- I've another classic truck to show you around, this time we have the FORD D-Series. This particular example was built in 1970 and was registered in 1979, it has living quarters and room to carry up to four large horses or five ponies.
I also got to check out the New VOLVO Trucks range which arrived in Ireland last Monday for journalists to test, the flagship FH16 750, FH 540 Dual Clutch, FM 420 & FMX 460 Tipper.

Hahaha the hunt for 4th gear was incredible.
Nikas Gamer 🤣found it eventually
If in doubt, grind her out - had a good laugh at that myself
@@stavros969 if you cant find it..... grind it
I was born in 78 and the only lorry my father would only drive was ford d series thank you so much for your video so so interesting 👍
The switch on the gear lever is for the two speed axle, rather than range change in the gearbox 👍🏻😊
Thanks for the Great video, Awesome to see a D Type Ford truck. Brings back memories of going out with Dad in the late 70's & early 1980's when he drove these as delivery trucks for Coca-Cola in New Zealand.
had a new D series ford 6 wheeler rigid tipper back in 1978 brings back a lot of memories 👍
Passed my hgv on a 72 k reg ford D remember the funny hand brake under the dash drove some with 6 speed box 3rd & 5th could be a bit close love the old lorry videos 👍
That newspaper clipping @42 seconds into the video is my late uncles and my fathers old work place. I actually rent part of their old premesis and store vehicles where these bodies were married onto their vehicle chassis'. My dad has lots of photographs from his time at Wakefield Bros dating 1978 to 1982. We had the premises since 2012 for my light haulage and storage business. My dad is a taxi driver now which he briefly operated from our warehouse. When we took on the building in 2006, there was some old paperwork relating to Wakefield Bros. I not sure if it is still the same company, but their is a Wakefield Bros in Warrington I think but they design kitchens and bathrooms.
We do have in our storage but belonging to a client of ours which is also on a 1979 V plate is a Ford A Series dropside pick up and also on a 1980 W plate Ford Transit dropside pick up too. Both running and both up for sale in the near future.
Next time you know you across in the UK, perhaps we can give you a tour of this building. We are not always on site, but I only live a few miles away in Sunderland and my dad down in Peterlee. My dad is always local as he is a taxi driver. I am often up and down the A1 between the North East and Essex/Kent area
Hey Stavros that truck brings back some nice memories in 1968 i had a brand new Ford D 1000 with a Cummings V8 engine, unbelievable power for it's day, 70 mph up and down hills at 16 ton gvw.
You post some great interesting videos, cheeeeers.
At 1:51 - that extra arm is to adjust the sweep shape of the wiper so that it can sweep further out to the A-pillar.
You could try a Vauxhall/Bedford tk truck and a Leyland terrier the line up comparison of the little old 70s trucks
We can always rely on something different watching stavros, but horse riding I did not expected But it was funny , can't wait to see a full road test of the Volvo Truck's.
I started my HGV career in 1974 with a D series. I finished in 2003 in a MAN TG. The only thing that got better over all those years was the trucks. Everything else got worse.
My neighbour ran d series’s on livestock work. He had three before moving onto a Volvo f6 and later a daf 2500 before retiring. He used go down to Cork and pick them up from the factory so he would be the first to drive them up to Maynooth. He used put bigger wheels and tires on them to improve fuel economy. Provided for his family by keeping the trucks working sometimes round the clock particularly from October till Christmas when cattle were moved from the west up to the east. I’ve great memories of travelling in the passenger seat when off from school , thanks for the video Stavros, much appreciated
The new look fh16 absolutely stunning love the grill 👍👍👍
Hehe. If that was parked at my stables, just sat, me and my younger sister would have a seriously good time in that. We would beg our mum to live in it. 🤣. I’d love that. Anyway greetings from Brighton and Hove UK.
You are the only person who uploads videos to youtube for truck lovers and that's GREAT!!!!
Mad how memories come back looking at the inside of that horsebox, grandparents used to own a '71(?) Beford TK with a horsebox fitted. Properly miss that oil leaking rattle box lol.
😂 someone is having tons of fun today..go stavros fo
Love the Volvos especially my fave the FH16 750 great stuff
Great video Stavros. love the new and old content. The new grill on the FH750 is great . Looks as tough as old boots. I have promised myself a Volvo 750 as my daily run around once I have won the lottery.
Absolutely love this guys enthusiasm for trucks
I occasionally used to drive one of those, the 16 tonners were about 130 HP if I remember correctly.
I don't think could drive today's trucks..way to teccy for me..I started on an F7 then on to a Freighter, then MAN F90, then Scanias of all types and power. Nice vid on the D series though..can;t remember the last time I saw one of those still in a roadworthy condition. Liked
What a Carry On, driving that horse truck.
I could just imagine Sid James and Joan Sims traveling along in it, on their way to the races and some slap and tickle going on in the living quarters! 😂
The good days with my dad in D Series ford going for bags of peat moss dad drove J& G Boyds limerick loves those days in the truck good times with all the drivers in the highway to heaven God bless ye all rip
Great video stavros I like the new volvo range and the grill also from the 750 looks exclusive 👍👍👍👍
Spoken to my dad, there were 14/15 of these D series chassis cabs that had spent there first few years on down on Sunderland Port with a flat bed bodies on them with only delivery mileage on them. 7 of them were acquired by local colliery managers to be converted into horse boxes primarily for use of transporting pit ponies off site. They were also later used for horse shows around the North of England and occasionally in the Midlands. They were sold to private ownership in the late 80's to early 90's when the collieries started closing.
Australia here, I'd love to own that truck,Id turn her into a full size camper. We have a Ford '69 model D 1000 as a wheat truck, last registered in 2012. I liked driving her as she was a comfortable truck compared to the Thames Trader she replaced. A simple truck, easy to repair and maintain, but slow compared to modern trucks with a cruising speed of 80 kmh loaded.
I do like the new fm it's going to be great for town driveing not to tall and not to low but that fh750 is something special
Awesome, much prefer the older trucks and cars than the new plastic ones nowadays!
It's like a time capsule
Good stavros for this video but it would be a good idea if you would come with series which teaching on how to drive manual truck like scania etc.
I bet some good memories made in there
Ford D series although old and outdated now was a real mare to drive. I had a 2817 with the Perkins V8, great sounding engine without a doubt but very low on power and overall hideous to drive.
Volvo- favourite trucks of all time. As a owner driver working for a Spanish company out of Malaga I had a F7 224hp and at 40+t it struggled.
I pulled tilts from Malaga to Calais return with an 85 F10 300 then bought my favourite the F12 400 EDC with 16 speed range change / splitter.
The torque monster followed, a FH16 700. This would pull a licence losing 50tgvw over the Mont Blanc gradient in top gear at 100kph!.
The new range looks nice but overall I prefer the 80s/ 90's F series. They really had something about them with their triple wipers, big chrome VOLVO letters across the front and superb engines and range / splitter box's. Plus of course polished Alcoas, Eminox stack , VOLVO bumper flaps and of course the obligatory Michelin man sitting on top of the mirrors..😊
Love the Volvo 750 but I think that new grill is horrendous, but otherwise nice new mods. Great video as usual mate
I personally agree 100% about the 750 grille! I would prefer the one on the lower range truck.
Hello Stavros969, very nice truck channel, thanks.
Best regards from Poland.
Nice ford 🏁🏁
I like ur style sir👍✌✌
Excellent video Stavros! ((I haven't even watched it yet, but it will be!))
Edit: I stand correct. Incredible variety in this video - loved the horse-riding!
What a nice oldtimer and the sound ,wow that it's great 🤘👍✌️
Great video Stavros.
I drove a Ford D series double drive tipper in the 80's before I graduated onto attics. That extra arm on the driver's side wiper was to change the angle of the wiper blade so that it could clear all the screen in front of the driver. You'd need to turn it on to understand what I'm on about. Nice Volvo lineup.
If you had 750 of that horse you were riding, you wouldn't be going anywhere in a hurry, or maybe it's not the horse that was the problem😂.
You need to get you hands on one of the new Ford F max tractor units for a test drive next.
Great video more of the old trucks please
Stavros seems to be having a lot of fun on this vid, it's fun to watch too.
pmsl stavros causing chaos in a D type ford my dad drove one for years up to Scotland from Leicester gearbox is like stirring a bucket of bricks top video especially the horse riding 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
A deep purple you say?
"Space trucking" starts playing in my head.
I miss our D Series, it blew up
Thanks for another interesting video, greetings from Sweden
Good to see how you enjoy that old truck. :D
What a really nice happy video.
Very good
Great video again stavros, brightened up my day today. Keep up the good work as usual 👍
Good film It brings up some memorys of a frends old Ford custom cab it had an extremly big stepp from 3dh to 4th gear you needed to rew it all the way on 3dh before
trying the 4th or you kill the engine. Stay safe on the weels 🚛
Love the new Volvo look - the grill and headlights are a welcome change . Hope it’s as a good a drive
10:05 Cheers !
Congrats for getting in 4th !
great vid, loved the old ford
Always great stuff on your channel mate👍👍
This was funny stavros 😂
Excellent video as usual stavros your absolutely nuts I love ya CHEEEERS!
