on Dropout! www.dropout.tv/ Go get it!
Hey gang!
Brennan Lee Mulligan has been on record various times as a very sweaty man. The fact he was able to even speak in this makeup (let alone craft this multi-faceted character) is nothing short of a miracle.

Why don't you shadupp?? 😞
It literally did.
"She ate my dad." has the same energy as "He stepped on my mom!"
Spiritual sequel
@@DeepBlueInk Exactly
Ally's also came after in production order. (that's Augbert's hair on Pig #2) So it's also a prequel.
NGL, I thought the same thing!
What’s next. Grandma got- wait holy geez that’s taken… what happens to Grandpa?
You put rocks in the bag. You carry it as long as you can. And then you find somewhere you love and you put the rocks down.
One of my favorite quotes from the whole series. Up there with, "Just because you hover over the abyss doesn't mean you can't have an attitude of gratitude"
@@_LeckI'm blanking was this zac?
was the message from this supposed to be "You find values, beliefs, and ways of thinking that are important to you, carry them as long as you can, and find more people to teach them to"?
That's what I got, but I also got a rock. **holds up a rock**
@@communismenjoyer1858This was the ep with Rashawn and Ross
As someone with a huge rock collection I agree with this message. 😂
I’m obsessed with the delivery of “Dr. Gloria Staynord is a shadow monster.”
It’s the crew laughing in the background that gets me. 🤣
*how d. how do you know that*
Same delivery as "The answer to your question - almonds". I love it
One of the best record-scratch moments in history.
You could hear some staff member laugh in the background
Mom: Stepped on; Dad: ate in one bite
Window seat: 6F.
Hotel? Trivago
Ate'ed*
Omh
*et up
It’s hilarious to me that this creator was itching to animate Brennan again like the day before this episode went live.
I said as much in the comments that his VIP would surely be next and NO ONE BELIEVED ME!
@@Spiritoftherain you can hear Brennan laughing in the background of Izzy's episode, so bare minimum he was on set. No way would they have talent like Brennan on site and NOT have him do this show.
@@kainzow45 in the cutting room floor bonus episode it's revealed that their episodes were shot on the same day, because they're talking to each other in the pre-costume part. so you're right he was there!
@@Ramberta sure, but that bonus episode went live after Brennan's episode aired. I was replying to the person who "nobody believed" he would be on this season, so my example was from before it was officially confirmed.
Not sure why you bring this up like he animated him again when this is *clearly* Augbert and Vic.
Brennan's expert method of taking any element of Vic's improvisation and turning it on its head, followed by Vic expertly turning Brennan's improv back on its feet, makes this interview one of the best of the series. :D
They make a really good comedy duo. Granted, they seem to work well with a lot of people.
It was a wonderful example of 'No, and' improvisation. Improv war.
Yes... AND!
Right?! Lol I love the way they play off each other, Brennan getting more and more ridiculous and Vic taking everything he says and grounding it. This is a masterclass, between to incredible professionals and seeing it animated so well is amazing.
Augbert going on a philosophical tirade about how rocks exist because of eons of cosmic coincidences was not the existential dread I expected to have today but here we are
But did you also take in the bit about shadow monsters superspider64
I have no problem with this. For the hills they are hallowed and home to the stories of stardust across the eons of the galaxy. As are you and I, chemicals and minerals given a brief awareness of the cosmos from our individual perspectives. So treasure the rocks, and treasure the people, and treasure yourself. For we all have traveled long to get to this point.
What why? The chaos of existence is beautiful! Just because you can't control it doesn't mean it's scary!
It doesn’t have to be spooky. They’re just experienced, well-traveled if you will. They’ve even got interesting stories to tell if you get to know them, but unlike real old people that means learning geology, not talking to them.
@@DeepBlueInk I took it in like they took his father
"The reason you're unhappy is because it's always just rocks." Legitimately changed my brain chemistry
who up augin they bert
She Very on my Important until I People
She augin on my Bert until I **chomp**
i'm out here jangling my bag of rocks to make physics happen
She stay on my nord til I gloria
@Several ghost ...I hate that this one works.
"why dont you shut up"😭
This episode put so many rocks in my bag.
I loved this episode so much. With each of them they have a base character, a suggestion, of what they might play. And Brennan said "Nope I'm a Tulpa. Or maybe I am real and Vic is MY Tulpa."
