What bugs me the most about it is that the combat in the rest of the zone is arguably the easiest in the game, then the boss is the hardest in the game. I mean at least make it consistent one way or another. oy vey

39:11 I FOUND OUT. in the next room north of this one, there's a small pillar you can shoot with the railgun. Walk over to the other side and in the middle of the wall is a room you can enter and explore. As you go down you get a key and open the door from the inside. YOURE WELCOME!!!
@@Hirobot I can confirm, the entrance to the locked room is in the wall the pillar is against. when you're done with the room to the north, just walk against the west wall and you'll find it. it contains a health kit and a key. Although I was not able to open the door even then, but i doesn't really matter cuz I got all the stuff anyways. hope this helps ;)
Haha he goes into that secret area, oddly enough right after that, and does go down to get the key. But there isn't a switch for the door, i don't remember finding it 5 years ago either
1:07:00 For anyone having trouble with this boss,hes how to make him easier. After his 2 slash combo,dash up to him and shotgun him once then back off. When he shoots his gun at you,use the dash-absorb upgrade to refill your shots. Kite and slash his minions to refill your shots as well,but if they are becoming too much of a hassle,shotgun their asses too,they only take 1 shot. Good luck boys!

I actually went West first and died like 20 times in the boss until I got the timing, there I was with no upgrades, no weapons, just me and my sword, and the gun that i didnt find usefull at first (since I would stand and aim with LT instead of just shoot with RT pointing towards the stuff) These are pretty good guides (already watched east and north, and u just uploaded this one as I was watching those lol), ive cleared myself the 3 bosses already and picked most of the stuff, then I found this guide and helped me a lot to find some of the most hidden stuff, the game somtimes is unfair with the way it hides things, it feels like you should go wall huggin the whole time to find everything lol. Great job and I cant wait for the South one! but first let me go by myself and try to clear it as best as I can :P.
@@TterraJ42 I also started with West and yeah, East and North seemed A LOT easier!^^ Gave up on the boss in the West first, and when I came back after completing East and North it still took me some trys...definitely the hardest area/boss of the three.

I just started this game yesterday and thought I was suppose to go this way first and then I got to the boss and felt stupid and wandered why its so hard but this shed light on this area and showed me I missed 99% of the area.I originally found this video for help finding power nodes but you helped me see and find alot more than that thank you
To get through the door in 37:10 you must go to the room up, shoot this switch with a gun and then on the floor is the square showing, that there's a secret passage in the wall. If you get through there you are behind that door and you can find a key
Just FYI: Your sequence breaker at ~36:15 "Devs, please don't patch this" ... looks like it has been patched ;D That crystal shard in the corner that you flicker through is no longer there!
Thank you SO MUCH! 5 years later, I am doing a playthrough on my channel, and I just could not for the life of me find the eighth power module! Also I took about 30-40 minutes off screen to get through that damn crystal deathtrap, and I STILL can´t dash consistently...
"West is usually the most challenging, if not confusing section of the game." Me...slapping my forehead. I WISH I had KNOWN THAT going in XD Then again; that means I tackled the most challenging and confusing area of the game first. Actually not that bad considering it took me under 10 tries to learn the Corrupt King's patterns, lol.

Holy shit. I got the game for Switch finally yesterday in the bf sale, got 4 energy modules in this area and thought cool, but there were two areas I saw and couldn’t get to. The first was the door that you also didn’t know how to open and the second I missed watching. xD But I realized that I basically missed everything else which is a lot. Holy shit. Now wondering what I missed in my first (north) area.. Thanks, subbed! :D