Awesome stavros! Love your videos! Absolutely love your truck reviews but you should review truck campers too big fancy ones! That'll bring loads of views / subs to your channel!
top of the horses to yah.
oh you've got to show the wipers going on the ford!
Mr. Stavros, really thanks for showing New Volvo Series as I have commented on FB.
And the startup of Beast is quite silent as Scania.
Another quality video Stavros. Grew up on these and the old Dodge G cab. We,ll get you to Cheltenham Gold Cup yet 😀
I'd love to take Stavros to MATS with me here in the states. Then to Vegas.
That's a minor problem getting 4the but your Eaton button on the gear stick is a 2 speed back axle And not a splitter but if your quick you can go threed high axle to low axle 5th no sweat I drove one of them for to meny miles and a guy Big J from 1972.
The Volvo we got of 2014 fh13 from uk doesn’t have the gearshift next to the seat but has buttons on the dashboard RND +/- buttons too. Just think it’s how people spec them
Those wheel covers are called "Bus capsules" here in Sweden because they where very common on buses and the covers are refered as "Kapslar".
I wish those Volvo's comes up and U could test it
Nice grill & nice video.👍🍺
Those wheel trims are still very popular on horseboxes, more expensive ones have euro liner style trims i think
Can you do a Volvo F series at some point
Also I dont like the new headlights on the volvos
Great video cheeeeers
If yo u can manage to find a ford f series from 96 to review that would be awesome to see
i remember the ford d series from new,
The contrast between the 1970 Ford and the new Volvo’s was incredible! The oldest truck I have ever driven was a 1959 International, it was made the year I was born and is no longer on the road. Thanks for the video of the new Volvo’s they look like they will do the job. Did I hear you correctly and the one truck had a DCT? Double Clutch Transmission?
Micah Getty Yes the FH16 750
Wow this video was different
you riding the real 'ferrari' !! nice !!
You think that old D series was loud in the cab? See if you can track down an LAD cab Leyland / Albion. Mate of my late father had a 6x4 concrete mixer on a Leyland chassis (Might have been a Bear, they all had funny names), and you could be in passenger seat, and shout and scream, and the driver wouldn't hear you! Those were the good old days?
Was that a D1000? If it was, I suppose it was the turbo six cylinder. Just think, 16 ton, and 140 bhp. Now 7.5 tonners have more horses (sorry)than that !
90 horsepower, 94 fully loaded.
You need to do a comparison with a modern Lehel horse box.
Hi Stavros : do you think you can review a Mercedes Actros 3 or Daf XF105?That would be very nice.
FH4 750 grill 👎 but as i'm a Photographer i can't what to see them. My 2nd uncle has fond memories of the Ford D there were many in Oldham at that time very funny video keep up the great work how about a Bedford O Type next time 👍👍👍
nice video, not a big fan of the new grill on the 750, i do prefer the old one. it might look nice in gloss black tho
I didn't see the 'Best Wagin at Appleby' sticker? :D
Is it possible that it was imported from the UK in '79 and that there is thus no owner history from before then?
Brilliant video. Love the old trucks. Is it a crash gearbox?
Had a ford d series hated it happier with the TK
Actually, I am going to give my dad a call to see if he knows anything about this particular vehicle as he probably would have worked on this one. If not, he might be able to sign a light onto why it was sat unregistered for 9 years. I see what information I can find from him.
I can't imagine driving this many thousand lb vehicle with a 90HP engine! I understand diesels are all torque, but man that must be slow. I wonder what the 0-60 would be lol...
A bit of job to tilt that cabin :)
I never laughed so much in a video...how many gears have a horse? Cheers Stavros
Can you do a road test on the new FM?
Stavros, I could only see the drl's in the volvos, are there any headlights in them.
If i drive a manual horse transporter i may stall !!!!! 🐎
I started out driving a d series Ford. I think there was always one sonofabitch gear in them
The living quarters look terrible! Not to mention the brake fluid reservoir has some sort of goop in an attempt to seal up a leak.. @7:44 The steering wheel emblem should have read "TURD" not "FORD" ! Not Fords best days when it came to deaign.
My 1968 Ford D1000 with a Cummings V8 was in another world when it superseded the Thames Trader, 70 mph up and down hills , remember it was over 50 years ago.
Basically this is an old huge camper with space for 4 horses or ponies ..😆
Can u test drive mercedes 911...
I wanted to ask all this time but I always forget at the end. Are you greek Stavros or related to Greece (I'm asking cause your name is Greek)
The good old days when you had to to drive a truck. Truckers today are spoilt with these modern trucks that vertually drive them selves..
trocks
