I’m a 23 year old male I bought a ez380 off my dad and it’s my edc has been for a while. Any gun that goes bang will protect you but I can shoot my 380 better than my 9s. I don’t care what people say about the round in my gun because I’m confident in it nothing else matters
Oh hell yeah we doing some role play? I’m also an HVAC tech and usually wear my robe and wizard hat. But I do shoulder holster a +1 Wand of Binding in case I run into trouble.
I have rheumatoid arthritis for the past 30 + years. The smaller caliber and easy rack slide sound like just what I need. I am a 63 year old Marine and really appreciate your kind way of delivering your message. Thank you
You are exactly right, my wife couldn't rack a 9mm. But she can the .380. Plus it is lighter to carry with a full mag. thank you for the continuing with the great content!
Your wife could rack some pistols that use 9mm while having a very hard time "racking" a pistol firing a 380, it depends on blowback vs locked actions and the model of pistol.
Hickok thanks for the kindness. Personally I think the Sig P365 380 is a perfect match of caliber and pew pew size. Kudos to Sig for it. Springfield needs to catch up, how about a Hellcat or Heckcat like Hickok says in 380acp.
I turn 68 tomorrow, and while I have no issues with my EDC 9mm, I have seriously been considering a .380 to pocket carry in the 90°+ summer days here in Oklahoma.
Happy birthday. I recently turned 69, and now carry the M&P .380ez. A 9mm and larger have become too difficult for me to get very many rounds through. And the .380ez is actually easier to rack that first round. I can even fire it pretty well left handed.
I know somebody that has been using the Ruger LCP for years, and he likes it. Its a pretty solid and cheap EDC if youre wanting to get started on that caliber
I just wanted to say how much I enjoy your videos. I so appreciate your way of making learning fun, lighthearted and honest, with no particular agenda. Just a welcome break from the daily grind. Thank you!
380 is a solid choice, 9 is also. Modern ammo has come also leaps and bounds. I sometimes feel like when 9x19 vs 45acp debate fizzled out, it was replaced by 380acp vs 9x19. I would not volunteer my body to be hit by any round, including 22lr, 22 short, anything lol. Shot placement is always key.
I agree with you on this. I don't want to get shot by any caliber either. Call me crazy, but that's just me. LOL I feel like some people forget that 380 and 9mm are the same diameter. Which, to me, means they will make the same size hole. Just 380 won't penetrate as far, or maybe not do as much damage as 9mm. But for me, it's close enough. Also, keep in mind that 380 is not a "range" round and is really meant for up close and personal. At least, in my humble opinion. I proudly carry my Bersa Thunder 380 single stack. It's concealable, lightweight and I have the Firestorm finger grips on mine. Fun to shoot and highly accurate. I've considered getting the Bersa Plus for the extra capacity, but I kind of like the single stacks better. I carry 2 extra mags, for a total of 24 rounds(8 per mag, I don't do the +1). Should be plenty, and if I need more, then I am in need of some police backup! LOL
@williamstaggs9285 exactly! Underwood xtreme defender 90 grain and other 380 and 9mm share sometimes the same bullet. We all have seen 380 under penetrate, and some over penatrate, neither of those would I want aimed at my heart or head or any other piece of me. If someone loaded up a slingshot with a metal ball bearing and asked for my wallet, they can have it lol. That bersa is a solid choice and couldn't agree more. I also would say j frames I also like along with my regular pocket gun being the first bodyguard in 380, extra mag. 12 rounds of xtreme defender. Sometimes due to enviorment or conditions, I can't carry more. But I agree completely with your comment and couldn't of said it better.
I am a Combat Vet, I have a large variety of handgun calibers..including 9 MM and 45....I'm not gonna carry those everyday. I never leave home without my Ruger LCP Max or my Glock 42. Easy to conceal, light to carry and i am extremely comfortable with either of them. With the new ammo that's out there for .380..it's a quite capable round for self defense..
@lwstruyk Thank You sir, I appreciate it. Some of these comments are absolutely hilarious. All these I carry nothing but a 9MM or 1911 45, 380 rounds are pointless, ain't been to the range, gun shop warriors. I assure you not one of them is gonna stand there and let me shoot them, much less get up from it when I'm done.
Love the .380, it was my holdout piece for many years on the ankle, coat pocket, or aiwb. Sometimes, folks didn't need to know I was carrying or that I was at a heightened alert level. Great little pistols, and today's ammo makes them fine for even an ok placed shot on target. If I know there's a high likelihood of engagement, obviously, I'll have a rifle and higher capacity. 357sig, but unfortunately, the universe doesn't always give you a fair heads up to danger...
My wonderful father had a severe case of rheumatoid arthritis from age 23 until his death at 72. His everyday carry piece was a Harrington & Richardson revolver in .32 caliber.
Used to carry 380 in a ruger lcp. I never felt underarmed, and it was easy to carry in a pocket. Eventually sold it, later bought the EC9s. Similar round count, basically the same size. I like it a bit better, but you cant go wrong with a good 380. Amazing firepower means little when you leave it at home.
@@alarmfannh I also have a Security 380, and what a nice pistol it is- shoots great! I keep it in my car and also conceal carry it on occasion. Very light for size/capacity.
