were made. Not that it justifies coming out with ow2 while it still has missing intended features, but as to why it wasn’t there when ow2 came out, they hadn’t coded the display of it

Maybe Fire does factor in the POTG algorithm and that's why Brigitte and Moira earn less fire per healing. Remember a few years ago when they said they tweaked the POTG algorithm to favor a bit less Moira and Brigitte into it, maybe that's when it changed.
PotG algorithm does seem to favor environmental kills, and per Marblr’s investigation, some of those are “double dipping” on fire. It also seems to favor placing sprays, though, so if fire is a factor, I don’t think it’s the only one. Also, it’s pretty easy to get on fire as Ana but ridiculously hard to get PotG as her.
@@ClaraBennett Can't forget sharpshooter kills. I think I got a 3k Dva bomb one game but our Mercy stole the POTG by sniping an enemy in the background LOL

@@Udunen According to this video, it is possible for lucio to overwrite a 4k with a 2 man boop. Depending on the situation. Were the 4 enemies on low health? Adding into the mix that the enemy used their ults when the lucio booped them it is possible to gain even more charge. An informative video about a very underutilized feature. I've been playing Overwatch for 6 years and never once paid attention to another player's fire status. I didn't even know the little text popping up in the middle of the screen was about fire, I thought it was for the scoreboard/stats each player can see for themselves.
IMO it was a great mechanic. From my POV it was really informative and unlike medal system really was showing who's performing good in general, despite from their roles. Although for some heroes it's kinda tough to get on fire. Like Mercy and Rein for example. But for a, shall I say, balanced hero like Ana and Baptiste for example on-fire was really a reliable method to tell if you're performing well.
Really? I feel like Rein is pretty easy to get on fire with. It’s easy for him to do contribute a lot of damage to several kills in a short period, plus he gets fire just from stunning people with his ult. Mercy is difficult to get on fire with, though.