He's from the woods... and that's JUST where we start!
We all know Brennan Lee Mulligan is a facet manifold of a higher-dimensional Egregore right?
I mean, look at that name.
Like a real human being would actually be named that.
@@FuzzyBunnyofInleI think he’s just Irish or has Irish ancestors
@@AshleyoftheSwiftspear-pb8cssame thing
If Dr. Gloria Stainord ISN'T a shadow monster then why did she feed Augbert's dad so many cookies to fatten him up and make him taste like oatmeal raisin? Answer me that!
I love the feeling of whiplash of how quick Augbert goes from deep spiritual conversation about how everything in our world is incredible, and then immediately starts talking crazy again.
We're just watching Brennan live-shuffle NPCs
"Pants are an illusion, and so is death."
VIP is slowly becoming the "can we break Vic" show and I love it.
Brennan's "Yes And everything is mythical and mysterious" clashed with Vic's "Yes and but it was actually just a regular normal thing and you're remembering it wrong" and once more Vic was victorious. Love that for them!!
This is why Vic will never be happy 😥
That is not a "yes and" it was a "no, but" which can work in improve but is harder to pull off.
Both things can be true, shadow monsters thrive in the gray spaces between that which is and that which we remember
Except it was Vic’s dad who got ete up by the big metal bird to Miami. Augbert was right.
@@LoganWH8 In the shows canon but as we've learned from stuff like The Bobby Hill Incident things happen a wee bit differently in the Deep Bluniverse :P
Don't you just hate it when a shadow monster eats your dad? Augbert does too!
mmmgh not again
i did not think DBI characters' eyes could get much smaller, but i absolutely HOWLED at Vic's face at 1:15
My favorite bit of this animation 👀 😶
"Why don't you shut up" is such a good line 😂
Even better than when he told Owen Smith to shut up
1:15 I think this is my favorite expression. Plus the choice not to animate the "big metal mouth" closing, a funny visual but also as a fellow animator I felt this in my soul.
I will ALWAYS take the easy way out if it's funny
“Then he got et up by a [2D CIRCLE].”
The rock falling through time getting smoother and smoother was so lovely. And then cut back to Brennan with his beard made of chips 😂
Chip!
"You know the reason your unhappy? Because it always just rocks."
Goes so hard for some reason
Bro went from insane man in the woods, to standing against the coming of the end times, to eccentric physicist, to dreamwalking messenger of the end times, to a metaphorical snowball of allegories and insecurities rolling down the upwards slope that is Vic’s ever shattering psyche.
The sad dejected "nope" breaks my heart. Augbert knows that he has only a few frail moments left before Vic can tell him the truth he's been running from. In one last act of impotent defiance that he knows will only buy him a second more of blissful ignorance, he begs Vehicular not to shatter the illusion that he has been living in. Why are they doing this to him? Why are they confronting him with the fact that he's known all along: his father has suffered a fate worse than death (by shadow monster,) he's moved to Florida.
"whyonchushuddup"
God the way you cut away to just the tiniest expressions always cracks me up XD
It perfectly encapsulates the imminent mental breakdown that Vic looks about to have on every wild interview.
Let Augbert and Vic have their own animated series, with occasional cameos from other VIP characters
I still like Brennan's idea for a show called "Bigger" where they just do improve of over the top character that just keep getting more wild.
Tommy Shriggly is Augbert's room-mate when he moves to the big city, presumably Miami
Denzel’s living in Augbert and Tommy’s closet after Vehicular kicked him out of the guest house
The best part of the whole bit is when you see the trust and belief in her face that "Maybe if she did learn to love the rock she would love herself" and once the word "Shadow Monster leaves his lips it's snaps to "I'm in a room with a crazy man. I need help."
Love the Shadow Monster going "Nomph!"
At 00:58 i thought "Ah admirable to put so much work into breathtaking shot just for comedy bit" but then the tragedy of Augbert tragic past unfolded and only then i fully understood the emotional set up that was building up throughout the whole video, truly amazing
I can't believe how accurate that father-eating shadow monster was
The face you gave Vic in response to Augbert saying that Dr. Gloria Stainord is a shadow monster is perhaps one of the funniest faces I have seen put to animation.
Me: "That was a great video. You should do animations!"