I watched some bits of the north tutorial and leaned a lot I think just knowing that invisible path exist and how to tell when walls are passable helps immensely it's good that you explain how to tell how you found them
Thank you for this guide! At Crystal Spike Death Trap you can avoid the crystals by hitting the wall next to it, the knock animation nullifies its effect, then you can catch your breath and do it again.
missed some secrets in some vids but easy figure them out later thanks to your vids and the calmness in your voice makes me play better and don't die so fast! :D Keep it up :)
VERY late to the party here, just found your videos and they're super helpful! love this game through and through. One or 2 things to note about the boss of this area: the gun you get now does 3 damage per shot, which, for me at least, makes it SUPER useful for combos, especially on 6 health enemies. And 2, you can bait him into slashing at the trapped in crystal samurai, so if you make him destroy all of them, he won't be able to summon any. I actually started WITH the west area and yeah the boss was definitely challenging but the reward is GREAT! kinda disappointing because I found literally every other boss to be super easy..

Hey I found a sort of easy way to get the Green Blue Equipment Set at 1:26:56. The bottom edges of the hallways (the southern edges that aren't visible) have a narrow path you can walk on without taking damage from the crystal spikes. Instead of luring the huge pack of dirks into the spike pit I walked back and forth a few times, tossed grenades, and shot at them until I could dive in and slice them up easily. You still have to chain dash a bunch to get that far, but it saves you a little bit of effort I think. (editor's note: i suck at chain dashing)
When I first started, I went west. I was going to stop playing because I hit a dead end, and my brain went numb. This helped me get familiar with the game. Thanks
these videos are great, I played through all the areas on my own first to experience the game but then realized how much I had missed and followed all your vids :-) luckily I did the west boss third anyway but it was still super tough for me :-( edit: speaking of combos I really enjoy the shotgun and combining it with shot slash dash is super satisfying :D
This is fantastic! Though I have found all the secrets already, somehow I've forgotten about the exact location of a door that needs many keys to open in the West. Last time I found it, I did not have enough keys, and I don't want to bother looking for it again, lol. I particularly like the way you use pistol shots combined with slashes, for this fighting technique is entirely new to me and it works like a charm! Thank you for the awesome video.
Likely the 12 Key Door at 23:46 with the Yellow Equipment Set & Gearbit 44. But yeah, chaining sword slashes into pistol shots is quite satisfying :) making using of the various sword and dash upgrades can really change your fighting style too. It's simple, yet deep.
The facility doesn't have a pit in front of those cells in case the prisoners escape; rather, the pit prevents them from escaping in the first place should the barriers malfunction or their power fail.
I actually did the west side first XD Didn't realize the boss was so much harder. I had to give up and go back to town and get multi dash, then I beat him.
If you play the video at 2x speed you kind of sound like Michael Cera. So it just feels like he's narrating this game for me and its a strange experience. Now, moving past that, thanks for these videos! They're really helping with the sneakier hidden paths.

At the Crystal Spike Death Trap, if you roll a Roly Poly into the spikes, they will trigger. Then you can walk over them for a few seconds without dashing. Makes getting the Blue Green outfit way easier.

By the way: i dunno if anybodys told you yet, but the Key Room that you said youve never gotten is a grey/white cloak with an orange sword and white drone IT BE THE COOLEST EVER
Abou the locked door underground, at 38:00 Shoot the things in purple with Laser Rifle (not the first, the laser is unlocked by beating the North boss) THEN it will open a bridge way, wich (in the other side) contain a secret way (On the left wall, you can see some brocken brick on the floor that indicate where is the entrance)
Blue/Green set apparently makes you heal faster after using a medkit. Animation takes the same amount of time, but the bars fill up faster than usual. I read that somewhere on the interwebs.
Something I ran into in the crystal dash cave of suck was... the walls, and the stun kept me from getting hit by the crystals. So if you suck at chain dashing, run into the wall occasionally and you get afew seconds to restart without taking damage. I had 2 grenades and the shotgun, when I got to the enemies I threw a grenade up, dashed to it, threw one down, and then shotgunned the 2 I missed, 1 spider and one dirk
I managed to cheese the minigame that you talk about in the end. I used the charged slash to through the ball instantly into the goal. Makes it quite easy...
did you know, finding secrets are easier now since there is a marker .. a boxy spiral, i know you're finished with this game and uploading vids but ... if you see this, thanks man .. watching all these guides have been a journey
Here's a tip for the Western boss. You'll need the projectile deflection upgrade and multidash is optional. This boss has about 3 different attacks: the sword smash, the crystals, and the gun. For the sword attack, just focus on dodging. However, if you can get the boss to smash the frozen enemies in each corner, then they will not be able to spawn later in the fight. For the crystals, get some distance between you and the boss. He won't move during this attack or the next. Try to position yourself directly above, below, left, or right of the boss. The reason I say this is because that position makes it easier to deflect the next attack and hit the boss with deflected bullets. Repeat when the cycle starts again. This is a pretty time-consuming method, but you can actually do this fight without taking any damage this way.
The "Zaliska" gun you get from the western area boss has been buffed to do 3 damage, with 4 ammo, that's 12 damage which is double the amount of a regular pistol :p and a larger hit radius
The damage buff is pretty cool. It was a bit of a special moment when that was decided. The devs were actually talking in the speedrunner's discord about various changes, and when we said we'd pretty much never use that gun, he asked "What if we buff the damage to 3?" Guess that wasn't a tease. Though I'm not convinced the radius is much bigger, mostly just the sprite.
At 19:16 you can see what looks like the top of an aqua colored gate or something at the bottom of the screen. I've not seen anything that looks like this anywhere else in the game, does anyone know if it can be opened?
"Let have the floor be a toggle switch" Well it makes sense when you think about the fact that it's in front of prison cells. It's an extra security measure.
Took me like four or five tries. Mind you, this was AFTER I had already spent fucking hours trying to get the 800 dashes in the dash arena. Which I eventually cheated with autohotkey after I got to 588 legitimately and my drifter inexplicably just stopped dashing with full stamina and no input error. FUUUUUUUUU
hey, around 44:50 when you activate the switch, on my game the camera moves down and shows a room with a gearbit and some enemies. do you know how to get there? edit: just got it. after the bridge you make to get there, there is a secret interaction you can press and it generates an invisible bridge for you to get on. hope that helps someone

1:17:07 how do you get to the area straight down from here? I’ve searched all over including other videos and I can’t find how to get to the area in Western area inside the 3 key door. I feel like it’s just another gearbit, but it bothers me that I can’t figure it out.
39:07 there is a block you shoot north east of the door that makes a bridge appear its right behind one of the guards shooting at you you can walk through the wall next to the switch and it leads to the backside of the locked door.
If you feel so inclined, this could use an update. All of the secret areas now have a square-like icon to indicate hidden passageways and invisible paths. Purists would say it's a cheap way to give away all the secrets, but there are TONS of square-like icons in the game, and I like that there's a definitive way to determine where the secrets are

I did not get the railgun in the north! I followed your north video and got the shotgun where you got the railgun. The wiki says it's in the south, beyond an 8 module door. Maybe it got patched that way? Anyways, love your videos! Huge help on my second playthrough. Newgame alt is awesome.
That's very interesting. The shotgun is usually from the East. What I called a "railgun" may be the "rifle". There is a gun in the South you get much later that's probably the real "railgun". So try East next, see if you get the rifle.

39:11 I FOUND OUT. in the next room north of this one, there's a small pillar you can shoot with the railgun. Walk over to the other side and in the middle of the wall is a room you can enter and explore. As you go down you get a key and open the door from the inside. YOURE WELCOME!!!

@@Hirobot I can confirm, the entrance to the locked room is in the wall the pillar is against. when you're done with the room to the north, just walk against the west wall and you'll find it. it contains a health kit and a key. Although I was not able to open the door even then, but i doesn't really matter cuz I got all the stuff anyways. hope this helps ;)

When he shoots his gun at you,use the dash-absorb upgrade to refill your shots. Kite and slash his minions to refill your shots as well,but if they are becoming too much of a hassle,shotgun their asses too,they only take 1 shot. Good luck boys!

I actually went West first and died like 20 times in the boss until I got the timing, there I was with no upgrades, no weapons, just me and my sword, and the gun that i didnt find usefull at first (since I would stand and aim with LT instead of just shoot with RT pointing towards the stuff) These are pretty good guides (already watched east and north, and u just uploaded this one as I was watching those lol), ive cleared myself the 3 bosses already and picked most of the stuff, then I found this guide and helped me a lot to find some of the most hidden stuff, the game somtimes is unfair with the way it hides things, it feels like you should go wall huggin the whole time to find everything lol. Great job and I cant wait for the South one! but first let me go by myself and try to clear it as best as I can :P.

I just started this game yesterday and thought I was suppose to go this way first and then I got to the boss and felt stupid and wandered why its so hard but this shed light on this area and showed me I missed 99% of the area.I originally found this video for help finding power nodes but you helped me see and find alot more than that thank you
To get through the door in 37:10 you must go to the room up, shoot this switch with a gun and then on the floor is the square showing, that there's a secret passage in the wall. If you get through there you are behind that door and you can find a key

Holy shit. I got the game for Switch finally yesterday in the bf sale, got 4 energy modules in this area and thought cool, but there were two areas I saw and couldn’t get to.
The first was the door that you also didn’t know how to open and the second I missed watching. xD
But I realized that I basically missed everything else which is a lot.

I watched some bits of the north tutorial and leaned a lot I think just knowing that invisible path exist and how to tell when walls are passable helps immensely it's good that you explain how to tell how you found them
Thank you for this guide! At Crystal Spike Death Trap you can avoid the crystals by hitting the wall next to it, the knock animation nullifies its effect, then you can catch your breath and do it again.

VERY late to the party here, just found your videos and they're super helpful! love this game through and through. One or 2 things to note about the boss of this area: the gun you get now does 3 damage per shot, which, for me at least, makes it SUPER useful for combos, especially on 6 health enemies. And 2, you can bait him into slashing at the trapped in crystal samurai, so if you make him destroy all of them, he won't be able to summon any. I actually started WITH the west area and yeah the boss was definitely challenging but the reward is GREAT! kinda disappointing because I found literally every other boss to be super easy..
Not late, but just in time to enjoy a good game with all the patches from the start :)

Hey I found a sort of easy way to get the Green Blue Equipment Set at 1:26:56. The bottom edges of the hallways (the southern edges that aren't visible) have a narrow path you can walk on without taking damage from the crystal spikes. Instead of luring the huge pack of dirks into the spike pit I walked back and forth a few times, tossed grenades, and shot at them until I could dive in and slice them up easily. You still have to chain dash a bunch to get that far, but it saves you a little bit of effort I think. (editor's note: i suck at chain dashing)

This is fantastic! Though I have found all the secrets already, somehow I've forgotten about the exact location of a door that needs many keys to open in the West. Last time I found it, I did not have enough keys, and I don't want to bother looking for it again, lol. I particularly like the way you use pistol shots combined with slashes, for this fighting technique is entirely new to me and it works like a charm! Thank you for the awesome video.
Likely the 12 Key Door at 23:46 with the Yellow Equipment Set & Gearbit 44. But yeah, chaining sword slashes into pistol shots is quite satisfying :) making using of the various sword and dash upgrades can really change your fighting style too. It's simple, yet deep.
these guides are great personally I complete an area and then look at your guides to see if I missed anything

@27:34 seeing as this is a prison area, more than likely turning off the floor is in case of an escape. There's nowhere for the prisoners to go.
The facility doesn't have a pit in front of those cells in case the prisoners escape; rather, the pit prevents them from escaping in the first place should the barriers malfunction or their power fail.

At the Crystal Spike Death Trap, if you roll a Roly Poly into the spikes, they will trigger. Then you can walk over them for a few seconds without dashing. Makes getting the Blue Green outfit way easier.

