Hey like the content. I wanted to ask you a question, is it possible for businesses who have a product ready to sell to pitch it to the retail buyers even when they have zero sales?

I have a pet product that I sell currently. It's hardware. Can you give me insight into what size of an order I would expect to get from Walmart/Petsmart/Target? I want to branch out to retail, I am selling exceptionally on Amazon. I am just afraid of what size order they will require from me. I will make whatever that number is happen, I just don't want to be taken off guard. Thanks in advance.

      Hi Thomas -
Walmart/Petsmart and Target place LARGE volume order and the quantity depends on the category buyer you meet with. They will often start with quantities based on your size as a company and place you regionally OR by category (some retailers buy nationally and some locally by category). Plan on giving pricing for 1 pallet, 1/2 truck load, 1 full truckload, and4 full truckloads on the first order.
But having said that... you can be confident that most of those stores WILL NOT buy from you unless you are already selling to high volume stores AND have multiple other retailers.
The reason is they want to reduce their risk of working with a company that would accept an order but not have the capacity, process and professionalism to deliver.
It also will protect you - most manufacturers don't realize how hard it is to fulfill for these large vendors and still make money. Large vendors want LOW prices which means you must be able to manufacture efficiently and be able to make money on high volume manufacturing. Most small manufacturers, when they start, they are making HIGH margin on low volume manufacturing. Those are two different business models in fact - even though it is making the same product. So it really is smart to scale appropriately so you have stability and longevity in your business.
So as much as you want that to be your bigger goal, my advice is to identify some smaller retailers you can target first to build up capacity.
Does that help? Would love to hear back!

@@STARTtoSOLD thank you. I can't even imagine selling a truck load of my product. I guess in not ready. I'm trying to get into retail but can't get any bites. It's a popular product. I'm on range me, but I haven't paid for the premium level goodies.

@@renaissancedad9190 it sucks really all they want is for you to pay a membership fee to supposedly get viewed by some of these big companies but I did just the standard free version and someone did contact me but they just weren't interested in my product. I just don't see the benefit in paying more money for more exposure, if they see interest in a product they like then you are lucky
