    Thanks for sharing your reaction to a song that urges the listener to recognize and appreciate the beauty of life and nature. This is how they opened their 2015 Wembley Arena show.

    I wonder if any members of the orchestra, who recorded the backing tracks, were there at Wembly?
    I can imagine the guy rocking out next to me saying, "hear that trombone? Yeah, that was me!"

    Nightwish Army US Division here, I have been listening to Nightwish for over 15 years and they still are my favorite band. American bands are boring to me. The only other band I love is Within Temptation from Holland. Ghost Love Score is my favorite. Shoemaker from Hellfest 2022 I recommend as it is my 2nd favorite.

    I love this song, but especially this live version (not talking about the special effects). Fortunately they changed some things live!
    Many Nightwish songs are grower, so maybe give some more listens.

    Hello there ! I liked your honest opinions, this is what reacting is all about. This was the start piece from Wembley 2015 and it needs to be continued by the next
    one "yours is an empty hope", they belong together. If you´ve never heard Floor growl, then this is the one to do. I hope all the best in the future to you both.

    I never get tired of listening to Nightwish. And tbh I have never seen any other band with such a banger opener to start a show. But taste is different, so I accept your comments.
    Greetings from Germany
    Oh, just had a look at your catalog of videos and was truly surprised. I mean - can that really be true that you never reacted to EPICA???? They are like a twin-band to Nightwish and their rabbit hole might be as deep.
    If you want to scratch the surface I would recommend one of the songs from their latest full-orchestra-show 'Symphonic Synergy' - lets say ARCANA:

    This is a good show opener, but I prefer Dark Chest of Wounders as an opener :) "Nightwish spoiled" that is a verry good statement, I pretty much cant listen to "regular" music, its to simple...

  • @Columbasta
    @Columbasta 6 дней назад +6

    I'm with Steph on this one. It's good but when a band is around for such a long time, some familiar patterns will emerge. Which is not necessarily a bad thing. "Dark Chest of Wonders" revisited, with less magic & "follow the madness, like Alice once did" and more "follow the science".
    In short: Troy got Tuomas some books about evolution & cosmology. Tuomas, remembering his old fascination with natural science, then embarked on a mission trying to infuse neo-Darwinism with Imaginaerum-like magic and wonder.
    He kept at it over the course of three consecutive NW albums, all "written for Floor's voice". Which is interesting because Floor really shines in songs that were written before she took Nightwish tt next level. If anything, this "Animal Planet" series of NW albums challenged Floor to slowly change her majestic voice into just another instrument at Tuomas' disposal. This was an inevitable evolution because, as Troy explained so eloquently: "there are no egos in this band" 😇

    • @youaremysecretstream
      @youaremysecretstream 6 дней назад +3

      I love this performance (and Floors voice in this song) and I don´t struggle with the content of the songs at all. BUT IMO you´re totally right with the use of Floors voice (and the egos😬, but "a band isn`t a democracy"). Always training things you can´t do keeps you away from your strenght and leads to a loss of your main power (plus aging, what`s a big thing for singers). Maybe finding new sounds in your own voice satisfies her. But that`s not ours to evaluate. Let`s see if Floors new stuff is a bit more agressiv because of her personal lyrics.

    • @ToTheWolves
      @ToTheWolves 6 дней назад +1

      You’ve got so many good points.

    • @Columbasta
      @Columbasta 6 дней назад +2

      @@youaremysecretstream Floor is a self-described vocal nerd, which resonates with the points you put forward. Plus there's also the observable fact that she started to protect her instrument during the N-American leg of NW's EFMB world tour in 2015. At Wacken 2013, she basically still sang like she used to in her former bands (ReVamp, After Forever). So as you indicated, there were more factors in play besides Tuomas famously "encouraging" her to not use her gorgeous coloratura soprano voice too much and ditto for the growling.
      As tt content: yeah.. that was just a general comment by yours truly, coming from a scientist's perspective. I actually met with Richard Dawkins at our ethological lab in Utrecht back in the day. I remember he was thoroughly impressed by us Dutchies being rather tall.
      NW's lyrics are fine on the last three albums, although the "hail Gaia" vibe does get a tad tedious for me personally. My main gripe, i.e. this "follow the science" attitude, mainly transpires in the odd interview that's anything more than a mere sales pitch. My fundamental issue with said attitude is that it's dangerous to scientific research itself which thrives in an atmosphere of always questioning the science, no matter the consequence.
      The "I will follow" perspective is what distinguishes Scientism (as a cult-like phenomenon) from actually doing science. Before you know it, the crowd will gather around the multi-colored yarn of a new dogmatic system of certainties. Ironically, if Tuomas' lyrics are anything to go by, that's exactly what he purports to avoid ("every child worthy of a better tale").
      So I will never tire of trying to convey to laymen just how difficult it is, even for seasoned scientists, to really stay true tt scientific method which revolves around organized (self)criticism. /rant Cheers!

    • @noneofyerbeeswax8194
      @noneofyerbeeswax8194 6 дней назад +2

      @@Columbasta Did he give a scientific explanation as to why the Dutchies are so tall? Something about evolution and natural selection perhaps?😁
      Unfortunately, the scientific method is not applicable to modern science which, like all things modern, is a mere vehicle of propaganda. This includes modern art of course, which Nightwish is part of. The “scientific” content serves as “proof” that the music is great… somehow. I see this as a variation of the usual gaslighting and appeal to authority. Same story as with the modernist paintings that seem to be created by spilling paint over the canvas randomly. But all the art critics tell us it’s the greatest thing ever, and if you disagree, you must be lacking mental capacity.
      I personally fail to see how the myth of evolution contradicts the myth of creation. The entire “science vs. church” debate seems manufactured to me. In fact, it WAS manufactured and we have proof of that. Dawkins & Co. are just continuing the project that started almost 200 years ago. His bio throws up all the usual red flags and all-too-familiar names...
