Brilliant! That's my old frameset that eventually went to Stephen Dixon. Used to run it with Spins on around 10 years ago, great to see it running them again.
That looks like a scaled down design if BMW'S Tele-lever front suspension. Designed to reduce fork dive under braking. Just imagine the types of bikes we'd be riding if some of these ideas actually worked/caught on.
I have the black version of the 1993 Mongoose Amplifier in my collection but with a Risse Genesis oil/air rear damper. This damper is much better as the orignal spring rear suspension damper the Amplifier came with because of the higher breakaway moment. The rear of the bike is much stiffer now and it no longer rocks as much when you pedal.
I can almost feel how twitchy the front would be with those short bars and long stem! Great to see it brought back to the trails. I let out an audible "ooh!" when the video opened with that shot of it leaning on the stump.
another top vid from a top cycling/bike channel. that mongoose is off the chain, great work giving it the attention and even more for using it for it's intended purpose
I really do respect your appreciation and dedication for the old bikes. It certainly is a work of art and well worthy of any bike collection. That squirrel though 😅 👍
I love this video. the 90's was a special time for mountain biking. are those allen /hex key skewers the control Tech titanium ones? lightest at the time if I recall. i still have mine in black ..
I’m not actually sure! They came on my KHS Montana Team but I thought they worked better on this. They’re not branded from what I remember but I’ll certainly check them out now!
Can't help but think that squiggle was thinking 'Nice bike mate, but you've parked it on my lunch, any chance you could shift it, ta?' I wonder if time has come back around for a bike like that - ultra short travel just for comfort, rather than bomb proof monster truck.
At the point where you get thrown off a modern bike, it is with no bike-handling skills, at a much more dangerous point at greater speed. Getting thrown over the bars was the problem, but as long as you can size up on the frame and down on the reach that is OK. It is more of a bmx for the trails, and there was a time when even those were out and about.
Tidy. I'd be hyped if I bumped into someone riding that out in the wild lol. Don't suppose you've got a GT Lobo with the pull shock in your collection?!
Nice bike, Mark.. lots of cool old tech going on there! I wonder about the rear cantis, did the fact that they are being pulled slightly from the side effect their perfomance?
Good spot! Yeah it's not the best angle at all. It was hard to try and get them balanced as it always wanted to pull to the one side. It worked... but it still dragged a little.
"It's a cool bike with some really interesting suspension" sums it up perfectly, thanks for sharing it with us all !
You’re welcome!
Cool ride video. Nice to see the bike in action. That squirrel is obviously thinking “This bike is nuts!!” 🌰 😂
Ba dum dum tishhh haha
love the little damper doing its thing got a similar fork an f3 xc so cool
It was holding on tight 😂
So good to see you back at your old time! I haven't caught much lately. I'm so busy in the evening. Great show today!
Thanks Stephen!
The modern machine cut well groomed flow trails are probably the best place for retro mtb riding.
For comfort sure! They still hold their own elsewhere though - you've just got to hold on tighter :)

If you squint a bit I guess! Similar shape.
Really like it. Especially the front sus. Neat bike.
Yeah it's an interesting concept. They even did a disc mount version a few years later
Great video! I have Amplifier 2 and I love its smoothness. Greetings from Poland.
Hey Poland. Glad to hear there is another Amplifier out there being ridden.
Being Sunday, i thought I'd confess. I'm fairly jealous, more of the local environment you have, but also that bike is/was very cool.
It is nice to have those trails "on my doorstep" so to speak.

nice bike that
It’s pretty eh?!
Nice ride out, cool bike. Not been up Cannock all year.
I’m trying to venture out a bit more now. Cannock is good but there are better trails to ride too!

Thanks. It is a beautiful bike. I’d have loved to have gone harder but the thought of cracking the frame worried me a bit!

That squirrel though 😅
👍
Looks like a fun and fairly smooth ride. Well equipped drivetrain in a good sweet spot age for vintage MTB and experimentation.
Yeah that blue trail is really mellow and smooth. It was built as part of the commonwealth games to get more people in to MTB.

Wow, what a monumental bike to have in your collection! Exquisite components too. Beauty! I’d love to se build video (or thread on Retrobike).
The build should be linked in the end screen at the end of the video 🙂

You mean like the Rockshox Rudy gravel fork? Yup - They do a 30/40mm travel fork for gravel bikes now!

I don’t! The only GT I have is a Zaskar.
@@MonkeyShred not a bad one to have if you're only gunna have one!
Take more bikes out nice to see a bike that’s not carbon 😎
I only have one carbon bike! Well… one and a half. The MI90 is only carbon wrapped 🙂
Nice bike🤩 I have a set of wheels like that, but they are i need of new bearings. Ever changed those before?
Nope! I’ve seen a thread on Retrobike about them though. Might be worth a search there.
I had one I’m from Barbados
Cool! Hope it's treating you well.
Maybe that squirrel knows how to fix that rd
The RD is fine. It’s the design of the frame. The chainstays sit a lot lower on the dropouts than normally. Just a bit of a design flaw.

@@MonkeyShred how interesting! I guess there was a lot of trial and error when it came to designing around new frame technologies in those days.
What tires are those?
Specs are in the description 👌
@@MonkeyShred Ritchey Speedmax. Great looking tires, but sadly it seems like the 26" version is not in production anymore.
"Promo SM" 😊
