    First-time visitor to your channel but I must say I really like your approach Sir! As a Jazz player and Genos owner, I am interested in real-life applications of the features and clearly you take a musician's approach to discussing the keyboard features vs. discussing technology for technology-sake as it is often done by other reviewers. Well-done!

    Nice to have all official Yamaha videos explained here ;)
    Now I'm just wondering what is the difference between SX700 and SX900.
    i've already noticed that there are no CHORD LOOPER buttons on the 700.
    Probably you'll make a video comparison in the next weeks ;)

    Dear Jeremy, I am in my early 60s and not very computer-savvy. I have owned a Yamaha PSR 3000 for the past 20 years, and the display light has been blown. I wanted to replace it, so I ordered the flagship Yamaha PSR SX 900. I am still within the 14-day return period, considering returning it as I find the keyboard too complex. No, I do not want to create my own styles or anything like that; I just want to find styles suitable for well-known songs from the 60s, 70s and 80s created by experts. For example, in PSR 3000, if I wanted to play "I Just Called to Say I Love You", I could look under 'Music Finder' and play the "Called to Say" beat, which would be ideal for that song. I need help finding such a song bank in SX900. Please advise me which new Yamaha keyboard would suit me best.

    So Yamaha has done its homework and copied well everything it could from Korg: the touchscreen, joystick, chord looper, layout etc (it's better late than never) - even the naming convention is similar.
    Now if this is true, I can easily guess that their next model in series will be the Yamaha PA300. Oops sorry...I meant the Yamaha SX300, of course.

    Well,I just looked. The keyboard is available for pre-order, but not for purchase yet. The pricing is a little bit higher than my S770 was for the equivalent keyboard, but looks like places like Sweetwater,Kraft, etc., will discount a bit. Also, three are 61 key boards, that will fit my present case. That's nice. I'm immediately saving my pennies.

    Most new features could be implemented by software update, and most features also are already included in Korg mid range keyboards. I don't know why Yamaha doesn't include, for example, a full synthesizer or Sart2 sounds...

      I love these boards ... Great to set up 40 upper voice sets to use on the fly with any arranger ...and they have some excellent sampled voices for an entry board.... I think the pair will be great together .the ek works a lot like Yamaha which is a whole lot easier than Korgs PA OS .... Keith

  • @IamtheKingsman

    They sure snuck that one up on me. I was expecting new boards at NAMM. They hadn't even been trying to tease us and build our anticipation. So, when is Yamaha going to do a grand release, or is this just going to be left to sneak up on us. Looks like this was released in Europe, and perhaps hasn't been released in the US yet. I think you've almost been caught flat footed too since it appears that you don't actually have access to one at this time. The layout looks a lot like the regular PSR S series. I'm going to miss the well lighted keyboard that my present Yammie has. I noted that it uses a full color screen, as the Genos does, and also seems to be a bit longer board. There are a million questions to ask, and I'm very excited, but would have really appreciated a reveal such as Peter Baartmans did with the Genos

    Jeremy, I have a now ancient PA800 from Korg. I really would love to upgrade that to a PA4X 76, but honestly, I just can't afford it. I've been considering a PA1000, but now I see this, and while I recognize that this new Yamaha has stuff the Korgs have had for ages, it still piques my interest.
    Would it be possible for you, in a future video, once you get your hands on the PSR-SX 900, to do a comparison between the two. Not 'which is better', but which you like, and why.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Jeremy, this is an interesting video because you synthesised the content of all the short videos Yamaha issued today about the PSR SX900/700 so now everything is much clearer. 😎👍
    Feature-wise, these boards look great on paper at least (although much was copied from Korg I guess). Sound wise, I think I am hearing the same old samples again (even if they are good, I have got the feeling we’ve heard them too often). For instance, at 10’10’’ the sample is the same old Sax soprano which was already on the PSR E433!
    The grand piano is not bad but the Natural! piano sample of the DGX 650/660 sounds better IMHO.
    To sum it up, I have got the feeling that the ergonomics (chord looper, joystick, manual bass, touchscreen... you name it up) are brilliant, but that the sounds could have been revamped, esp. if Yamaha wants to compete against Korg on the mid-range arranger field.
    Of course, we will need longer demonstrations to decide which is best. The sweet spot might be the PSR SX600, it it ever comes out I am in (this might be the reason why the PSR S670 was not replaced yet, by the way - it would have been nonsense to issue a PSR S675 last year to replace it now with a PSR SX600).
    Looking forward to the next video. Regards.

    • @JeremySee
      @JeremySee  5 лет назад +2

      Thanks for stopping by Vinciane. You are right! Quite a lot of the usual samples being rehashed over and over again. We need to let the dust settle and evaluate it more objectively. Yamaha Singapore has loads of unsold S975 and they will not sell me a SX900 until they clear their S975. 😭
      From the pricing strategy of SX700, it is almost certain there will not be a replacement for S670 anytime soon.

    Looks like Genos light, but is in fact a PSR S970 with more YEM memory, with Revodrums and this was it.

    Ok, the bar retrigger is nice feature.

    Whoa, looks like some of the stuff like the touch screen interface's look and lit buttons came straight from the Genos! Does this have the MIDI recording, step record, and direct audio recording to USB? Those features of the Genos seem like they'd be useful, but that thing is $5,499!
    I say MIDI recording and not "user song recording" because I've seen videos of the Genos and it seems to give the user an actual MIDI file instead of a backup file that I can't extract my songs from.
    Recording to USB would be overall more convenient than finding something that connects to an output thing and recording from there, and step record…I have the PSR-E413 and in some ways I miss step record from my previous Casio CTK-671.

    SX700 = meh, it's just a PSR-S975 under a SX chassis. As usual, Yamaha is at it again for stripping down too much on the lighter version. FYI, SX900 has 1300 sounds / 525 styles and SX700 has 989 sounds / 400 styles -_-

    How can I control the levels on the 975 or 900, using an external slider control like the Korg Kontrol 2. I don’t like the touchscreen for adjusting levels of Style and Voice volumes. Please be specific.

      i used a Korg Kontrol pad as well on Pa600 as PSR S750. Just use same chanels for nano global chanel and psr keyboard chanel.

    Hi J. Ordered mine
    ..but noticed some list prices changed in UK today with some dealers
    ..!! Had heard Yamaha were maybe increasing sometime soon what with the weak £ ... You heard anything?

    • @JeremySee
      @JeremySee  5 лет назад +1

      Yes, UK dealers are adding a price buffer due to the inevitable weakening £ from the impending Brexit. 😥

      Pitch is left/right, modulation is up/down. It's largely preference.

    Why no 76 key version.... 61 to small

    • @IamtheKingsman
      @IamtheKingsman 5 лет назад

      Many of us have no use for a76 key version.it wouldn't fit in our cars for transportation to and from gigs, play dates, etc., and for us older folk, would be too heavy for us to lug around in the first place. For me, this is the perfect size.

    You know, I always appreciate your video's however, I always wonder why you have never reviewed the Casio WK-7600 and Casio XW P1 (sound performance workstation synth). Still for sale, in an under 500.00 range and still unmatched in there features and workstation abilities. As you know, the Yamaha DGX 660 displays music scores of current popular songs on its large screen which you can take out vocals of the artist or play the right or left hand or single finger cord play the record to a USB drive. I can only imagine that they are not for sale in Singapore so you do not know about them or you have discounted them because they have been around. Your reviewed instruments pale in comparison to what they offer and it makes me think you are just not aware of them because what you are saying makes no sense.