I now carry a .380 for more or less the reasons Hitchcock mentiond. My right arm got messed up by illness so I've lost strength. I can still shoot more powerfull guns but it takes too long to bring it back on target after recoil. Shakes can kick in as well with a larger gun. Now I carry a Browning 1911 .380 that fits my larger paws and shoots well. Plus it's cute, and I do like 1911s. Hate the magazine disconnect though.
my mom has one of those and she absolutely loves it! I got her into shooting and to carry a gun the day I turned 18 and started carrying. Stay strapped yall❤
God bless you Hickok...I had to re-look at my chart....the .380 acp and the 9mm... You really make me laugh, I love your sense of humour and your humility....you are always fair minded and well balanced. I love your content....always entertaining and always with a social conscience. You are a gentleman.
I live in Mesa, AZ; we're in tshirts, cargo shorts and flip-flops eight months out of the year. .380 is more than adequate in these conditions, in fact, you need to consider 9x19's penetration in these parts.
My wife was a small woman and in her last ten or so years the Ruger LCP .380 worked perfectly as her everyday carry . As she got older she did have some arthritis in her hands and also a small pistol was easier to carry . The lighter recoil let her put seven rounds on target quickly and confidently when we practiced . Yes , quicker than I could put six .38s on the same target .
@@GhbtGhbtMaybe I should have been more specific . It was very manageable for her with the 90 grain hydra-shok ammo as compared to any subcompact 9mm she tried , or my .38 snubby or any other pistol she tried that was small enough for her to carry. Yes , .380 can be “snappy” , but doesn’t break your hand .
Another advantage of CCW in .380, is sound energy. Especially in closed quarters, like a bedroom or restaurant...and close up. No time to put on ear protection. .380 in subsonic might cause a little ringing in the ears for an hour or two...but unlikely any permanent damage to yourself or innocent bystanders. 9mm on the other hand, in self defense loads, can be just the opposite. It's why also I load .38 special subsonic in my CCW S&W revolver, instead of 357 Magnum. To me, it's a huge issue. I do not subscribe to the 'better lifelong tinnitus than being dead'. I do not want to suffer for years because of some creep. At self defense distances, .380 and 38 Special is worth the tradeoff...both being effective enough for most situations. In longer distance situations, I carry .45 Auto, all subsonic...a nice 'boom'...and just a few hours of ear ringing. Bless you, sir. You have been always a great entertainer AND source for a LOT of knowledge!
I thought my friend's son was shooting his 22 and didn't put my ears on but it was the 350. I'm a lot more conscious of hearing damage after that and have been thinking about 380 for that reason plus god forbid I missed an intruder and one of my family members were in the room behind them.
Thank you for putting that out there!! I’m a 65 year old still working hairdresser with arthritic hands. I have both calibers but prefer my .380s all day long. That 365 racks like butter and minimal recoil.
In the 80's I carried a 357 magnum. In the 90's I carried a 40 caliber. In 2000 I switched to 9mm. Now, at the age of 70, my every day carry is a Glock 42 with Trijicon HD XR Night Sights and a 9 round ETS magazine fitted with an XGRIP for a full three-finger grip. I load the magazine with 8 rounds maximum, plus one in the chamber, to ensure 100% reliability. Ammo of choice is Underwood Extreme Penetrator 380+P. This combination has very little recoil, is very controllable and EXTREMELY accurate! I carry it 24/7 in a DeSantis Nemesis Pocket Holster and honestly it's so light and compact that I forget it's there. The best self-defense pistol is the one you never leave home without!
Daniel wenzel, i have seen you comment that you own a Glock 42 on every single last 380/Glock 42 video in existence on RUclips. I’ve seen you comment about your Slightly modified Glock 42 more times then I’ve seen my father irl
I want one. It appears the bugs have been worked out of the G42. The new BG2 I'm not so sure. Now when are you going to finish writing that Game of Thrones series?
People and guns are funny. I'm 84. Never have liked the 9mm although I have owned several. I have 2 380's one being the S&W Bodyguard. I have trouble racking the slide but prefer it as a carry along when I am out and about. I also use and shoot 38/357's and enjoy them. Not really recoil sensitive but my hands just don't work the way they used to. I appreciate what you said about being gentle with folks about caliber and gun selection. Maybe in a few years some of the younger folks will face the same problems!
In the big picture, caliber doesn’t matter as much as training, practice, and trust in whichever firearm someone chooses to use. A .380 that is proven reliable and accurate is much better than an untested 9mm
Since picking up my Bodyguard 2.0 I'm sold on carrying .380. 12+1 .380 in what amounts to the size of a large cellphone? Amazing. With modern rounds like Hornady Critical Defense or Underwood Xtremes, I have no qualms about carrying .380.
@@ryanusa860 I think most complaints can be traced to the tolerances and how stiff the gun is from the factory. The gun really needs to be broken in before it's judged on reliability. I've fired about 500 rounds through mine of hollow points and fmj rounds. You've probably seen people complain that the magazine springs are really hard to load or the thumb safety is hard to toggle which were both true in my case but after two shooting sessions it feels much much better. I can load the mags fully after a few load/unload cycles and the thumb safety went from really hard to toggle, to what I would describe as perfect. The recoil spring and slide racking was very stiff from the factory and some of my very first rounds fired had a failure to feed from the slide snapping back too quickly but once it loosened up a tiny bit, it hasn't done it since. Buy one, shoot a few hundred rounds through it and I think you'll have the same conclusion. This gun is just so small and the tolerances very tight accordingly.
@@mikeoxlong3676 That’s what I’d do. I’m happy with FMJs for self defense. Sold my J frame and regret it. Rarely need a pocket gun these days but it’s nice to have one in the collection.
My first gun was a stainless steel .380 AMT Kurz Backup from somewhere in the 1990’s, little thing has held up through the years, still one of my favorite pistols!
Being a avid hunter ive found out caliber/bullet type/broadhead dont really matter.its more about what you personally are most accurate with and comfortable shooting.
There's been plenty of people that have been unalived by a reliably placed .380 round in a self defense situation. Even 22LR is better than nothing when needed. Like you said Sir, it may not be something the "geniuses" would use, but I certainly wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of one of those little freedom seeds sent my way at high velocity.
I always dislike the "it's better than nothing" argument because it implies a fantasy where my only options would be a .380 or nothing. When this isn't the case because gun stores sell other guns lol.
Everyone should always use a 3/4" drive ratchet because bigger is obviously better. And nobody should own anything smaller than a one-ton dually either.
@@nokachi3339 And nobody's arguing that .380 ballistics are better than a 9mm. We've all seen the charts. Some people choose a GMC Canyon over a full size Silverado because it fits their circumstances and lifestyle better, even if they don't get the higher towing capacity.
The Ruger Security .380 is a great option for the reasons you listed. Easy to rack, less felt recoil than 9mm, easy to conceal, with a decent trigger. My only reason for going 9mm over .380 is cost per round. It’s just more expensive to train with .380 (unless you find bulk ammo on sale) than bulk 9mm.
I love my .380’s. Even before I got “old”. Low recoil, easier recovery for follow-up shots, usually smaller more concealable pistols & gear. Bullet choice at FPS very important- see the many gel tests out there- Underwood extreme defenders for carrying, XTP reloads for training.
Thank you Hickcock 45 l carry a M&P Bodyguard in 380. With an Alabama Holster. Both are wonderful. My favorite caliber is 44 Magnum. Unfortunately I sold both of my Rugars. At 75 my arthritis has weakened my whole body. Especially my hands.
@@GhbtGhbtMany people get arthritis much sooner. People who work with their hands, or shoot a lot, are more likely to get it earlier. My dad started getting it in his hands in his 40s and the Dr told me that I may be starting to get it in my right hand at only 28
Started shooting 1911s in 45acp at age 10. My first hand gun was a 44mag. I can't conceal either. Having been a auto mech most of my life and sports, the hands have taken a beating. So I'm one of those guys at 69 who carries an lcp sometimes, and looking to by a Kimber micro 9. Considered a S&W EZ but would rather not have a striker fired pistol. Carry what you can shoot. Carry what you have confidence in and works for you.
TONS of videos of people getting shot by a 380 and still assaulting the victim! It is too weak! Just because someone would say they dont want to get shot by it or anything for that matter does not automatically make it a great self defense round. That's one of the weakest arguments to ever exist in the gun world!
WhY wONT tHeSe dOubTeRS tAKe a rOuNd iF tHey sAy itS sO wEAk?! Ok fudd. Go get ready for your bingo night, you don't want to be late to Friday stewed prunes jamboree do ya?
Fyi: I don't think there are "tons" of instances out there as you described. Also FYI: look up the reason .380acp was invented. Well, I'll be damned, for self defence!!!! Folks, a 380 will make any man, any size become very "un-alive". Please know the facts before puting out false information.😣@@bengarcia1091
I bought the ruger security 380 about 6mos ago and it is so easy to shoot for me. I'm 69 and my G3c in 9m was getting harder for me to shoot. I spend a little more for ammo, but I have more control with the 380. I'm not ashamed of the fact that I'm getting weaker physically and my 380 will beat your sharp stick all day long!
I got a Sig P238 when I was going to carry while driving at night. Things changed and i dont need to carry now. But my choice to pick the 238, was a great one. That little pistol suprised me by just how accurate it is. I would totaly trust the 238 for self defense, with proper bullet choice. I normally shoot plain 380 ammo, but can get several self defense bullet designs. Damn, now i want to go shoot it. Maybe go visit range for and hour tomorrow. Thanks for the great video's!
About a year ago, a little more, I was in a sporting goods store with a large firearms department, looking at their handguns, nearby, a woman in a wheelchair and her female companion appeared to be shopping for a defensive tool, the salesperson seemed somewhat uninterested in showing them much, barely answering their questions but displaying a couple of 9mms, a Sig, a Smith and Wesson I think, they seemed to struggle with the mechanics of the guns, finally, I engaged them, asked a few questions and pointed them to a relatively (to me) new firearm, the Beretta 3032 Tomcat, yes, .32 is even smaller with less punch, but they immediately saw it as something they could handle, which seemed to them better than a larger caliber that they couldn't
I have my grandfather's 1903 Colt 32acp. He carried it in the 1920s when he was a cop. Still haven't had anyone volunteer to catch a round from it. I imagine that would definitely ruin somebody's afternoon.