Abou the locked door underground, at 38:00
Shoot the things in purple with Laser Rifle (not the first, the laser is unlocked by beating the North boss)
THEN it will open a bridge way, wich (in the other side) contain a secret way (On the left wall, you can see some brocken brick on the floor that indicate where is the entrance)
Blue/Green set apparently makes you heal faster after using a medkit. Animation takes the same amount of time, but the bars fill up faster than usual. I read that somewhere on the interwebs.
Interesting, certainly sounds plausible, I don't think any other set does that.

Something I ran into in the crystal dash cave of suck was... the walls, and the stun kept me from getting hit by the crystals. So if you suck at chain dashing, run into the wall occasionally and you get afew seconds to restart without taking damage.
I had 2 grenades and the shotgun, when I got to the enemies I threw a grenade up, dashed to it, threw one down, and then shotgunned the 2 I missed, 1 spider and one dirk

I managed to cheese the minigame that you talk about in the end. I used the charged slash to through the ball instantly into the goal. Makes it quite easy...

Here's a tip for the Western boss. You'll need the projectile deflection upgrade and multidash is optional. This boss has about 3 different attacks: the sword smash, the crystals, and the gun. For the sword attack, just focus on dodging. However, if you can get the boss to smash the frozen enemies in each corner, then they will not be able to spawn later in the fight. For the crystals, get some distance between you and the boss. He won't move during this attack or the next. Try to position yourself directly above, below, left, or right of the boss. The reason I say this is because that position makes it easier to deflect the next attack and hit the boss with deflected bullets. Repeat when the cycle starts again. This is a pretty time-consuming method, but you can actually do this fight without taking any damage this way.
The "Zaliska" gun you get from the western area boss has been buffed to do 3 damage, with 4 ammo, that's 12 damage which is double the amount of a regular pistol :p and a larger hit radius
The damage buff is pretty cool. It was a bit of a special moment when that was decided. The devs were actually talking in the speedrunner's discord about various changes, and when we said we'd pretty much never use that gun, he asked "What if we buff the damage to 3?" Guess that wasn't a tease. Though I'm not convinced the radius is much bigger, mostly just the sprite.

47:20 if you use your robot where the red patch is on the floor it shows you an invisible way to a "gearbit".
At 19:16 you can see what looks like the top of an aqua colored gate or something at the bottom of the screen. I've not seen anything that looks like this anywhere else in the game, does anyone know if it can be opened?

47:19 there is a invisible plataform on the left of the bridged, just in the scratched square that leads to a coin.
hey, around 44:50 when you activate the switch, on my game the camera moves down and shows a room with a gearbit and some enemies. do you know how to get there?
edit: just got it. after the bridge you make to get there, there is a secret interaction you can press and it generates an invisible bridge for you to get on. hope that helps someone

1:17:07 how do you get to the area straight down from here? I’ve searched all over including other videos and I can’t find how to get to the area in Western area inside the 3 key door. I feel like it’s just another gearbit, but it bothers me that I can’t figure it out.
39:07 there is a block you shoot north east of the door that makes a bridge appear its right behind one of the guards shooting at you you can walk through the wall next to the switch and it leads to the backside of the locked door.
If you feel so inclined, this could use an update. All of the secret areas now have a square-like icon to indicate hidden passageways and invisible paths. Purists would say it's a cheap way to give away all the secrets, but there are TONS of square-like icons in the game, and I like that there's a definitive way to determine where the secrets are

I did not get the railgun in the north! I followed your north video and got the shotgun where you got the railgun. The wiki says it's in the south, beyond an 8 module door. Maybe it got patched that way? Anyways, love your videos! Huge help on my second playthrough. Newgame alt is awesome.
That's very interesting. The shotgun is usually from the East. What I called a "railgun" may be the "rifle". There is a gun in the South you get much later that's probably the real "railgun". So try East next, see if you get the rifle.