DBI: "I wouldn't know where to start."
I think it was rude for Vic to ask him about the shadow monster who ate his dad. He did invent physics after all, so he probably knows what he’s talking about. 😂
He got et up.
The one-two punch of 'Dr. Gloria Staynord is a shadow monster." with Vic's •_• face absolutely floored me.
You captured the essence of Vic that makes me feel so sorry for them in this show lol. This was excellent. Thank you!
This episode made me fully understand the power that Brennan wields with his improv skills as I genuinely forgot that it was Brennan playing a character at some point. Giving him a budget for special effects regularly would make him far too powerful.
I cannot put into words how much I adore Brennan- the entire Dropout cast, really. If I'm having a bad day, all it takes is watching one or two shorts (not even a full video!) to turn that feeling around. Drawfee/DBI making animatics is just the cherry on top of excellence ❤
How did Brennan's "crazy weirdo" character somehow perfectly express why I love geology?
Unhinged Brennan is a gift to this world
And the host Vic keeps giving us interviews that are each amazing gifts in their own right
Their chomp noises bring me so much inexplicable joy, and the way you animated them - especially Vic's - truly heightened the experience ✨
Agreed!
The merchant of my dreams!
“She ate my dad” has the same energy as “he stepped on my mom” and I love that
I'm amused by how all the past guests featured in these animations have had their own color palettes distinct from the ones usually used for their performers, as if to establish them as their own real characters within their interviews/episodes.
But then, Augbert is just straight up Brennan in an outfit. 😂
I want to say this interview was one of the most insane things on dropout but honestly with dropout it's just one of many 😅
in my opinion, game changer has the truly unhinged moments. this show is chill because they're doing very obvious character work, whereas some of the other stuff is too subtle and idk what's real T_T
A shadow monster plane ate his DAD@@Ramberta
The teary eyed "Why don't you shut up" while holding Vehiculars face was absolutely perfect
Even a madman can have nuggets of great wisdom.
Well done, Brennan. I hope you didn't die from heatstroke in that mass of fur.
That's what the cooling pads and gel were for! 😅
Every single moment in this episode was a left turn
What a trip this episode was. I'm also trying to decide how one would write the gobbling sound like a comic book sound effect. HAOUP
(holds rock) "this couldn't exist without a thousand thousand years of the most beautiful turning of things that need not have happened, but did" - Brennan "Augbert" Lee Mulligan
2:03 Augburt desperately holding onto delusion: “Why won’t you shut up”
The speed at which they go from zero to 100 then back to zero is unmatched...
except by DBI.
Calling someone a “shadow monster” feels like the greatest judgement you can place on their soul.
Genuinely, “the reason you’re unhappy in your life is because it’s always just rocks” has stuck with me in a pretty profound way ever since this episode came out and I’m very very happy you chose to include it in this.
this animation is gonna rock
the social media scroll to look for his dad is just so fast, the piano trill before Augbert begins speaking perfect english in full sentences. He does not know what is going on but it takes a lot more than "just" rocks to keep him distracted
I love that he also whipped out a legit description of centrifugal force, something I don't think anyone here, my self included, could do.
"Uh, centrifugal force is the force when you spin something really fast and it pushes outwards"
The camera crew trying to hold it together constantly thru this entire performance was the cherry on top.
The fact that Brennan just showed up with this energy and they decided then and there that this was going to be the finale is amazing
Vic's ny little eyes are the most powerful depiction of simultaneous fear and confusion I've ever seen.
Now animate the spworm. We all know you want to. I see lots of people nodding
The way Augbert holds the rock in front of his eye and drops it like it's his Cursed Technique
Seeing all these VIP animations is making me more and more excited for if DBI animates a Smartypants lecture
Reading this just made me sit up and tingle and say oh my God out loud. I have no idea what the emotion was but I really really really want this
@@DaraWilson All I know is, if it's Paul's presentation, it would feel really good
@@JumpTheVoid omg yes! It felt so satisfying to watch Paul get a chance to talk about that piano teacher who's ego has been stuck in his craw for years now 😭
You just nail Vehicular's facial animation every time.
It perfectly encapsulates the imminent mental breakdown that Vehicular looks about to have on every wild interview.