Hang on to your grandfathers 1903 !! That is one classy AND classic firearm. I have too many revolvers and semi auto’s than I care to admit. Of those, 2 are Colt 1908’s and 1 is like yours…..a 32 1903. Those 3 guns would be a few of the very last I would EVER get rid of……!!! John Browning Masterpieces.
I've tried (and bought) numerous 9mm, .38 spcl, .45 acp, 357 mag, etc. and I carry a silly little .380 Bersa. It fits my hand, I shoot it better than most everything that I can conceal carry and it's comfortable in my waste band holster. And it isn't due to the low price of the Bersa. In fact, I have one micro 9mm that I paid $1,250 for that sits in my safe because it just doesn't work for me. Don't carry any gun that you can't shoot well. And, if it isn't comfortable to carry, you might not have it when you need it.
The little 380 Bersa is an excellent little pistol, I used to EDC one myself, I put 1000 rounds or so thru that little thing and it never failed once even with cheap steel case ammo.😊
Thank you Mr Hickok my friend you hit the nail on the head, I’m one your talking about very hard to rack a pistol or carbine, hand really hurt, thank you so much 👍
I came from a large family. When the entire clan gets together, to include very peripherally acquainted or friends, there are always "new" people to meet. It started with my sister and my wife who are the same age. They wanted to learn to shoot, get a pistol, get a license, and carry. We did a lot of "learning to shoot" and safety FIRST. 9mm was too much. 380? Much better. Word gets out, hey this old 28yr Army veteran does know what he is doing. All the relatives (women) and their offspring and friends and family from their spouses side of their extended families were all calling and coming out to the ranch to learn firearms so they could carry. Lots of the Smith EZ guns, etc. were purchased. I trained soldiers forever. When training women I use the same techniques. Around guns I approach it quietly, calmly. You want everyone calm, not about to crap themselves. Long story short, yes, A gun is better than no gun, even a 380. I like a G19 myself, but that works for me. Everyone is different.
Thank you for this video. I have arthritis in me wrist. Firing my 9mm 365 feels like getting hit w a hammer every round. I’ve beeb considering switching to a 380 for a while. You answered the questions I had!
THANK YOU for posting this you make so much sense unlike some snobs on you tube , i love the .380 for a number of reasons and another great gun in that caliber is the ruger security ,ez to rack /it's always better to have a gun on you than one gathering dust in your safe ..............and if .380 is what your comfortable with so be it !
Took my wife for her time at the range, she shot .22lr pistol for most of the time then let her tried 9mm toward the end. It scared the heck out of her and also ripped some skin off her palm. She was so terrified that won’t ever try it again. Not everyone can handle 9mm. I will have her try the 380 after she enjoys the 22lr a bit more.
New to carry here. My first carry gun is a P232. Accurate, light and small enough to conceal in my anti-gun state. I also picked up a Remington RM380 for summer carry. Both .380, and all the protection I need. I don't feel the need to prove my manhood with a bigger caliber.
It can be better than a 20mm cannon if you have it ready and available when you need it, Vice a non accessible pipe dream. I carry .380 on occasions I don’t carry my .40. I’m perfectly comfortable with either my S&W 380 EZ or Ruger Security 380 as my CCW du jour. No matter what, carry extra ammo, train well, and don’t leave home without it/them.
I carry an LCP when I need to go deep concealment. It’s actually not easy to rack, because it’s so small and the slide isn’t really easy to grip. But, it’s tiny and light. Just what the Dr ordered in certain situations.
I carried a Bodyguard 380 in my front pants pocket every day for years. I was always glad to know I had it even if I never had to use it for self 😊defense.
CK SOME OF THE BALLISTIC TESTS With the newer ammo the 380 matches or exceeds the 9mm in some cases do your research and don't feel under gunned with the 380
@@NeverAgain651 ~ I ‘can’ see the point of owning a 9mm and especially the big advantages of a lighter weight 380 with easier slide racking and lower recoil of course. But I can ‘not’ see any point in owning a heavier weight 45 because the extra power is not needed unless a person is in Bear country with the disadvantages of extra recoil and less magazine capacity.
@@TrollMeister-s6n ~ Very briefly can you tell me any advantage of owning a 45 over a 9mm when not in bear country? Police in Alaska use 45s but they are in bear country. For most police departments the 9mm and 40 are enough.
I wear a dress shirt and dress pants every day, wearing an inside the waistband just isn’t realistic. Almost every .380 owner I meet carries it because of the form factor. I tend to be a fan of the saying “a 380 with me all the time is more useful than a .45 at home”
If you can concealed .380 pistol comfortably then you can carry a 9mm, a .45 or just about anything else, concealed and comfortably within reason. Appendix carry, just stop for a moment, think it through because things can and happen and ask yourself, is it really all that and is it worth it? Its a fad and its been proven many times that it is no faster than other carry methods and in a very close contact situation, nearly impossible to reach. The only way to access appendix carry is to put one of your arms and a hand in the position of least strength possible. Just think it through.
@@bluewickedburner huge difference in appendix carrying a 9, 40 or 45 than carrrying like a ruger lcp 380 in your front pocket. I know because I carry the ruger at work. No wa could I pull off a bigger gun at work. Would 18 rounds of 9 mm be better? Absolutely but I would never be able to carry it at work. When I am off I do carry a 9.
