Marko(rock voice), is amazing on vocals, so is the band as a whole. "The Islander" is another one with Marko (mellow, clean, beautiful voice, more power towards the end of the song) entertaining the crowd of 24 000 people in Tampere 2015 practically on his own, the man and his bouble neck guitar, this time he is using the guitar part only. Rest of the band joining him towards the end of the song. Totally different from any other Nightwish song, with folky Celtic vibes, brought by Troy, the multi-instrumentalist from the UK. Composition by Marko himself, lyrics by Tuomas, the keyboardist, the mastermind behind Nightwish. The song wasn't a good fit for Markos own band, so Tuomas thought it could be a Nightwish song. I do listen to what you have to say, you mentioned something about childbirth in your comments, keep in mind Simone was three months pregnant when she did this retrospective concert( she has been with Epica since she was 17). I've seen both bands live, and like you stated; both bands are immaculate when it comes to live performances. I was lucky enough to be at the famous 1985 "Live Aid" concert at Wembley stadium, where Queen literally stole the show, aswell as the 2013 Wacken Open Air concert where the star of Nightwish was shining brightly. I will never forget! I look at it like this; "What Freddie was for Queen, Floor is for Nightwish. And anyone can say what they want, Floor and Freddie are THE best vocalists in the world to me. Imagine these two collaberating...that would be heaven!

Marco has an Excellent voice.. If they need some rasp, he gives it to them.. If they need some heavy harsh vocals, he does that as well. But, he can also sing clean harmonies with Floor also. I you want something heavy he sings, They do a Tribute cover of the Pink Floyd song call "High Hopes" it excellent and it only has a Male vocal so he sings it.. Emppu, the guitar player is so good wit quitar that he has time do pranks,in Wacken 2013i Emppu,, sneaks bhiind Floor and unplugs or turns down her eardips. Floor fixes them while dancing - an around 4:26 emppu returns and Floor turns back to audience him staring emppu with her eyes... Well she revengent, but that's worth new story 😅😅

marco has a solo album, so you can hear his voice in isolation both there, and on his solo songs or solo parts on nightwish
he sings alone very well in the islander, or their cover of high hopes from pink floyd
his solo work has songs like stones . or the voice of my father. both great songs too

Some other cool bands to try might be: The Hu (Rock with (Mongolian throat singing), Eluveitie (Swiss folk metal), Kontrust (What to play when someone claims to know how metal sounds like. This band is from Austria), Van Canto & Apocalyptica (Different style than Kontrust. But same reason to listen a song or two).
Well, aside from Nightwish Marco had recently released his own album (two, actually, in Finnish and in English). And he plays in Tarot.

The ‘two beard’ Viking is basplayer and 2nd vocalist Marko (Tapani) Hietala. Besides Floor and Marko NW has also a third leadsinger: multi-instrumentalist Troy Donockley. He’s British. Troy was guest musician till Wacken Open Air festival at studio albums and on stage, but together with Floor since end 2013 announced to be full member. You can hear him sing on ‘Harvest’ and frequently playing the Irish elbow bagpipes and flutes.

Marco has an Excellent voice.. If they need some rasp, he gives it to them.. If they need some heavy harsh vocals, he does that as well. But, he can also sing clean harmonies with Floor also. He does Nightwish songs that feature his more than Floor.. I you want something heavy he sings, They do a Tribute cover of the Pink Floyd song call "High Hopes" it excellent and it only has a Male vocal so he sings it.. There is also a heavy song he sings in called Master, Passion Greed.. Nightwish did this in the gap after Tarja and before Floor...

At the time, their lead singer Floor had only been in the band for a few months and many of the audience were fans of the band but did not know their new lead singer. "Shudder Before The Beautiful" was the first song they heard and they were sold from the first number.

IMHO, Nightwish pretty much defines Symphonic Metal. With Floor at the front at what was already a phenomenal band, they really are in a class by themselves. But, since you asked for other bands that are in this vein, here are some that I enjoy:
