For those who wonder, the 6th Suite was written for a 5-string 'cello. I've played the prelude to the 6th. Definitely not a walk in the park, but it's a freaking glorious thing.
Every time I watch this video, it gives me 100% motivation to practice. That 2nd mvt. cadenza is 🔥! I’ve probably watched this video more than 20 times by now.
it´s so well played, no vibrato terror, i like the piece so much. Brannen cho is wonderful and Mälkki a really great conductor (trust me, I don't say that about everyone). Lynn Harrell made 2 wonderful recordings of the Sinf. Concertante.
This is such a gorgeous harmonically and rhythmically fascinating piece. I most 'umbly submit that there was no greater writer of melody in the 20th Century. A truly unique voice. Bravo!
This has gotta be the best interpretation of the Symphony-Concerto imo. His technique is impeccable and he pulls such incredible musical lines out of the score. Slava’s interpretation may be the OG but I think Cho bests him on expressive grounds
holy shit this is phenomenal.. i was engaged throughout the whole piece. everyone knows Prokofiev Symphony Concerto is damn long.. not an easy feat, but you did it. damn
This is the 1st recording of this concerto I have heard since the powerful recording by Dmitry Rostropovich. Cho & the orchestra emphathise all the light-hearted moments while the recording by the esteemed cellist Rostropovich fails since it presents only agony without a moment of delight.
Really great, like his Cello tone. Mrs. Mälkki has a great stick technique, which is not often for the new generation of female conductors, great! I like her Messian (Symphony) and Szymanowski with Tetzlaff also.
I've always had some problems to get this work. I think the 1st movement is the least satisfying overall. I feel it too serious, without much grace or spark. Otherwise, the other movements prove to be meatier in expressivity, also with more memorable thematic material. The cellist plays this fiendishly difficult piece with an impressive technique. Definitely this performance opened my ears to this piece.
I think, the orchestra is doing its best in keeping up with the artist. I think, the result is just a very lively interpretation, at times wobbely, but it is live.
Insanely good... 🔥
I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve watched this…
Same…it’s gotta be over 100 by now
Someone is obsessed
Go watch the one by Rostropovich it is way better
@@UMBFGuy are you sure about that?

Not only did he play the hardest cello concerto brilliantly, he also played the hardest Bach suite as his encore.

Just his technique alone has me baffled, every single note without fail is as efficient as possible, amazing performance
he really hit that high E at the very end. incredible

Second movement so good that the audience couldn't help but applaud.
… and this in Finnland. Quite reserved people. It was just necessary to applaud.
@@christophbader3713no, it’s actually very disrespectful to clap in between movement of a piece

Je la connaissais par 'Rostro' , écoutée cent fois, Brannon nous en donne une merveilleuse diction, quel intense bonheur...

The only mistake in the video are the ads interrupting the performance
One of the best performance I have ever heard! Bravo
Virtuosité prodibgieuse chez ce jeune violoncelliste dans PROKOFIEV , et une belle musicalité dans l'ALLEMANDE de BACH ; Bravo !
This is such a gorgeous harmonically and rhythmically fascinating piece. I most 'umbly submit that there was no greater writer of melody in the 20th Century. A truly unique voice. Bravo!
The intonation is on point 🙌🏽
Can't stop listening to this recording! So mf lit!
You can see how the other musicians from the orchestra are enjoying the music, that is so good

A crisp salute to the Slava = OG metaphor
@@adamcathcart -- "Original Gangstah" ?? Cheers from Acapulco!
Wow wow wow wow... I can't believe how good this is. Truly incredible.
My favourite is the second movement, so charming and thrashing at the same time
This is totally a perfect performance of this magnificent composing! Happy to say that I was there listening this live at this evening.
Dude he nailed the end, just epic
12:22 just sounds so cool
Brannon, you have my whole respect, there was not one note you didn't hit perfectly!
This is so beautiful while being technically being insanely good! Glad to see Kian Soltani noticing it, too!
Charming, Musical, in style and so brillllliant!!! thank you.
Your playing has touched me the most amongst all these talented young artists. Bravo!

Amazing Brannon!!!! It's impossible to improve!

Brawner Nope it was a random audience member! Hans was in Chicago during this time! 😂
This performance is amazing! I am now a huge fan and look forward to following your career.

Très belle interprétation d'une pièce redoutablement difficile, mais aussi musicalement sensible et profonde.

Amazing performance of such a great piece, but as a cellist it hurts me to see that sweat on the cello around 21:30, it really hurts the varnish

Haven't really exposed myself to Prokofiev too much, i hear that was a mistake.