@ Unless you wear spandex concealability is a matter of placement, proper attire and avoiding the "look at me" behaviors so common among many who carry. Stop brushing your carry, it's either there and secure or you failed to secure it and it fell away or someone took it. Lose the head on a swivel behavior, nothing says carrying more than your head constantly looking around like you stole something, learn how to look around without being so obvious. If you carry 5 extra magazines or 4 speedloaders, rethink the paranoia, dump the batman belt unless you are the police. Loose the first aid kit, the flex cuffs and the laundry list of EDC stuff, you are unlikely to need it because if you do have to shoot and you hit what you shot at you are not the first responder, you're supposed to disengage and let the first responders do their job. There are plenty of people who can conceal a 1911 while others can't conceal a TP22. The people who think they conceal well usually ask their friends or family. Newsflash, its the people who aren't used to seeing you and give you a pass that can pick you out right away. You know who else can pick you out? Most criminals. Then there is the myth about printing. Yeah, it's a myth that if you print then the firearm isn't concealed. Learn what the word "concealed" means. If the firearm is directly observable it isn't concealed. There are all kinds of thing people will have on their person that when not outwardly observable look like like a firearm under whatever clothing is being worn. From mobile phones, to knives, to slim fit water bottles, glasses cases and the list goes on. If someone else can't actually see the firearm it is concealed and its the myth or going for the okeedoke if someone says something that perpetrates that myth. You can carry a glasses case and pepper spray next to it under a shirt and it can appear like like a pistol under there.
A shot in the heart is a shot in the heart no matter how big or small the projectile is. There's also the concealability aspect. We all come in different shapes and sizes, so a person might just want the smallest pistol they can find with "close to" 9mm performance, and as Hickock said, hand strength, or disability or whatever. Judging people based on their self defense carry choice is in very poor taste. We're all on the same team here.
In today's world the 380 is one of the most pointless rounds there is! Anything a 380 can do a 9mm can do as well. Want less recoil 9mm loaded down. Want a much hotter round than a 380 a 9mm +p can do that as well. Back in the day I get it 380s were the only really small conceal guns. But today that's just not the case! 9mm are very small now. Too weak to rack the slide on a 9mm automatic, well they even make 9mm revolvers! So again I say the 380 is super pointless!
@@bengarcia1091Telling someone to get a 9mm revolver for that reason is absolutely ridiculous. Also the availability of “loaded down” 9mm ammo is quite slim in some places. Loaded down ammunition may not cycle properly in some firearms. You can feel free to blindly worship 9mm but keep your biases to yourself
.380 bullet technology has improved so drastically in recent years that it really is a very capable self defense round now that should not be overlooked
The ammo design you choose is just as important as the caliber. A few years ago, I came across a web site where they tested various ammo types in every popular handgun caliber. I found it quite interesting that one particular ammo in .380 consistently expanded more than most 9mm ammos in ballistic gel. (.380 is actually the same diameter as 9mm; it is just a little lighter on lead and powder.) Penetration was slightly less -- but easily deep enough (something like 8", if I recall correctly) to get the job done. A bullet doesn't need to exit the target to do what it should -- and, in fact, you usually don't WANT it to.
I’m 37 too but for some reason remember the day Roosevelt died. Mysterious but there you are. I still squeeze a spring clamp 20 times each hand daily despite the arthritis to keep my hand strong but I would welcome the lower recoil and ease of staying on target of the .380. I can see no evidence that I am a woman, but can’t be entirely sure these days.🤭
I own a sig p238 for its small size and I usually carry it if I need a pocket pistol or something smaller than my G26 or my S&W 638. great pistol. never had any failures with it. and .380 is probably the smallest caliber I'd carry while in the city
I have carried the same weapon for years. We travel full time, and I use a SneakyPete holster, and have only been asked a couple of times what it is. I’ve put probably a couple of thousand rounds thru it, and am completely comfortable with using it in defense.
Female here with small, but not weak hands cause I weight train. I'm getting ready to go to the range and fire a bunch of .380's and 9MM to see which grip and slide works best for me. I'm getting my CPL as well and have to be able to carry it fairly easily without printing (5'2 120 lbs) when I want to do that. One of my ex-boyfriends is an expert shooter and does competitions and was in the special forces for many years. Until very recently, he told me he exclusively carried a .380. But now he's all about the Staccato C. I'll try out the Staccato CS and see how I like it. Once again, thanks for your very informative videos!
You’re definitely going about it the right way, pick, and choose which one fits you best. At approximately $2500 that staccato CS would be one expensive gun.
Some people look down their nose at 380 like it's 22lr for self defense, but as you said, I wouldn't jump in front of that 380. I have a 9mm but considering getting a small 380 for some carry situations
lol I love when you’re expanding something and in the middle of explaining start blasting. 😂☠️😂 pow pow pow (you notice it doesn’t jump much) pow pow pow 😂☠️😂☠️🫡🫡🫡🫡