I love the subtle passing of the bit back and forth. Brennan declares his father was eaten. Vic proposes it was a metal bird that ate him. Brennan brings it home with the flight attendant speak.
Hearing Izzy gasp/laugh at "Cus she ate my dad," was the moment I truly lost it and had to pause to laugh so I didn't miss anything. Hahaha
Brennan switching from very deep and real to "she ate my dad" was so dang good
I really love the fact both Ally and Brennan went for revealing that their parent is dead in a simple sentence, “he stepped on my mom” and “because she ate my dad” have the same energy to me
Augbert's rock monologue was not what I expected to be my favorite part of this video but tbh that was a really lovely piece of animation! I DO love the endless number of coincidences that brought me to this rock and I do love myself!
Brennan is such a master of what i call "let down comedy". It's when you build up in intensity, drama, and emotion only to kneecap the feeling you built for the lols.
"why'ont chu shuddup" has to be me all-time favorite part
😂 That piano riff gets me every time.
the whole "if you can't love this rock, then you're never gonna love yourself" speech was impassioned, deeply impactful, and very well may change my life trajectory for the better, and only brennan lee goddamn mulligan can sandwich such a beautiful monologue between such lines as "i have physics!" and "dr. gloria staynord is a shadow monster." this is a truly magical animation perfectly fitting for such a magical moment, thank you for this masterpiece.
I love how every time you animate something from Very Important People Vic always looks scared
I’m still in awe of the twist from Augbert being this crazy prophet fighting shadow monsters to it turning out to be symbolism for Vic’s unhappiness with life and unresolved issues.
THIS CHANNEL IS A GEM, I love Make Some Noise, and especially Very Important People, and now there are animations of VIP, it feels like I'm dreaming !! Great animation, great expressions, I'll binge this whole channel 😂👏🏼
Aaa thank you so much! What a lovely message to wake up to!!!
One of my favorite Very important person
I find it insane that my favorite things, those being drawfee, dropout, and bug hunter/narcissist cookbook, are literally all animated by this one single human being.
You've got a good taste in favourite things!!!
Augbert just needs some lessons in positivity from Tommy Shriggle
One of my biggest fears is someone I'm arguing with starting their next sentence with 'the reason you're unhappy in your life'.
I feel like I could watch that whole episode animated
The subtitles make the animation so much better! "*physics noises* is hilarious
“Last physics sound”
As always the closed captioning is on point
"Because she ate my dad"
had me gasping
This is amazing. As always your animatics astound me but the beautiful transition of the rock traveling through time to Vic’s very small and intense face after a perfect beat of silence. And also the flight attendant being so scary and then normal and the tears in his eyes when he said “I saw him get ate” and the door swinging shut on “chomp” Thanks for making and sharing this animatic!
This is the best advertising Dropout could hope for.
That shot of the rock falling through space into water and getting eroded into being smooth was incredible
I love the parts of this that you edited together to tell the full story. It's beautiful
Very Important People is so surreal and niche and it is very quickly becoming on of my favorite series on Dropout
WHOA! That head turn at the start. It's so simple, yet so driven! I really like it. It really is just shapes and lines moving statically, with one line stretched. Masterful.
My dad? Et
My mom's face? Stepped on
Truly traumatic, so glad Vehicular Manslaughter is giving people a safe space to share what happened to them, and to help them get through it 🙏
I love the stifled laugh from someone on the crew after “Dr Gloria Stainord is a shadow monster.”
"If you can't love this rock, then you're never gonna love yourself!" - Rupaul
The best part _for me_ is that I don't have whatever channel *_ANY OF THIS_* is airing on, so I live all of these little moments through vignettes and animated segments made by the many incredible talented and probably handsome fans of their various serieseseses, so I NEVER have any context, never see a whole episode. I just live seeing strangeness and oddities consistently. It's like ceaseless "only the best bits" for me. Never a dull moment.
As much as the animation quality of these videos always delights and astounds me, I always make sure to turn on the captions because they KILL me. Thanks for another awesome vid DBI
Best line is her just going "augbert?" and he's already in denial and nothings been said yet
DeepBlueInk, I love how you ADD to these clips. The details of the rock coming to be? Chef’s kiss.
Such a fantastic animatic for an amazing scene. Just captured the vibes to a way physical flesh could not lol
That perfect fusion of deeply, unsettlingly profound, and batshit insanity.
