Hey all!
Josh Reuben takes on the herculean task of trying to out-lovecraftian-horror Brennan Lee Mulligan. This animation took a while to make because of scheduling/taking some time off at xmas, but ALSO because I wanted to animated a good chunk of this instead of cutting it down to one minute. So hopefully you enjoy this good good bit in most of it's full glory!

I've just realized, Brennan's character didn't survive the space laser story. His body got found by the crab.
Or the only way to come back to life was to become a crab.
Well yeah. Every marine biologist knows about how the hat wearing hermit crab uses the bodies of fishermen for shelter and protection.
He faced utter eldritch destruction and realized that the only way to live was to evolve into a crab.
Or his body, in some form or reality. Was *always*. The crab.

"I had to beg fear itself to put me back together! To allow me to fish again!" Was such a raw fucking line delivered so perfectly i kind of want to cry.
"O' course I'm quick to reform my corporeal body, I've got fish to catch"
TOTAL COMMITMENT.
And the absolute whiplash from that to "it's the CRAB!" makes it so much better.

First attacking Solid Snake, then having a rave. Crabs are taking a more active part in world events these days.
When he went "ziiiiip its the crab" I actually spit my water all over my computer screen
It made me go into a laugh/coughing fit!😂 rip computer screen.
The contrast from the desperation in "to allow me to fish agaiiiin" to "it's the crab" gets me every damn time
I laughed for minutes. I couldn’t stop!
The gutteral scream of shock afterwards as well.

@@solarprogeny6736 I didn't mean to disparage any ESL people with my initial comment if that is the perception. I was merely commenting on how @jademirror's initial comment could be hard to interpret because the english language is wildly inconsistent. Pronunciations vary, particularly when the words are of Greek or Latin origin. Especially when they are being garbled into pseudo-gibberish drunken sailor speak in an animated improv short about sailors comparing stories of their scars.

The Deep one was shown to bring people back, and Mister Mayonnaise had a gun. Makes sense your fear is in the right place.

Weirdly, that was exactly how it was in the actual bit 😂
Brennan's "getting my legs stuck back on by a witch" would've been a great way to cap off this prompt after a bit of back-and-forth of maybe some wacky duels with swordfish or a run-in with a shark, but I think we can all appreciate him dropping it *first thing* to take us from 0 to 100 immediately so that we can get straight into unraveling the secrets of the universe.
In the 1970s, USSR satellites were known to shoot laser beams from space at random fishermen to prevent them from discovering the crabs with big hats fighting ring.
Why don't they teach us about this in school?! 😤

I don’t know which part to compliment the most. Sam in his little rain hat and coat, Brennans little sailor suit and losing his legs, the water and rain animations, Poseidon, the rocket, the callbacks to past monsters, THAT BOAT MAN. Truly a joy to watch, Blue!
The animations are so smooth and the way you capture Brennan, Josh, and Sam’s energies was so delightful.

I love how they just keep trying to outlie the other and it SO Blatant and hilarious....😅
it's the transition from believable lie to extremely chaotic insane lie that gets me.
And in the end it wasn’t a lie because he was the crab.
It's all over when Brennen pivots to "I was shot by a laser from space..."
...so "outlie" is actually already an English word that means an entirely different thing. 😅
@@AdamFunk Luckily for us, in English it is perfectly okay for a single word to have multiple, unrelated definitions so there is no issue with outlie getting a new meaning.
1:12 the delivery of the "I f*ckin' die" gets me every time for some reason 😂 he sounds so disappointed in the circumstances of that particular death
Dying is not even the culmination of the story - it's just a plot point to hit so that we can get to the *really* cool shit: Posighmee blowing air into the corpse like a roadkill balloon.
I think this is the only time I've ever heard Brennan struggle to contain his laughter as he SLOWLY begins to lose his composure trying to out-crazy Josh in this bit.
And I LIVE for it.

Brennan straight up got orbital laser-ed by sputnik just because he wanted to catch some fish and chips
Nothing I have ever witnessed or done could have possibly prepared me for “Zzzzziip. It’s the crab!”
I watched the episode when it first came out, I SAW IT, but I can't for the life of me place why Josh is so out of breath at the start of this bit. It makes it so much funnier because his fisherman sounds so desperate.
Yknow, the “alright, fuck it” has the energy of someone that went from, “okay I’m at the bar I’m gonna use hyperbole for a few of my scars just to seem a bit cooler than it was”, to “okay I’m just gonna make some bullshit up then, here we go!”
I love that FRANTIC clarification that it was a Soviet space laser... Man knew he'd dug himself into a grave and had to get out FAST

Crab-With-A-Big-Hat has got to be one of my favorite Eldritch Horrors.

Would have been great if when Brennan broke character saying "Poseimee?!" his mustache fell off and it just looked like Brennan and he puts it back on before he starts talking again.
There is nothing funnier than whatever outfits you put the side characters in. Sam's little yellow Gordon's Fisherman cosplay was SUCH a delight!
The crab in a hat is so much better than I could have imagined, thank you for this gift.

it's a little detail but I just really like the way you animated raindrops bouncing off stuff, so satisfying

A sincere thank you from me for these videos. The skits are hilarious by themselves, but the animations elevate them to even greater comedy. Actually makes me cry with how funny these are.

This is like that Monty Python "Four Yorkshiremen" skit, where instead of gradually turning the bit from reasonable to absurd, they just slam the gas, take a hard-right into full absurdity on riff #2, and let the bit jack-knife and careen down an embankment.
I like how only the first two were scars, the others were obituaries

I think it's a sign of the incredible quality and love that DBI puts into his animations that every time theres an amazing moment on Dropout or Drawfee my first thought is "Deepblueink is going to absolutely crush that animation."
I cannot put into words the feelings of elation I experience seeing the crab somehow perfectly portray Brennans delivery. I could watch that on repeat for a solid half hour.

The combination of Josh's exclamations proceeding and following the crab reveal as well as Brennan's voice for the crab had me on the verge of throwing up from laughter. I'm still recovering
I love the fact that Brennan immediately set the bar astronomically high, so they had to just go to insane nonsense to one-up each other lmao.

I remember watching this and praying it gets animated. My prayers have been heard.
To be clear, for whoever made the captions, I think Brennan meant the "Bering Sea" was where he was blown up by a laser from space. That's what they call the part between Alaska and Russia. Hence, a USSR satellite during the 70's did the dirty deed under Poseimeemioh's direction.
He seemed to think that Brennan would just play Quint, and there would be a slight escalation. Instead, Brennan went for the kill shot on the first story.
This has forever changed my pronunciation of Poseidon

I love how even as a grizzled old fisherman, Brennan Lee Mulligan is still wearing his blue and red checked shirt. And the black and red animation as his legs are sliced through by the rigging is very striking and incredibly effective!