Got my PPK/S as young as I could (influenced by Bond), but recently got the Geisen (sp?) Turkish copy of the Beretta, with a tip barrel in .380. It helps my wife who has problems racking a slide. So she has a good defense gun that is big enough to do damage, but she can handle it!
I bought one of the S&W 380 EZ Slide pistols in 380 a few years ago for my wife as a house gun. She couldn't rack the slide of the Ruger LCP but can easily handle the S&W. Also the larger size grip frame makes recoil way more manageable in the larger gun. I really like the gun too as it is easy to hit with. With modern bullets, the 380 can be a decent defense round.
Even though I'm only in my fifties, I've suffered from life long arthritis. I have no problem shooting big guns of any caliber, but big guns are hard to conceal. Small guns are a completely different game though. They really hurt my hands when I shoot them. This is the main reason I carry 380 for my small EDC. I'd carry 32 if it wasn't so expensive to train with.
My primary EDC is a browning black label which is a small 1911 chambered in .380. The reason I like it so much is because it’s very easy to conceal and I have always liked the redundant safeties on a 1911.
We need the legend to the review the legendary HK MK23 - After all these years I don't we have ever seen you with that one. Would love to see your impressions of it
Ammo selection, which has come a long way, shot placement, reliability, all are important factors regardless of caliber. Choose the gun and caliber you can shoot well and afford.
Better? That may be subjective, although ballistic data speaks for itself. But, if that is what you "will" carry and carry daily, then carry that caliber. Protect yourself and your loved ones. Thx. H45.
Thank you! Up to 20 yards the 380 is great and it makes a lot of sense for older people as you rightly point out. In addition to it being softer recoiling, there are inexpensive handguns like the Ruger Security 380 with very easy to rack slides. If you're looking for concealability, then the new version of the Smith and Wesson Bodyguard is a superbly concealed pistol. I sell the latter to customers who like a backup handgun together with their main and usually bigger carry pistol.
Well I can tell you that having spent over 25 years as a police officer in a city we were mostly dismissive of the .380......however, one evening as a husband was shooting at his wife's lover driving away in a Ford Ranger pick up, the shooter hit the tuck several times. One of the rounds went through the bed, through the cab, through the seat striking the driver and the passing almost all the way through him, ultimately resulting in the driver's death. Since that time I had a new respect for the caliber and have no qualms about carrying it off duty. Do I want to go into an active shooter situation with a .380? Probably not. But I am not concerned that if I am out in my gym shorts and want something lighter I have NO worries that this caliber won't deliver with the results that I need.
I’m a 23 year old male I bought a ez380 off my dad and it’s my edc has been for a while. Any gun that goes bang will protect you but I can shoot my 380 better than my 9s. I don’t care what people say about the round in my gun because I’m confident in it nothing else matters
Love how beastly 380 ammo have gotten. Was never a bad round, it only got better with time.
Just expensive.
I'm an HVAC tech and I can't always appendix carry, so I pocket carry my Ruger LCP-MAX 10+1 with me every single day. Love that gun.

