I think the new Syrian government should borrow a page from the Ukrainians and convert the Saydnaya prison into a museum. When I visited Kiev in 2015, one of the most memorable places I visited was the "Museum of Corruption": the palatial residence (think: Hearst's Castle) of the former leader Viktor Yanukovych who fled the country after the revolution. The Ukrainians wanted visitors to their country to learn about the lavish lifestyle of their former leader (complete with a golf course, a petting zoo, and a restaurant built in the form of a pirate ship), and so they turned his mansion and the surrounding lands into a tourist attraction. Of course, the prison tells a much grimmer story, but it's still a story that people should not forget.
@@sa-k May I ask, who decides the membership of a Shura ?? (I ask as an ignorant Westerner) It sounds to be a good system .. so long as you can get the best people, who will collectively agree on the best solutions.

Thank you. I will spare you the pictures, but just know this one example. The question about forgiveness made me roll my eyes, at least the reporter seems to know it's a little sheltered. Syria is not like South Africa or Northern Island, change didn't come as a result of a low level insurgency and some political compromises. Change came only after 13 years of the most brutal civil war, and while all sides committed crimes over the course of the war, the blame for starting the whole bloody business lies entirely with Assad and his goons. It didn't end in a compromise either, the Assadist regime was soundly defeated in the end and they kept executing prisoner and dissidents right up until the very last moment. No remorse, or even just a self preserving recognition that it is over, only malice. There is no forgiveness for that, there cannot be.
It worked in Germany. Although its not so much about 'forgiveness', more an attempt to stop society from tearing itself apart over terrible injustices. Doesn't mean that those at the top get to avoid justice though.
17:00: Alshogre is telling an outright lie here; the HTS revolutionaries were assisted directly by Turkey, and one can argue indirectly by the Iraqi Kurds, the Ukrainians, the Israelis, and earlier on both the Obama-era US and the broader Arab Spring. Nobody truly makes it alone.
75 million Kurds deserve having an independent state Similar to how minorities like South Sudan, Montenegro, Serbia, East Timor (Timor-Leste), Palau, Eritrea, Czech Republic, Slovakia, North Macedonia, and Croatia recently gained their independence.