Ruger security. 380. Light rack system. I have 3 of them.

You are exactly right, my wife couldn't rack a 9mm. But she can the .380. Plus it is lighter to carry with a full mag.
thank you for the continuing with the great content!
RACK ? have you asked her?
It's also overall far more pleasant on smaller and lighter guns, and what is an uncomfortable gun but a gun you won't shoot and train with?
I've never actually shot a .380 but don't blowback guns need a stronger spring? The 9s I've shot have been extremely easy to rack.
@@XenFPVnot all .380s are blowback
@@MaxWray111 This makes sense !
I know somebody that has been using the Ruger LCP for years, and he likes it. Its a pretty solid and cheap EDC if youre wanting to get started on that caliber
I do here in Oklahoma during hotter weather.
You should try the new s&w body guard or the ruger lcp max
LOL
I feel like some people forget that 380 and 9mm are the same diameter.
With the new ammo that's out there for .380..it's a quite capable round for self defense..
thanks for your service MR Ox and well said.
Thank you for your service!!
Got my wife the Ruger Security 380. It's super smooth, accurate and 100% reliable
Ruger Security 380 has 15 round mags. Hard to find but worth getting

My Wife shoots the S&W Shield EZ, and when I shot it, I was absolutely amazed at the accuracy, even at 50 yards!
You're shooting a .380 at 150feet? My ass
After almost 10yrs of EDC i recently got my first 380 to carry in summer, suit, and athletic clothing. Loving that optional pocket carry.
Yes , quicker than I could put six .38s on the same target .
accuracy trumps power always
Lcp has high recoil!! What are you talking about??
@@GhbtGhbt lighter than a 9 in a subcompact.
Yeah wth. Low recoil vs a magnum round maybe
In the past few months, I've started to carry ear plugs as part of my edc.
Carrying ear pro as edc is too funny
380 has less recoil. And is basically a 9mm short. I trust it 100%.

I carry a Glock 42 as well. It does disappear on the body
Daniel wenzel, i have seen you comment that you own a Glock 42 on every single last 380/Glock 42 video in existence on RUclips. I’ve seen you comment about your Slightly modified Glock 42 more times then I’ve seen my father irl

Yes sir and sooner than later
That's not a _maybe,_ it's a *guarantee!*
In the big picture, caliber doesn’t matter as much as training, practice, and trust in whichever firearm someone chooses to use. A .380 that is proven reliable and accurate is much better than an untested 9mm
Well said. I hope your hand sensitivity is manageable otherwise.
Or, simply, freedom of choice. God bless. A Brazilian hug 🇧🇷
I love my G42. The Alabama holster works great!
Since picking up my Bodyguard 2.0 I'm sold on carrying .380. 12+1 .380 in what amounts to the size of a large cellphone? Amazing. With modern rounds like Hornady Critical Defense or Underwood Xtremes, I have no qualms about carrying .380.
But do they run reliably? I keep reading about problems so I've held off from buying one.
@@ryanusa860 , Walther PD380.
@@ryanusa860I've heard the same thing so I carry fmj. Fmj is reliable in the bodyguard 2

@@BehindTheDerek No one said .380 is useless, it's main drive is deep concealment, but it certainly isn't better than a 9mm.
@@nokachi3339 And nobody's arguing that .380 ballistics are better than a 9mm. We've all seen the charts. Some people choose a GMC Canyon over a full size Silverado because it fits their circumstances and lifestyle better, even if they don't get the higher towing capacity.
@@nokachi3339 what do you carry?
Right on, well presented. I'll downsize my 9mm when I get old. Meanwhile I keep up with the hand exercises. 71 locked and loaded 😊

@@GhbtGhbt Some get it at 18. It can also develop from an injury. Usually increases with age
@@GhbtGhbtMany people get arthritis much sooner. People who work with their hands, or shoot a lot, are more likely to get it earlier. My dad started getting it in his hands in his 40s and the Dr told me that I may be starting to get it in my right hand at only 28

@maryhumphrey9568 yes.

TONS of videos of people getting shot by a 380 and still assaulting the victim! It is too weak!

Well sell rest of your guns or give them away free to folks like me who are poor.

I am retired and wear shorts 90% of the time. My LCP2 is a perfect pocket pistol.
I carry an LCP when I need to go deep concealment. It’s actually not easy to rack, because it’s so small and the slide isn’t really easy to grip. But, it’s tiny and light. Just what the Dr ordered in certain situations.
Haha!, yep, I actually carry mine when I go to the doctors office in a sticky holster in my front pocket, everywhere else for that matter.😊

But I can ‘not’ see any point in owning a heavier weight 45 because the extra power is not needed unless a person is in Bear country with the disadvantages of extra recoil and less magazine capacity.
@@royjohnson465 I "can" see the the point of 9mm, .380, and .45, as I own and carry all three at times. Hope your vision improves...
This is the only based option

Definitely not correct about concealability, you’re just plain wrong.

Wow, you seem to know everything about everything but nothing about some things.
And you’re to blame
Well said!
❤
At 80, I acquired a S and.W EZ in .380...I could easily rack the slide, and manage the recoil better than a 9MM...
37? It reminded me of Jack Benny when he would always say, he’s 39.😂
I absolutely adored watching Jack Benny when I was a kid. He was 79 years old when he died. So he was 39 for 40 years.
.380 bullet technology has improved so drastically in recent years that it really is a very capable self defense round now that should not be overlooked
Underwood ammo, those fluted rounds are extremely amazing rounds proven in all different tests.
There is also another point. The effective range is shorter with the 380 so proving self defense is easier.
You mean for like if a squirrel jumps you?

Got my PPK/S as young as I could (influenced by Bond), but recently got the Geisen (sp?) Turkish copy of the Beretta, with a tip barrel in .380. It helps my wife who has problems racking a slide. So she has a good defense gun that is big enough to do damage, but she can handle it!
I sure wouldn't want to be hit by a 90gr JHP at around 1,000fps.
You make the art of shooting look oh so easy @hickok45 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
My primary EDC is a browning black label which is a small 1911 chambered in .380. The reason I like it so much is because it’s very easy to conceal and I have always liked the redundant safeties on a 1911.
Glock 42 guy right here
My great great aunt carried a .22 revolver. That woman was a force to be reckoned with, regardless of what she could get her hands on.
We need the legend to the review the legendary HK MK23 - After all these years I don't we have ever seen you with that one. Would love to see your impressions of it
Damn 37 LOL I just turned 22 for the third time in Aug great video as always God bless
Great content! Enjoyed it.
Thank you 😊
Ammo selection, which has come a long way, shot placement, reliability, all are important factors regardless of caliber. Choose the gun and caliber you can shoot well and afford.
Yo I seen this guy on RUclips 5 years ago then couldn't find him again. Crazy I found his channel again. I'm happy lol.

Good enough for Bond, good enough for me
Thank you. for your help.
Thank you 🙏 from Turkey 🇹🇷🙏
I like the 380 acp cartridge a lot. Beretta 84fs and Sig P232 are my favorite pistols chambered for the cartridge.
